Brief synopsis of Battlefield: Bad Company

Set in the near future, the Battlefield: Bad Company single-player campaign drops gamers into a dramatic Eurasian conflict. As part of a squad of four soldiers, players risk it all to go AWOL on a personal quest, fighting their own war within the war. Featuring a dramatic storyline flavoured with attitude, Battlefield: Bad Company leads gamers far from the traditional frontlines on a wild ride with a group of renegade soldiers who decide that sometimes the gratitude of a nation just isn't enough.

The Battlefield: Bad Company cinematic single-player experience captures the freedom and intensity of the series legendary multiplayer sandbox gameplay in a dynamic world where nearly everything is destructible. Gamers have total freedom to be daring and innovative, adapting to and tackling challenges in unexpected "Battlefield-style" ways. Create sniping positions by blowing out a piece of a wall or drive your tank straight through a small house. The ever-changing battlefield forces players, their teammates and enemies to react accordingly. The game also features a full suite of the series trademark multiplayer gameplay, supporting 24 players online.

Rated - 5 starsCOD4 Beater from what ive played!

I have just been playing a demo of this from the Xbox Live Marketplace and when I say this is a new level of realism in games... i mean it. Graphics are fantastic, explosions are incredible and the sounds are great! The controls are very similar to call of duty 4 with the left trigger being scope and the left movement stick being run when clicked down. The only odd thing i've experienced so far is that when driving vehicles the accelerate button is the left trigger and not the right trigger as in most games that use some sort of vehicle. One thing that really stands out is the way you are able to blast your way through weaker buildings with grenades, tanks and even completely blitz entire buildings with airstrikes. When hiding behind things, cover will reduce in size and most of the time be totally destroyed after its been dealt its fair amount of bullets and explosives. This is going to be a game I will buy and after playing COD4 a lot (5 star rating from me), i actually think this game could take the title when released! Now go download the demo! :) Hope this was a help.

Rated - 2 starsBug-ridden & Infuriating

This game should have been so much better. We recently had the superb Call Of Duty 4 which due to its ranking up system and a lack of new maps being issued after the Variety Pack, has started to become repetitive. As a result 360 owners were looking for something to get our teeth into to fill the gap. We had heard much of the 'destructible scenery' boasts and how you could blow up any building. Sadly, the reality was far removed from the hype. The ability to blow up walls is a novelty that fades after about an hour of playing and, although it can be useful sometimes, it is not enough to make this a COD4 beater, or even a satisfactory replacement. The AI is appalling, with your team being as useless as a swing door on a submarine, and the enemy being able to shoot you with ridiculously amazing pinpoint accuracy every time. For example, I crept around a building and saw an enemy on the roof, barely visible except for his head, and with his back turned to me, no sooner had I seen him than he turned around and shot me without a single shot missing me.

Dont get me wrong I like a challenge, but going up against an enemy who knows where you are all the time and who never miss no matter how far away they are, is frustrating to say the least. The online multiplayer is also pretty useless with none of the problems its predecessor, Battlefield: Modern Combat, suffered from having been properly resolved. After the first twenty times of being spawn-killed it gets tedious.

For those of you that have the game and disagree with me, consider this, when Gears Of War first came out, your friends list showed nothing but GOW being played, the same happened with COD4. Since Battlefield came out I have only seen a few playing it, and a lot more people are still playing COD4. This surely indicates that this game falls well beneath the high standards of those games.

If you have COD4, rent this game. If you dont have COD4, buy it instead of this.

Rated - 5 starsToo Cool to be Bad!

This game is awesome! I played B/F Modern combat when i first got my 360 and loved it. Bad Company is bigger better and more intense with great graphics and gameplay. PLease don't compare it with COD 4 as it is has a different spin on the genre. In some ways better. You can use all ground and air vehicles, gun placements and Artillery. Great on and offline. Great graphics with 90% of the scenery being destructable! The Frostbite engine certainly pushes the graphics as ar as they can go for this type of game. If you are not sure then download the demo on xbox live and give it a go. DONT KNOCK IT TILL YOU TRY IT! You wont be dissapointed.

Rated - 5 starsGame of the Year?

When I first saw this game I was sceptical and decided to rent it. Around a week later I went out and bought it and have been playing it every day since (been about a month now). I had played the previous versions for the PC like Battlefield 2142, and didn't believe a console would be able to compete with the functionality of the keyboard commands and to some extent this is true. On the PC you would be able to set your sights on an enemy soldier and highlight him with a keyboard command for the rest of your squad to be made aware of his presence. This is lacking in the console edition however it is still possible to point out an enemy by successfully injuring them (whether it be by a glancing shot or radius damage) and he will highlight on the map. Debatably it is also possible by looking at a soldier (or vehicle) through a scope for a while and eventually it will highlight.

The ability to destroy buildings extensively is the games selling point. It was around the same time that Mercenaries 2 : World in Flames came out too however, and this is why I delayed buying this game. The ability to completely destroy the roof of a building that a sniper is sitting quite comfortably in is a satisfying feeling, and quite the spectacle. This is where Mercenaries came in 1st place however, with the ability to completely flatten any building you come across. Battlefield combats this, especially in multiplayer, where if the building was to be lost completely through demolition the game would quickly be reduced to a baron desert where both teams spawned in line of sight of each other. This justifies the indestructibility of the building structures but still allows for the buildings to be hollowed out.

The single player aspect of the game I found to be quite a let down. I actually played multiplayer first (which you wouldn't usually expect) but I did eventually get round to single player as there are many special weapons only available when found in single player. This I think was a welcome addition, as from my personal experience I can not remember such a feature in other shooters. The main reason I didn't enjoy the single player too much probably was due to the unreliability of the AI, and their lifespan. I can only suggest a comparison between being online and single player; online you can expect enemy soldiers to put up quite a fight (health wise) before they fall however on single player the enemy soldiers need a mere light breeze before dying. Difficulty levels don't change the AI all that much, except for making it easier for you to die.

The storyline isn't so bad though on single player. It's the usual America fighting the Russians scenario however this time you are more interested in gold bars than what your commanding officer tells you to do. This is where the title of 'Bad Company' derives from. You are sent in to do dirty missions that are suicide to say the least, and I am not too sure if in reality the army would want you to survive, so let's just assume we are classed as expendable. As you progress through the story the missions do get harder nonetheless with greater amounts of tanks being sent towards you and air defences being set up to attack your copter. Fastest finger first as they say! Although the computer obviously as the advantage there with all it's 0's and 1's!

Multiplayer really is the saving grace of the game. Such games as Battlefield 2142 did have a single player option, but just for practice with no storyline, so it was a welcome change for it to be included within this one. Multiplayer however is the boast of the Battlefield community, with the typical awards being handed out during the rounds. For example of getting 6 kills in a row or destroying x amount of tanks in a round. The playability of this is continuous and I can't see myself changing games until perhaps the next battlefield is released (which isn't too long away, for those who have read about it!).

Overall, buy this game. Gold star!

Rated - 3 starsGreat game...yet flawed

Badassbab from Haywards Heath , 24/01/2009

This game has so much potential to be right up there with COD series of FPS, unfortuantely there is some very annoying A.I issues that stop this game from being a a triple AAA. The enemy AI is far too unrealisticly good and bad! It's very difficult to be stealthy as the AI spots you most of the time but sometimes with a fire fight raging on, some of the enemies just stand there as if nothing is happening. Your fellow soldiers are mostly useless though not always.

Another very annoying aspect is it's very difficult to spot enemy troops in the distance (they can easily spot you) and there are no binoculars in the game to help offset this. Sometimes you really need to prone to cover but the most you can do is duck thus leaving yourself exposed. Why no prone?!

Well that's the negatives out of the way. If only they can be rectified in the next Battlefield game, I'd be one happy FPS fan!

Positives...I'll keep this short- Large sandbox type worlds, destructable enviroments, good story and production values (voice acting, graphics, sound effects and music are all top notch) and loads of real life state of the art weapons. This game is real fun but those A.I issues do let it down. I guess if played on easy, the A.I is maybe more forgiving. I'd still reccommend this game to any FPS fan.
