The French can make excellent films - 36 is an example of just how good a French flick can be. But Helas Pour Moi is not up there. In fact, I would rate as one of the all time bad movies ever. Not even Gerard Depardieu can save this turkey.

I'm a huge fan of Gerard Depardieu and will watch (almost) anything he's in. But this one........it was truly awful. I watched for half an hour hoping I would begin to understand what was going on but I didn't have a clue so turned it off. It

comprised a series of disjointed scenes with no relation to each other and no story line. Perhaps it was in there somewhere but it eluded me and I could wait no longer.

Alas poor me, indeed. A film that is probably original and rewarding for fans of Jean Luc-Godard, but pretentious and confusing for the rest of us.

One story, seen from several angles and revealing more than one truth. It's an interesting concept, ruined, for me, by the avant garde delivery. Oddly, it's this delivery that has aged the film, with it feeling more like an out-of-date stage play than a fresh take on film making. But then I guess the film is over 10 years old now, so perhaps that's a little unfair.

I enjoyed the oddness of the film, for a while, but the intentionally disjointed and poetic dialogue sounded silly to me and I didn't understand the symbolism (if, indeed, that's what it was). I was glad when it ended.
