Brief synopsis of Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty

In 1931, Winston Churchill was hit by a taxi in New York. In the real world, he survived, and went on to rally the British people to fight the Nazi threat. But what if he hadn't? It's from this premise that Fall Of Liberty takes it's theme - without Churchill's leadership, Europe and the United Kingdom have fallen to Hitler's forces. By 1951, using crushing technical superiority, the United States is invaded and defeated by the Third Reich. With this setting, Fall Of Liberty will be an FPS experience like no other; a game that's both a World War 2 FPS and something different. Fighting not as a soldier, but a resistance fighter in a United States of America that's under the rule of a foreign power. Exclusive to next-generation platforms and PC, Fall Of Liberty breathes new life into the FPS genre.

Rated - 1 starWhat A Mess

Having playing this to completion, I can honestly say its one of the worst games I've played in recent years, without a doubt the shoddiest FPS in a long long time.

The most obvious problem is the graphics. An absolute disgrace, and have a very similar look to early Medal of Honour games on PSOne. This is no exaggeration, and considering the games use of the Unreal Engine3, which has produced beauty queens like R6 Vegas and Gears of War, this is all the more shocking. Everything is blocky and there is minimal detail, although the explosions do look nice. Yet nothing in the environments can be destroyed at random, not even crates.

Enemy intelligence is appalling, often taking several seconds to notice you (even on the harder settings).

The story is weak. At the start of the game you are a construction worker, yet a few levels in are leading an assassination attempt. By the games final act, you are Americas last and only hope. The story flits between locations and set pieces with no real character development, in fact almost every level sees a new type of resistance group needing your character to perform a random task, giving the plot no sense of continuity.

But plot and character development are the very least of Turning Points problems, weapons aren't exciting and lack any real sense of power. Thanks to the aiming system used, unfavourable comparisons to Call Of Duty 4 are inevitable.

Enemies don't even flinch when shot, those crouching when killed have the strange tendency to stand up, only to fall back down again. They literally appear from nowhere, quite a few Nazi soldiers appear from thin air when walking into a room.

The game is just 8 short levels, which are easily completed in a day. There is no incentive to replay them whatsoever, as it is so broken. Heads appear through doors, guns stick to walls. The human shield, Turning Points one innovative feature doesent always work.

Similarly, certain actions require button prompts, like when opening a door or activating a switch. These don't always appear, leaving you wondering where you have to go next. As the game is so painfully linear, it seems obvious. Then, after returning to the spot again it will appear. Sometimes reloading the previous checkpoint is even required for these prompts to appear. It plays and looks like a PSOne download from PSN, not a full price release. Insulting stuff.

It has only got 3 levels in it, so don't buy it!!! The graphics are amazing, the guns are Ok, the Germans like to make you jump around corners, but pretty OK. I enjoyed it but completed it in 4 hours!!!

Overall, a good game but could have room for improvement, Definitely DO NOT BUY!!

Rated - 4 starsWhat's all the fuss ; Great game!!!!

Well the graphics might not be cutting edge but they are adequate with some spectacular scenes. The storyline is good, keeps the player interested, with some cool places in the world visited so you can blow the hell out of everything. One of the first games in ages that I actually could be ar*$d to finish.

A game with big potential and a great storyline kept me playing till the end, I dont know how they have the cheek to release it in its current state though, bad graphics clipping...guns stuck though walls, kills that mysteriously levitate, AI that is laughable, one character ran without actually moving its legs...hmmm, well at least its funny, this game is full of surprises and most of them are bugs, saying all that I enjoyed the game and if only they had polished it properly it would have been fantastic, a real shame, the opening mission is worth the rent alone and a couple of missions into the game are fun to play even with the long list of bugs. I wouldnt buy this but worth a rent in my view.
