Brief synopsis of The Four Seasons

The Four Seasons revolves around three couples who take vacations together during each of the seasons. After this pattern has been established, Nick (Cariou) leaves his wife Anne (Dennis) for a much younger woman, Ginny (Armstrong). Nick then brings Ginny on the couples' shared vacations, causing the other two couples to be uncomfortable with the situation.

A great movie in terms of the dynamics we all face in dealing with love, marriage, friendships and the ebs and flows of those dynamics within a social circle. Alan Alda leads a superb cast of characters. An oldie but goodie.

We first saw this film many years ago and looked forward to seeing it again. We loved it just as much the second time around - it hardly seems to have dated at all. It is hilariously funny in parts but also very moving as it explores the changing dynamics of relationships within a group of friends who share holidays together on a regular basis. Everything changes when one of the couples separates and the husband brings his new younger partner along on the holiday instead of his wife. Excellently acted by Alan Alda, Rita Moreno Carol Burnett and Jack Weston, this film is highly recommended.

Alda's directorial debut is a nicely cast, subpar Woody Allen that nearly drowns in its own glibness. Three married couples come together for holidays every year. The film charts the longstanding friendships, the ups and the downs in a pleasingly mellow manner, but eventually all the middle-class platitudes get a bit much.

Few characters - but very appealing. Set very much in the Seventies, this film still has great charm.
