Similar to 'Jarhead', but better

Beaufort was a similar style of movie to Jarhead in that it highlighted the routine and doldrums that occupy much of military life. Even the incoming fire was announced with a sense of routine, and a lack of concern.
The big difference between the two movies - at the most obvious level - is that Jarhead, itself, was dull, and Beaufort wasn't.
There was enough going on in Beaufort (ironically, without much actually happening) around the politics of the occupation, the politics of the withdrawl, and the personalities that you want to watch. It's also a visually more appealing movie - Jarhead is set in the desert, so they had little to work with on that front.
Beaufort isn't an action-packed 'Give 'em hell, Harry' war movie, but it is an interesting watch.
