Brief synopsis of Saw 4

Upon the news of Detective Kerry's murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm and Agent Perez, arrive in the terrified community to assist the veteran Detective Hoffman in sifting through Jigsaw's latest grizzly remains and piecing together the puzzle. However, when SWAT Commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demented traps and save an old friend or face the deadly consequences.

Rated - 5 starsSaw still has all its teeth....

Despite the demise of Jigsaw, there are still pieces missing for our detectives to puzzle over, and Rigg (Lyriq Bent) in particular has to face his worst nightmares to try and solve the latest slayings, this time the particular brand of dispatching people has been arranged to involve him directly. Despite being the 4th outing, and with what could potentially have been the knock out punch when Jigsaw passed away in Saw III, this is still intelligent well put together horror, no simple slasher bloodfest here, just a well crafted excellent film in a series that has not dulled or worn with time. I'm no real horror fan, but for my money you can keep these coming, would I say see saw.. you bet I would !

Rated - 1 starsMindnumbingly awful

Absolute codswallop...Not scary, not particularly gory and a plot of utter nonsense to boot..What more can I say it's God Damn awful!

In retrospect only Saw the original was any good,in fact it was very good.

The subsequent sequels were all vastly inferior but nothing to match the putrefied stinking nonsense that is SawIV..

Ye I have forewarned thee.

Another fantastic saw film. i was worried that it cam out a bit soon after the last one, and surely it would run dry a little by now, but i was so wrong!

saw 4 is just as clever, well written, fantastically directed and genious as the rest. the film grabs you from the start and keeps your attention with beautiful gore scenes and the twists and turns keeps coming.

if you loved the other saw films you'll love this to, its definatly a must see.

and of course it ends very openly, i spy a saw 5 on the horizon!!

I admit to watching Saw 4 out of a perverse sense of loyalty to this film brand. After the awful third instalment of the Saw films I thought the brand was finally on its last legs. In addition, with Jigsaw dead I couldn’t see how it was possible for the plot to continue forward and still remain plausible (or at least as plausible as horror movies ever get). Well the directors have managed it. The film is as inventive, gory, and thrilling, as the first two films. The film keeps you trying to figure out who has taken the place of Jigsaw, gives you some history as to how Jigsaw started his warped crusade, and continues to rack up the body count in its usual mechanically gruesome fashion. I would have given the film 4 stars were it not for the fact that no matter how good the film is, and I did enjoy it, it is the fourth in the series and you therefore have a good idea of what to expect. This lessens the visceral impact of it compared to when I saw the first film back when it was shiny and new.

Rated - 4 starsNo country for old men

zombieboy from York , 02/07/2008

Fantastic, intelligent and at times pretty violent film by the Coen brothers. Top acting performances from all the leading men who all bizarrely seem to know exactly what each other's thinking despite the fact that most of the excellently written dialogue is seemingly kryptically coded. Loved Javier Bardem the complete pyschopathic nutter in the film... he was so cold and charasmatic. Also some really beautiful backdrops and landscapes. Well written, well directed, brilliant cinematography and excellent acting but an odd ending leaves you with no closure whatsoever... still fab!
