Brief synopsis of skate

skate is the closest thing to skateboarding without actually putting your feet on a board. With innovative controls that take advantage of the dual analog sticks, the power of the next gen hardware, and the ability to sculpt tricks that define your own style, skate delivers an authentic boarding mecca like no other videogame. Individual style combined with physics-driven animations promise that no two tricks will ever be the same. And there's plenty of room to pull off those tricks - San Vanelona challenges you to explore, find, and own the best spots. You can even capture footage to create and show off your style with friends across the world - because without footage, it's fiction. Get ready for all the fun, creativity and culture of skateboarding without the hours of practice, broken bones, and hospital visits.

Rated - 0 starsSkate - Not what I was exspecting

I got a demo of this game and seemed really good, but not when I rented it. The controls are really hard, and it would be very hard to do any cool tricks. Tony Hawks is unrealistic, but this is too realistic. I could do better myself on a skate board!!

Although if you are interested in Skating, this might be your thing.

I've only given it 3 stars as I've only played the free download of this from the PS Store, & i'm sure the full game will have much more to it...

But first impressions are good, the use of analog stick to control the skater & board is initally quite intuative.

However when i'd settle into the ryhthm, i found my thumbs going for some old skool tony hawk buttons!

As the demo is quite limited i don't want to comment too much but one thing i found annoying on previous skate games, was the reload time after falling off was too long. SKATE doesn't suffer from this too bad.

well worth a rent to compare against other tittles in this genre before buying...

Rated - 4 starsShoves Tony Off His Board

Ingenious. That's what this game is. Simple yet hard to master controls make SKATE one of the best games on the PS3. Instead of button bashing like on Tony Hawk's, EA decided to change skateboarding games by using the analogue sticks instead. It works a charm. (On a PS3): The right analogue stick controls the board, left stick for the skater's body, circle button to lift board away from skater's feet, and L2 and R2 buttons to grab the left or right side of the board. And you can forget all that 'Jackass' daredevil rubbish that you find in Tony Hawk's games, this is pure skateboarding.

Staying on the board is hard, but a good tutorial at the beginning shows the basics (like how to Pop Shove It, Ollie, get some air, and grind). As one progresses through the game, they are taught more and more as they become more famous thus meeting more experinced skaters to teach them new tricks and skills.

The story mode is great with the player being able to (of course) create a skater at the beginning (they can be editited later via shops as the player aquires money and fame). The story line is intreguing and long as serves as a large portion of the game.

Online is awesome. Being able to upload videos and images for others to rate and comment on really gives the online mode a good community feel. One can create challenges and games, such as races; or just go into one big area and 'Free Skate' with others.

Graphics, motion, sound, and the lot are all great too with the game truly showing off the power of next-gen. Ragdoll physics are fun to watch when one falls off thier board and a screen pops up to show what bones you've broken, sprained, or fractured - just to make you cringe.

All in all, an excellent game. Definitely the most realistic skateboarding game to date, really rivals classics like Tony Hawk's 3.

The trick with this game is to give it time. It does take a while to get the hang of the controls, they can be difficult at first... to be honest REALLY frustrating but once you get the hang of it, the game becomes fantastic. There is no button bashing, or mega super flips down a ten mile set of stairs. This game is about style and control, real skateboarding! and the replayability of the game is great, it just does not get old trying to do certain tricks, beating the pros at a game of skate all that jazz!
