Rated - 2 starsNot really worth the effort

My wife and I actually went to see 'The Golden Compass', but could not get in, so watched this instead.

Wish we had not bothered.

Christian did act it well, and looked totally different to any other role he has played before, but to be honest the storyline was quite weak, and drawn out. Some very wierd scenes, and not even a good twist at the end, more like a cop out.

Don't want to give too much away, but overall a very poor film.

I saw this on the plane and absolutely loved it. It's hard to recognize Christian Slater in this role, but he played it brilliantly. If you like something different and offbeat you will enjoy this. One of his best.

Rated - 1 starsSlater can't act and he proves it in this movie!

Slater does look different, But I never felt that he fully 'owned' the character: I guess playing a loser/loner might be a bit out of Slater's depth, but then again he never was a very good actor. I think this movie might have interested me with another actor in the lead role. (Off the top of my head:Sean Pean, perhaps)Let's face it, you have to be a good actor to make an audience watch a movie about a boring man's life and the turn of events that followed. It's a shame, because the story was good, but the movie was reliant on the main actor bringing Bob' s character to life, and that sadly, never happened! A very wooden, flat performance from Slater's part, and for that reason I would say:avoid this movie.

Three and a half stars - rounded up because I love Christian Slater as an actor, and he really makes this film worth watching. He plays unhinged well, but I've never seen him play this kind of role before, the role of the bullied victim, and it was a pleasant surprise. He looked and acted completely differently to what I am used to from him. Excellent work.

The storyline itself is an interesting one. It's a bit different, quirky and well conceived, however it might have benefitted from a couple more twists and turns along the way. I could see where it was going - the plotline was straightforward allowing the quirkiness to come out through the direction and characterisation, and there were definitely some nice touches - the fish being one of my favourite parts about the film. However in this kind of film I feel you should be completely in the dark as to how the ending will turn out, and something about this ending just didn't quite do it for me.

He WAS a quiet man, until one fateful day someone else beats him to his grisly plan...!!! This is a great film to watch, as it portrays a man on the edge, bullied and intimidated by all around him, so he seeks revenge on all around him by listening, taking advice, and talking to his goldfish, which is both scary and very funny at times... A very good phsycological thriller, if a bit warped...
