In an era when one action blockbuster is very much like another, the first National Treasure was a refreshing digression from the norm. An oddball mix of Indiana Jones, The Da Vinci Code, and... read more »

Rated - 2 starsThe gold appears to be fake...

Meako Meako [Highly rated reviewer] , 29/01/2008

The first National Treasure film was a reasonably fun sub-Indiana Jones romp. It far outshone the lacklustre efforts of the Tomb Raider flicks, and had a decent set of puzzles and clues which strung together well. Sadly, this second outing is none of the above! The plot seems more like an excuse for the crew to go on holiday at some nice locations in Europe and US, rather than a logical progression on the trail to find the lost city of gold. Right from the offset the film shows contempt for the intelligence of the audience by having a clue refer to something which wasn't actually in existence until 10 years later. That is only the start of the gaping plot-holes in the film....it gets worse, but let's not dwell. Now I could accept a weak plot in a work of fantasy fiction if the remaining aspects were fun to watch, but sadly only Cage seems to still be channelling the energy of the first film. The rest of the cast are terribly wooden, including Helen Mirren (who can't seem to decide on which accent she should use from one scene to the next). Ed Harris seems to have phoned in his part, and his character goes through a bizarre personality change towards the end of the film which makes no sense at all. Sadly they have recently announced a third film is in the planning stages. This second time around was more than enough for me....I'll be skipping any future entries in the franchise!

Rated - 1 starsRubbish

A customer from Glasgow , 14/03/2008

Extremely disapointing. Not having seen the first one, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it is a waste of money. The one star comes from a vaguely interesting opening, but the rest of the film is dull, unimaginative and boring. The story story is that apparently Nicholas Cage's great great granddaddy was a conspirator in the plot to asainate Lincoln. In order to prove his innocence, they have to find a city of gold, which, surprisingly enough, they do. However, the film is entirely realistic. Not only is there an ancient city made entirely of gold, the gang manage to get into Buckingham Palce with whisky and hi-tech hacking gear, then chase around outside shooting at each other, while the police twiddle their thumbs, and of course sneak into the presidents office. However, possibly the best bit has to be when the money-grabbing baddie 'Mitch,' suddenly decides he's not in any way wanting money, fame and power which he's been mercilessly chasing the whole movie any more, he much rather die saving the 'goodies' so as to be remebered for discovering the city, which he didn't.

All in all, there have beenmore interesting pringles adverts.

Rated - 4 starsAnother smash for Nic Cage

weeshug100281 from Girvan [Highly rated reviewer] , 10/03/2008

Don't be put off buy this being a Disney film, it is just as good as any of the Indiana Jones films, It starts with the assasination of Lincoln, then in the present the Great Grand Father of Ben Gates(Nic Cage) is named as one of the men behind the conspiracy by Ed Harris. Which in turn sets it up a rip roaring adventure to prove that he was framed by the actual men behind the conspiracy in the first place.

Along the way the team look for clues at Buckingham Palace, the President office in the White House, and the end up kinaping the President at a garden party to ask how they can get their hand on the missing clue. With a good finale at Mount Rushmore, this film is a must see if you like the genre. Enjoy.
