Brief synopsis of John Carpenter's Vampires: Los Muertos

John Carpenter cohort Tommy Lee Wallace (HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH) wrote and directed this sequel to 1998's JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES. Jon Bon Jovi stars as veteran vampire hunter Derek Bliss, who is called down to Mexico for a special mission to get rid of a gang of bloodsucking undead. Tragedy forces him to quickly assemble a special team to accompany him. There, he finds a group of vampires who are once again attempting to make themselves immune to daylight, but this time, their fierce leader is female. Natasha Gregson Wagner (TWO GIRLS AND A GUY) costars.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Anaemic follow-up to John Carpenter's Vampires, with the bland Bon Jovi as the hunter. It recyles the same plot to much lesser effect.

I feel bad, having listened to the director's commentary (he is very enthusiastic), writing this review. However this has to be one of the worst films I have seen for a while. I don't know whether it is Bon Jovi's acting or the sometimes ridiculous script but it just didn't carry any conviction whatsoever.

Only watch if you really really liked the first film - but don't expect a sequel.

Seriously bad film. The first was good, James Woods has charisma and the pacing was excellent. This sequal is uttely lame, I've watched over 100 films from here and this is only the second one where I would have quite happily turned it off hlaf way. Bon Jovi is OK, but has nowhere near enough screen prescenece to carry the film and the extra characters have the depth and intrigue of a puddle of dog wee. Don't waste two hours of your life on this film.

Please don’t waste your time with this film. There are better titles for hire that blow this out of the water.
