Ohhhhh this is the most boring game I have ever played.

I'm not against grindcore - I actually quite like Conan - but this game is shocking.

The graphics aren't half bad - but that's about it!

avoid - it's just repetative and BORING

Judging by the demo this game is going to be a definate to add to the top of your rental list, with immersive gameplay, stunning graphics and intense confrontations.

Rated - 4 starsDon't Cry, it's not bad...

Gnasher1001 from Southend [Highly rated reviewer] , 19/04/2008

Devil May Cry 1 was a classic action game, riding originally off the back of the Resi Evil games, it quickly became a hit with action and adventure junkies.

Devil May Cry 4 brings the series into the next-gen with glorious HD graphics that often cause dropping of the jaw. Gameplay-wise, it is mostly the same as before - OTT melee attacks that chuck enemies left right and centre with your oversized sword, gunplay that never misses, but isn't as powerful as melee, thousands of red orbs (credits/money) coming out of enemies/objects/nowhere. The sometimes dodgy camera is still there unfortunately, causing you to sometimes get slightly stuck between screens, but it isn't that much of a pain.

The main difference is the new character - Nero. He has the devil arm like Dante, but has abilities that Dante would love, to grab enemies from afar, pulling them to give them a pounding or use as a shield. You can still play as Dante (for the 2nd half of the game) and you can upgrade (or downgrade) your character as before.

The story is pretty lame - Religious Order has secrets, reluctant hero realises they're bad, kicks ass to save the girl etc etc.... but the action and beauty is where this shines. It can be repetitive, but online scoreboards mean you'll try levels again and again, and the ultra-hard modes and bonus games will get you back for more.

Graphics - 9 - fast moving and ultra-pretty

Sound - 8 - lots of clanging swords, choirs, and grunts

Gameplay - 8 - Fast-paced, fun but repetitive

Longevity - 9 - Online scoreboards, bonus games, hard levels are very hard....

Rated - 3 starsSorry, I didn't like it.

Sorry if this goes against most people's idea of this game but....

I hadn't played any of the series and I got it cause I saw the demo. This game looks good but for me it plays too slow and there are far too many cinema style mini movie interuptions. It has to potential to really annoy in places. By the 3rd mission I was annoyed. The camera angles don't help either. It takes a while to get used to the grabbing claw. Once you've beaten a rake of nasties, climbed stairs, jumped from platform to platform, danced about in mid air 'grabbing things' only to miss one and end up back at the bottom and have to do all of the above again a few times, it's a wonder that the controller doesn't get flung across the room! I didn't throw my controller, I took a deep breath, relaxed and switched the game off, put it back into the envelope, walked to the nearest post box and sent it packing. I feel better now.

Rated - 4 starsDevil Probably won't cry

The 4th in the series has a lot to live up to from previous games, but it defintely delivers. Starting off as Nero the game introduces you to the basic combat system of DMC and the early missions provide a training ground for you to develop your skills; the learning curve isn't too sharp but the combat can be as complex as you like making it ideal for newer players or hardened veterans of the series. Around mission 12 Dante (the series' hero) becomes available as a playable character and has four distinct fighting styles for a massively diverse style of play.

The graphics, music and gameplay are all fantastic and will keep you playing 'til the end and beyond, with the games increasingly hard difficulty settings.

The only reason the game doesn't get 5 stars, in my opinion, is that the second half feels a bit cheap. Dante doesn't really get any missions of his own and only gets to replay Nero's missions but in reverse.

Don't let that put you off though, DMC is a must play for Xbox360 and PS3 owners alike!
