Brief synopsis of Thrillville: Off the Rails

Thrillville: Off the Rails ramps up the family-friendly mix of strategy/management gaming that made 2006's original Thrillville such a success. Off The Rails is aptly-titled as it enables the player to come up with the most outlandish rollercoasters ever, as well as new ways to talk to park guests and a new selection of carnival attractions.

Everything about the park you build affects your guests' opinions and enjoyment. If the park is dirty and the rides are in poor shape, the guests are not going to be happy. If there are no food or drinks stalls, bathrooms or other essentials, the guests are bound to leave quickly. When you talk to a guest, a window will show their likes, dislikes and needs. These chats with guests will reveal great clues about what you need to do to make them happier. The smoother park operators can even flirt with the opposite sex!

A new, light-hearted story ties together more than 100 missions, complete with 34 playable multiplayer theme-park games. The in-depth conversations both advance the plot and suggest better ways to manage the park. But not every guest is to be trusted. Lurking within Thrillville: Off the Rails is a sinister presence determined to undermine all your good work. The more folks you befriend as park operator, the closer you'll get to discovering who has an agenda.

Rated - 5 starsAbsolutely worth while

A customer from Lincoln , 03/06/2008

I thought that this game was great. The adults and kids love it with all the other mini - games like 'What's your strength' and 'Bumper Cars' are just great for the family to play.

This is the best game EVER!! I'm going to buy it soon as i just can't get off it. The graphics are cool and training the staff is great fun!!

Rated - 2 starsAlmost Theme Park

A customer from Nottingham , 03/07/2008

I thought i'd give this a go because i used to love the theme park type sim games on Amiga and then PC. Sadly i wasn't too keen on this one. To be fair i didnt give it much of a chance but found i immediately didnt like the controls. I think sim games belong on a PC where you can use a keyboard and mouse. However perhaps people new to sim games might like trying this out. I would highly recommend renting it before deciding to buy it just in case you dont get on with the controls. It was very much geared at kids so maybe the younger generation might find it more appealing.

Rated - 2 starsNot a patch on Rollercoaster Tycoon, Park is pre-made, Pointless Game.

A customer from Basingstoke , 05/09/2008

Well, it was ok, for about 5 minutes. Glad I didn't go out and buy it.

You start of with a 'pre made park'. Where's the fun in that? You can build additional rides (if you can find the spare land to build em). Quite honestly you end up spending ages trapsing around looking for a bit of space to build a ride.

It's really not a patch on the other theme park tycoons. Really it's not.

Try it, you'll see.

Rated - 2 starsNot quite what I expected

CupcakeJayne from New Milton , 06/02/2009

I was expecting to have a lot of fun with this game at the same time as being able to teach my son how to use it. In fact, my son got bored within minutes as it's too complex for a young child to play and I just couldn't be bothered to learn how to use it. Probably a good game if you have the time for it as it's one that you'll need to spend long amounts of time on to get anywhere in the game.
