Brief synopsis of The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles

Unfortunately this title is currently unavailable for rental. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Shivering Isles features more than 30 hours of new gameplay and allows you to explore an entirely new plane of Oblivion the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. Shivering Isles adds to the existing world of Oblivion so you can continue playing with your existing save game/character, or create an all new character just to explore the new content.

Within the Realm of Sheogorath, players can explore the two extreme sides of the gods madness the sublimely creative and the completely psychotic. Something is happening to the Shivering Isles and Sheogorath himself looks to you to be his champion and defend his realm and its inhabitants from destruction. Do you have the strength to survive his trials, tame a realm fraught with paranoia and despair, and wear the mantle of a God?

When you first enter the Shivering Isles (after following a journal entry to Niben Bay), you will feel justified in investing in it.

What you see thrills all the senses - atmospheric colours of pink and green, giant plants, strange and fierce new creatures, and a huge new map to explore.

The Shivering Isles is an expansion like no other. While Knights of the Nine offered a few new areas that were carefully placed amongst existing mainland ones (often underwater) and gave players a new questline to follow, the Shivering Isles is so much more than just an add-on.

It really is Oblivion 1.5, with an entirely new realm to explore, and not just a main questline, but dozens of optional side-quests, and new items and customisable options.

I won't spoil the storyline at all, just let it be said that the journey you take will be more deadly and more amusing than any that were experienced in the original.

As usual with Oblivion, there is a huge amount of dialogue, brilliantly voice-acted, and some truly unique and memorable characters, some story-related, and some living out their daily lives, with or without your interference/interest. The new creatures are a welcome change from what was found before, and of course there are many new items and alchemy ingredients to tinker around with.

Once you enter the Shivering Isles, you will find it hard to turn back to Niben Bay and enter the old world that you previously frequented, for this new realm is indeed a wonder to behold, and has many new locations to discover.

All of the original features that were so useful remain, so fast-travelling, which was always indispensible, remains just as vital; as does the genre-leading journal system, which keeps you abrest of the very many quests that can be active at any one time.

Rush through the Shivering Isles, avoiding any side-quests and you can still lose a good 15-hours of your life; but treat it with the respect it deserves, let it draw you in and engage with its sub-quests then who knows?

As if any excuse were needed to spend any longer with the best game released on any system past or present - spend time in the Shivering Isles, and don't mind the Gatekeeper, he won't bite...
