Rated - 0 starsThe stink of death

zorilla [Highly rated reviewer] , 14/01/2008

I've lost count of the number of reasons I hate this film. In no particular order...

I hate the fake scratchiness on what is obviously a digital print

I hate that all the women are either in hot pants or sking tight jeans

I hate that all the dialog is mannered to the point of being totally bogus

I hate that a 20 something girl would call a radio station and request Dave Dee, Dozy Beaky, Mick and Tich record

I hate even though she has to expalin to everybody who Dave Dee, Dozy Beaky, Mick and Tich, she still manages to refer to them as Dave Dee, Dozy Beaky, Mitch and Tich.

I hate that Tarantino obviously hates women

I hate the fake scar on Kurt Russell's face

I hate that I wasted a couple of hours of my life on this tosh

I like that I've gotten a few degrees of hate off my chest and can now get on with my life, because unlike Tarantino I do have one.

Rated - 5 starsGrindhouse

Rumbo from Leeds [Highly rated reviewer] , 11/04/2007

Before anyone shouts 'it isnt released yet' I saw the film last week while i was in the States o.k!!?!!. Grindhouse is two individual films helmed separately by each director. The two films are fused together by fake movie trailers. Very Q.T!

Tarantino's film, 'Death Proof,' is a rip-roaring, gut wrenching slasher flick where the killer (Kurt Russell) pursues his victims with a car rather than a knife, while Rodriguez's film explores an alien world eerily familiar to ours, In which a small-town sheriffs' department has to deal with an outbreak of murderous, infected people happily called 'sickos.' That was the synopsis now for the review - both films are sick! I mean gore, guts, blood kind of sick. If thats not your cup of earl grey then it doesnt matter how cool quick and, well, cool the films are you aint guna like em. Pick a good cinema with big seats for this one, 3.5 hours and thats just the running time! I loved it & I am sure anyone who is a fan of the directors will do too.

Rated - 5 starsCar...ayzeee in a really good way

PaulaWestwood from Ashton-Under-Lyne [Highly rated reviewer] , 22/09/2007

Wow I got a kick out of this film. Ok the bodywork of the cars is not the only twisted thing in this, Tarantino definately has his own way of making and delivering movies, but this had me gripped from the opening titles, and I really mean that. It just has the feeling he has made that extra effort and class to make it more exciting and interesting for the viewer. and feels like rather than just being another film, it's a work of directors art that has more atmosphere than 5 inhabitable planets. A lot of people have reviewed this saying this was too stretched from the original 60 minutes previously released, for me, this could have gone on longer (not to say the ending wasn't worth the wait anyway). This is not a run of the mill film, and I would definately recommend giving this a go.

Rated - 2 starsWatchable but disappointing

DJM666 from Walsall , 16/09/2007

Death Proof is good at times but probably the weakest movie Quentin Tarantino has ever done. It generally has the right look and feel of the old Grindhouse movies, the car crash half-way through the movie is very good and the last 20-minutes or so (the car chases) are good also, but it is quite dull otherwise. It is a dialogue-heavy movie (with most of the dialogue adding very little to the movie) and long-winded, and 20-minutes of good entertainment is not enough in a 110-minute movie (especially if the other 90-minutes is worthless and irrelevant talking)!

On the acting side of things most of the performances in the film are fine, but only Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson and Mary Elizabeth Winstead really stand out - Kurt Russell in particular is very good as Stuntman Mike (if under-used and leaving you wanting to see more of him), while Rosario Dawson is as likeable as ever and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is good but her character is eventually completely forgotten about.

Planet Terror is a much better movie and much more fun. A full Grindhouse release (Planet Terror, Death Proof and the 4 trailers) would have really benefited the movie more rather than Death Proof being released on its own.

If you enjoy listening to lots of irritating women talk for very long periods of time, then this is the movie for you!
