Brief synopsis of TimeShift

Marked by an epic, time-traveling narrative and cutting edge in-game physics, TimeShift introduces a never-before-seen approach in the genre by challenging players to manipulate time to bring down a totalitarian regime.

Assume the role of renowned and recently retired test pilot Colonel Michael Swift, who is recovering from the tragic loss of his daughter. Desperate for an escape from his misery, Swift accepts a unique offer from the US Government to test an experimental set of time-control devices and become the world's first "chrononaut." During the tests, he inadvertently alters time and returns to a present changed beyond recognition. The democracy he left has become a fascist nightmare and his knowledge of the events that led to this alternate present has made him an enemy of the state. Armed with the time-shifting Quantum Suit, Swift is now on the run, on a perilous mission to fix the past, present and future.

After playing the demo of this game I can tell you that this game is going to rock. Only a few months ago this game was literaly taken back to the drawing board and they have managed to completley save this game. True without the great new time controll feature it would fall into your general FPS catogory... but it has the time controll so it dosen't. In the game you can stop time, slow time to a crawl or reverse it. This adds many layers to combat making no two encounters the same. It also brings a puzzle element into the game but nothing to taxing, just enough to extend its uses beyond the fray of combat. Now it all may sound a bit easy as you can just stop time and shoot every one before they even realise you are there but the game makes up for this by limiting the time you can use these features for and the enimies can lay down some extremly impressive firepower. The A.I isn't to bad but could use a bit of polish. The environment is highly detailed and fully destructible making for some hugley chaotic battles. So all in all a fine game that with a bit of polish could be made truely great.

If your looking for your usual 1st person shooter, with little you haven't seen before - get this. Good graphics, average enemy AI, boring objectives and a sotry that makes no sense, coupled with your ability to stop, forward and rewind time (doesn't work as well as you would hope)...but hey, your looking for just a fun blast right? If your looking for something more intelligent, head Halo's way. 6/10 !!

I was slow to like this game at first, it just seemed like a pointless shooter and slow moving story line, but once I began to move round Alpha district and get a feel for the game I was hooked, the story line was intriguing and it is only a shame the ending was a bit lame, they often are, there seems to be some much build up and then nothing, but all the action and game play was definately there in Time Shift - the dynamics of the gameplay and graphics seemed quite close to half life 2 - but I'm not fussed about that. All in all I really liked this game, it took 3 days to complete, and on that account I'm so glad I rented as oposed to buying - waiting now for timeshift 2!

Played through it for a couple of hours, couldn't be bothered to finish it. It's just run, pause time, get behind the guy while he's frozen, shoot, move on to bad guy number 2. It's a bog-standard shooter in most respects, tweaked slightly by the time control. You'll love the first few levels, just because you can freeze time, stick a grenade to a guy, and step back, but it quickly becomes old when you realise that's all the game has going for it. Graphics are average at best (apart from the cinematics - very good graphics), storyline was hard to follow, and combat was a bit too easy. On top of that, if you get close to npcs you'll quickly realise that they're all exactly the same, just wearing slightly different clothing. Definitely not worth buying, but rent it if you don't bore easily
