Rated - 1 starsThe worst of 2007?

DJM666 from Walsall [Highly rated reviewer] , 13/11/2007

Bug is worthless and probably the worst film I have seen in 2007. The last 15-minute are pretty good and quite interesting, the acting is fine and the DIY dentistry stands out, but the film is just so very slow and very dull for most of 100-minute runtime, with a lack of interesting characters, an interesting situation or any sense of atmosphere. The seemingly low budget doesn’t help the film either - with a small cast, limited locations and no effects.

I understand the movie the director was trying to make (showing the two main characters losing more and more of their mind as the film progresses, until the end where they have completely lost it) but it was just so badly put together that it was a mess in the end without much in the way of positives.

Rated - 5 starsFriedkin vs Cronenberg

Andy Starke from SW UK , 11/11/2007

A stunning return to form from Friedkin. Bug is a study of power, manipulation, control conspiracy and paranoia. Brilliant lead performances and a fantastic use of tin foil. Now Cronenberg is making thrillers the hole he left is filled admirably by Friedkin. It's stage play origins are obvious but the dialogue is honed to perfection and absolutely riveting.

This is much more The Fly than French Connection! A must see for fans of cinematic freak outs!

This film. Don't know what 2 say. It has good parts which made the film interesting but there's bad parts which was the plot and storyline which I didn't understand what the hell is going. The film went loose in the end which is a shame. Don't get me wrong, the film isn't bad but is confusing and there are scenes that will shock u. So if u wanna watch it then do but if u don't then stay clear.........

Rated - 5 starsOutstanding

It seems that most people who have watched this film did so expecting a totally different one and thus came away feeling cheated.I found out about it online and knew what to expect and loved it.Its very dark, depressing, paranoid and often painful to watch, but sometimes I like that kind of film. The acting is amazing, particularly Ashley Judd, who usually plays pretty easy roles, certainly compared to the intense tour-de-force she displays here.

And it is a horror film, but a psychological horror, not an action horror which it seems the ad campaign tried to make it look like.
