Brief synopsis of The Golden Compass

Immerse yourself in the magical world of The Golden Compass, the new blockbuster film from the studio behind The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is a world where witches fly through frozen skies, giant armoured bears fight to defend their kingdom and where sinister Gobblers kidnap children and carry them to a frozen wasteland. And it is a world of intense danger and amazing adventure for the rebellious Lyra Belacqua...

Rated - 1 starFun...for five minutes

Having watched and enjoyed the movie I rented this game in the hope that it might provide the same action and entertainment as its big screen counterpart. Unfortunately I think this title would fail to even satisfy the movies most die-hard fans.

The game play is limited, swatting baddies with your wii stick and jumping over obstacles seems to be the main action point..rather reminiscent of a 1988 platformer..except 3D. Added to this, the constant jibber jabber of both your spirit daemon and your own character (Lyra) gets really annoying.

For the first 5 minutes I have to admit that it was quite fun roaming around as a polar bear and clobbering baddies, but this soon loses its appeal. Overall rating: 1/5 (for die hard fans maybe 3/5)

My three girls enjoyed this despite not seeing the movie. It is more for the older ones ie age 12, my youngest girl (7) found it quite difficult to do the different tasks.
