Brief synopsis of Sleuth

This savvy remake promises just as many twists and pitch-perfect performances as the 1972 film. Since the original SLEUTH still shocks, some might question director Kenneth Branagh's desire to remake the classic, but Michael Caine doesn't reprise his role from the first film. Instead, he stars as the betrayed husband (first played by Lawrence Olivier), while Jude Law plays Caine's original role of the rogue who stole his wife away.

As the other viewer pointed out the plots are all in place but sadly it drifted into rubbish.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the other reviews. Although short, the film literally had me captivated from the first scene. Both Caine and Law put forward amazing performances, but I have to say that the way Law portrayed the character(s) was clever beyond belief. His conduct of phrases and vocabulary is out of this world, as previously seen in Closer. Anyone who likes a slightly out of the mainstream, arty type of film, but intelligent and witty at the same time will be in for a treat. Dont bother if you want the bulk standard run of the mill, blockbuster type of film.

I saw this movie on a date and it was a horrendously bad choice! The acting is superb as is to be expected with Caine and Law but the story line is sheer rubbish. The only good part was when it ended although this was abrupt and seems to be halfway through the movie with no conclusions leaving the viewer wondering what on earth it was all about! All in all, an awful film and 2 hours of my life ill never get back!

Michael Caine is a legend. Like him or not, Jude Law is a good actor. So you would quite rightly presume this to be an interesting and entertaining film. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. I sat through a painful hour of this rubbish before i turned it off. If you decide to make up your own mind, then you should prepare for one of the worst films ever.

Watch the original. One of my favourite movies, a real jem. I looked forward to this and it fails. The original is an absolute classic and this in no way compares. Don't be put off by the age of the first showing I can't praise it enough get it! Branagh seems to be an idiot.

It's good to see that Michael Caine now chooses to take only excellent parts in excellent films.

Watch this one with interest.
