Brief synopsis of WWE Smackdown! Vs. RAW 2008

Wrestling, it's just a bunch of big men in pants brushing and touching each other isn't it? Er, and slamming each other into tables. Well, however hardcore and manly it is, it still commands a lot of respect worldwide - the WWE Smackdown series has seen great success since its debut on the PlayStation all those years ago, and although we're no longer treated to the likes of Kurt Angle and The Rock, many love to sit and watch the drama unfold on the canvas and play the latest games.

There are closer ties with the WWE corporation itself for the game this time around, with writers for the TV shows creating various scripts for the game and wrestling stars getting involved with motion capture and representation of their personalities on screen. There is the introduction of 'fighting styles' too - a list of eight personalities and attributes, one of which is given to each wrestler to feel different from each other. Before there wasn't much call between playing as Rey Mysterio or Big Show - now the two feel like worlds apart.

Wrestlers designated as 'High Flyers' have a lot of speed and agility, allowing for your character to roll out of tight situations, use the ropes more effectively and to set a 'pin trap' which will reverse any pin made by your opponent. On the other hand, a 'Powerhouse' style will always rely on strength - if a wrestler's arms aren't damaged, they can always break out of a pin, allowing for some strategic play against different fighting styles. 'Powerhouses' also have a Rampage meter, which allows the fighter to become invincible and deal extra damage when full.

Oiled up men, tiny pants and oodles of body slamming. What's not to love?

As a bit of a wrestling fan , I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game as I've never played a wrestling game before and I thought it was great . Extremely easy to get into so no mad button bashing with very little payoff, the control method is quite simple and at times too easy as you do moves you didn't know you could :-)

All the big names are here and the main event option will keep you playing so that you can unlock more characters and stadiums to wrestle in , the difficulty setting is good so that it keeps you interested so it's not always to easy. Only annoying thing for me was the loading screens between every match and winning celebration and the commentary was not varied enough but that can be turned off. All in all a good game and plenty of entertainment worth a rental , I've just bought myself a copy :-D

Absolutely hopeless, would not recommend this game to anyone for the Wii because it is mind-numbingly repetetive and there is no GM mode? All in all, I thought this was total sh;t, PLEASE DON'T RENT THIS, YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

As a wrestling fan myself i could not wait till this game came out in the stores, i brought the game on the first day it came out and i put the game in my nintendo wii all excited and wasnt that impressed, yes it is quite cool that you punch and everything like that but it is quite hard controls to get weapons etc. So i was quite dissapointed with the game.

Thanks

Rated - 2 starsContols too simplistic

A great looking game, but the controls are very simplistic, for example the same move on the remote can produce several different actions on screen - leaving a feeling that you arent really controlling the action. Fine to rent, but would not buy
