Brief synopsis of Hellboy: The Science of Evil

Hellboy's back. You know, the crimson-skinned supernatural avenger? Born of a Nazi plot to unleash hell on the Allied forces in World War II? The ugly chap with the sawn-off horns, tail and vanished hairline? Great big Right Hand of Doom? Yeah, that guy.

Konami and Krome Studios have brought him back to the world of video games for a timely (European) release alongside the second Hellboy film, The Golden Army. But this is not the game of the film. This is spawned from the Dark Horse universe established by comics luminary, Mike Mignola.

The Science of Evil follows Hellboy doing what he does best - taking on supernatural threats spawned of Nazi evil. Here, he searches for a crazed witch, only to discover a plot for world domination hatched by the nefarious Hermann von Klempt. He doesn't like that. It must be stopped.

And so you step into Hellboy's boots and trenchcoat. The game takes the form of a hack 'n' slash, with a bit of gunplay featuring the crimson crusader's big ol' pistol. Players make their way through shadowy environments, pregnant with evil and menace, to do battle with all manner of unearthly nastiness.

While this may not be a direct adaptation of the film, Ron Pearlman picks up his live-action role as the voice behind Hellboy. He's joined by Selma Blair and Doug Jones, who reprise their roles as Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien respectively.

Players will also be able to dabble in a spot of co-op play, with supporting characters from Hellboy's world joining him online to fight the good fight.

Its hard to believe this game is a modern game, it looks like a early ps2 game mostly and the gameplay is outdated, you could mistake this game from a bad game from about 8-10 years ago. Very basic combat, boring level design and the enemies lack imagination which shows how lazy (or poor?) the developers are as Hellboy movie and comic has some very imaginative monsters. The game offers co-op via Live but playing through the game again would be too much. The game offers some easy achievements, completing the game single player, in co-op mode and some painfully dull ones for killing enemies with certain objects. I would say avoid unless want the achievement points or really really want to play a Hellboy game
