Worst film I've ever seen, it pains me that I spent money to go and see it in the cinema. Definitely one to avoid!

Rated - 4 starsBritish horror comedy earns another hit

Mk1 from Glasgow [Highly rated reviewer] , 24/02/2008

This is the new film from Paul Andrew Williams who brought us London To Brighton and is equally as good but also very different. Whilst LTB was a very dark and gritty movie, The Cottage shows another side to this very talented film maker and shows he can make really good comedies as well as dramas. The story is simple enough and doesn't pull any punches with the plot but the acting is excellent and the film is both genuinely funny and very gory at the same time. Reece Shearsmith & Andy Serkis have a great chemistry as the 2 main characters and they have some top-notch support from some other well-known British faces. If you like Peter Jackson's early movies (Braindead, Bad Taste, etc.) and also enjoyed Britain's own Shaun Of The Dead, you should definitely see this. British film-making triumphs again...

Rated - 4 starsSeverence meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Comedy horror is usually borrowing from the classics, and although this wasnt too obvious in this case, some elements of classic horror did emerge in this great com-horror. At first I thought i'd walked into the wrong film, as the starting few scenes are more like something out of a gangster film - but this is just opening the narrative that sets the scene. As a movie its a bit random, but this is accompanied by some good acting from somewhat underrated British actors. Filled with what British horror directors seem to love - gore - this isn't for the faint stomached, however if you could stomach severence, then you shouldn't be to bad.

What impressed me most about this film is that although at no point was it jumpy or terrifying, there was a lot of unnervingness to it, especially in the later, more action filled scenes (but i wont give anything away).

I can see why some people might slaughter this film (excuse the relative pun) because narratively its a bit random in terms of a horror film. But strangely it worked for me. If your not compelled to see it on the big screen, at least do it duty by renting it on release.

This film is so funny. It's freaking hilarious. I loved it. Laughed all the way through at the cinema. It manages to be scary in parts too and makes you jump. The horror can be very gory in parts too but in a funny way. Totally worth seeing. You might laugh your head off....literally.

Rated - 1 starsDisappointing

I was so disappointed in this film, I had high hopes, the story line was not clever and so much of it was pinched from other films. Really bad language as well, I cant really remember the last time I saw a film that had the word C?NT in it
