Brief synopsis of Resident Evil - The Umbrella Chronicles

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a brand new game in the Resident Evil franchise, with familiar locales from the entire series. This action-shooter hybrid reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as new never-before-seen locations, such as Umbrella's stronghold.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles combines first-person, light-gun style combat with interactive pathways, multiple weapons and new enemies to create an entirely new Resident Evil experience that could only be delivered on the Wii. Using the Wii Remote as a gun, players can experience breathtaking combat against a horde of zombies and various creatures in dynamic first-person perspective.

I'm a huge zombie fan. Since the 70's, anything zombie i've enjoyed (and sometimes endured) and a large zombie dvd collection takes pride of place in my living room...

imagine my delight when a couple of decades later i stumbled across 'house of the dead'!! All my teenage dreams come true! but lets face it... it wasn't graphically inspired, the plot was a terrible mess and the voice acting was... well, i don't think there's a suitable word to describe just how awful that aspect of the game was. BUT, every Saturday morning i ran down to the pier and pumped my coins into the machine and unleashed all manner of fury upon the the zombie hordes (normally using both guns for myself!).

And then came along the resident evil series. Dark and brooding, with some genuinely terrifying moments (in amongst some more terrible voice acting). The pinnacle of this series to me was resident evil 4. Even on the gamecube it looked amazing. I spent so many hours perfecting head shots, that my girlfriend began to mock me with lines from the game, like 'what are you buying?' and 'i've got some good things for sale stranger!', but i ignored her and carried on meting out zombie justice...

And then I bought a Wii... a few months later I purchased 'house of the dead 2&3'. finally i could get my only too eager son to join me in some zombie bashing, and then.... 'the umbrella chronicles' came out. I ignored the bad reviews and shelled out £30... but when i played it a huge wave of bloody disappointment cascaded all over me. It looks great and there are so many good things going for it, but it lacks one huge zombie ingredient... FUN...

I can honestly say that in all my years of zombie fanaticism, this is the most lack-lustre episode in the zombie cannon. Each level is repetitive and sluggish and the end bosses way too difficult to off. I just felt like i had no control over anything, so unfortunately it's back to 'house of the dead' for me. For all its faults the one thing it has plenty of is gory fun... I wanted to like it soo much, but 'the umbrella chronicles' needs to be re-re-animated before i go near it again.

Sorry, I cannot understand the good reviews for this game, it was boring, linear and just rubbish. Theres no real drama, the dialogue is typically crap, and the game is not scary or challenging, and even if you do die, you dont really care. Not worth the effort I'm afraid and certainly a bad reflection on the franchise

Rated - 1 starSubstandard Rail-Shooter

I like rail-shooters, and I like Resident Evil, but this is just bad.

Really unsatisfying gameplay, weapons, incredibly tedious, fiddly, time-consuming and totally unenjoyable boss-fights - apart from the graphics, it's just a badly designed and implemented game.

Ghost Squad and House Of The Dead show how to make a rail-shooter on the Wii that is actually fun to play, this is a case of nice-graphics zero-fun.

big fan of the series and didn't mind its a on-rails shooter but its very difficult without a good 2nd player. Even on easy its very hard, lack of 1st aid sprays, conserving ammo is hard as you can only dodge if the game lets you and some of the bosses are very cheap
