Rated - 5 starsBest game ever?

Inkeyes from Nottingham , 22/07/2008

I cannot wait for the release of this title.

The physics engines ( yes there are 3 used in this game) have all been built from scratch and from trailers and video reviews look like the most realistic engines ever used.

The graphics are phenominal and it is promised to be a lengthy game also, plus who can argue with chucking stormtroopers around a room with your mind? no one thats who.

I will be deffinatly purchasing this game and i thoroughly recommend this to any star wars fans and new comers alike.

Rated - 2 starsStar Wars Force Unleashed

Profplums from Newcastle upon Tyne , 20/09/2008

Bought this game today, and so far have spent 4 hours on it

It has the star wars wow factor - sounds and darth vader etc, BUT

It is quite repetitive, has terrible camera dynamics, half the time i cant see where i am going, or the camera is inside my body.

Graphics are ok, but not a patch on, for example MGS4.

I would recommend renting and not buying this game

this game is great, if you love star wars then you must get it, the graphics are decent and the force powers are so much fun, never had i had so much fun gripping a stormtrooper, frying his ass, then send him hurling 100 feet in the air, this is a MUST.

Ipster from Brighton , 20/10/2008

I'd played the demo and was, quite frankly, wetting my pants with excitement. You take control of a Sith you say? You run around and kill Imperials and Rebels? Hell yeath. Then it sinks in. That's all you do. Sure the graphics are fairly good. The first time you use force lightening rocks. But it jut gets a little too samey for my taste.

If you absolutely have to play this game rent it. Or wait for the many copies that will no doubt appear in second hand game stores.

Also as It's set between episodes 3 & 4 you kinda know that what your character is trying to do is never going to happen.

Kicking Darth Vader into next week was kinda fun though.

Rated - 4 starsRent it NOW, don't buy it though

A customer from UK , 08/10/2008

Great game, lots of fun.. but after only maybe 8 hours of gameplay (on the default difficulty) its finsihed. Ok, you can go back and collect all of the force cubes etc, and go through on the higher difficulties, but once its done, its done.

Really enjoyed it, just glad i rented first, as i;ve saved myslef £40 to buy it.

Can't wait for part 2 ;)

Rated - 4 starsSlightly disappointed

A customer from Cornwall , 24/09/2008

The Star Wars saga is arguably the greatest cinema saga of all time. So you'd expect a game that bridges the two parts of the saga to be...Well....Cinematic. That's where this game epicly failed for me.

The best part of this game was blowing enemies away with a force push, or throwing them miles into the sky with a force grab. Once you've done that in a few fun situations you'll have had all the fun you'll have with this game.

The graphics are awesome. The physics are immense. The battles are pretty good, with some truly GREAT set pieces. And of course there's customizable lightsabres! So really this should be a 5 star game. But because of the weak plot and very formulaic level structure (Go to this planet kill this person) i can only give it a 4.

The story is told through short cut scenes between levels, i suppose in an attempt to keep the action high they skimped out on puttng time into telling the story, which just hinders it really ¬_¬ That's what ruined this the most for me, the lack of a 'OH MY GOD!' at the end, the lack of a 'Wow!' through parts of the story, it wasn't enough,

It took be about 6-8 hours to complete. Which seems to be the average these days. The action's great, REALLY great, the character customization's awesome, the combos are immense, the force powers are AMAZING. But it skimps on the plot. And it has huge load times just to load a menu, which is a bit annoying. But still, it was pretty awesome, definitely a rent rather than a buy though. I'd be SO gutted if i spent £40 on this.

Rated - 3 starsStunning Graphics, poor gameplay

A customer from Suffolk , 18/11/2008

Upon first playing this game i was very impressed with the graphics and force powers etc. However after playing a few levels the gameplay became quite repetitive and with the likes of Bioshock, Fallout3 and farcry2 on my rental list i decided to send it back rather than waste a rental slot. I can't really comment fully as I did not play the game to completion but here is what I found:

Good Things

1. Graphics are stunning

2. Very nice lightsaber combat and the best force powers available

Bad things about this game;

1. Unresponsive controls - It can take a few button presses to get the on-screen character to respond. Directing the force powers and targeting can be a bit

haphazard also

2. Very linear gameplay with little to do apart from follow a restrictive path with similar enemies until you reach a boss ( i.e jedi )

3. In order to kill tougher enemies such as Jedi, when their health is almost finished it goes into an automated cur scene sequence with you having to press the correct combination of buttons to successfully kill the opponent. This is pointless as you are watching the screen for what button to press next instead of the cut scene

4. When accessing any of the menu options you have to wait for it to load which I've never seen in a game before.

I played this game for about half an hour then got bored. All you do is throw objects at things which can be fun for a few minutes but it quickly loses its appeal.

Rated - 1 starHack n slash

partyon from St. Helens , 04/12/2009

I did'nt know what to expect with this game but i stuck it on my list simply because it was Star wars. Turn's out it plays like a hack n slash such as devil may cry etc and that just was'nt my kind of thing.

If you love Star wars or games were fighting enemies with massive combo's is the order of the day then it's probably worth a rent. If you love both then it's a must rent.

Rated - 3 starsIt could have been so great

TrogTrident from Rochdale , 05/11/2009

There's some clever technology behind this game and it shows; clever physics and maths to control how objects behave, bend and break. The computer characters have some sense of AI and they look rather nice as you throw them off cliffs.

The graphics are pretty good. They look average next to some PS3 games but they do the job and it's not all about the pictures.

The game itself is very linear but there's a good variety of locations and baddies to beat to a pulp. Especially when you're using some of your nastier force skills like the Emperor style lightning.

I can forgive all these things but the control system just didn't feel responsive and it often felt I was suggesting to the game character what to do rather than feeling I was in control. If you can get to grips with the controls or they don't bother you then you'll probably really enjoy this game.

Rated - 2 starsReally dissapointing

Gayrath from London , 11/10/2009

It could have been amazing.

Unfortunatelythis game is hampered with a terrible levelling facility, absurdly bad camera dynamics and gameplay. It strikes me that they thought that allowing you to have powerful force abailities was enough and they didn't need to put any effort into allowing these force abilities to be used easily.

Rated - 5 starsStar Wars: The Force Unleashed on PS3

Robin125 from Alfreton, England , 11/10/2009

Overall a good game, 8/10

One of those games worth renting but sadly not buying, the game gave me around 6-7 Hours playtime, i'm not someone who will go back and get all the Unlocks etc

the Story overall was good with good cut-scenes and the 2 endings are also worth playing both of them, one Ending Cannon one not...

The games use of the force abilities and powers are what make it better then previous Star Wars titles, while managing to have a compelling story that fits in and around the films. [Between Revenge of the Sith and New Hope]

Rated - 4 starsStar Wars at its best!

Langto from Saltaire , 29/09/2009

Wow! Unbelievable graphics from Lucas Arts studio, but I guess we would expect that eh. Best game graphically I have played. One point you have to pull an Imperial Starship out of the sky using the force - it's so cool you're almost doing the actions with the ps3 controller. May the Force be with you!

Rated - 3 starsNot a Star Wars fan at all...

A customer from Manchester , 18/09/2009

but this was a lot of fun. It's basically Star Wars meets Devil May Cry (gameplay-wise). It's not that difficult, and you'll get through it in about 6-8 hours depending on your skill level, but you won't find yourself getting bored. Definitely worth the rent, and with the addition of a trophy patch and two (paid) DLC packs, it could keep you entertained for a fair bit longer.

Oh, and Star Wars fans will love this even more, even if the fan service is a little too obvious at times.

Rated - 4 starsStar Wars Worthy

DopeyDude DopeyDude from London [Highly rated reviewer] , 05/09/2009

This game delivers in so many ways.

Destructable enviroments, amazing powers, amazing moves and a story worth a movie.

This game was amazing, I played it before when it first came out and then decided to play it again for the new trophies.

Amazingly I found myself enjoying even more than before and just found myself really relating the story.

The characters are all created with great depth making you feel how they do and really makes you feel like you're in the game in some ways.

The fighting is wonderful, you get a real light saber feeling and with cool moves, what more can you ask for. The Sith Master difficulty is a must for any gamer, this made the game very enjoyable.

The graphics are pretty decent, not as good as some of the other games, but it's a 3rd person game. There are also quite a few camera troubles from time and the game glitched too many times. One time defeating Darth Vader on max difficulty, when his health was practically down to nothing, it decided to glitch and he wouldn't take no damage or move so killing myself was the only way >_>

That aside, an awesome game and a must play for Star Wars fans or for non fans.

Rated - 3 starsfun for a while

BaronB BaronB from Hull , 26/08/2009

I played this for a while, and it was great fun, for a while, but after a while it became boring, the graphics are great though, although i would have liked to have had more interaction with the surroundings, there is some but it isn't as much as i would have liked, but that aside, after a while throwing your opponents chopping them blasting them etc or even your allies is fun it gets tiresome after a while, and there really isn't anything mind challenging which is what i was expecting being a Jedi game.

Its a good rental game though, and if you are a star wars fan then maybe you will want to own it, but i wouldn't recommend it as a must have.

Rated - 2 starsFar to short

Katanic123 from Doncaster , 09/07/2009

worth renting, been a while since ive played a decent star wars game, very short unfortunatly thats the major let down with the game

Rated - 3 starsGreat for the most part but frustrating

GeekyPaul from London , 30/06/2009

Having played both Dark Forces:Jedi Knight and Jedi Outcast,i was quite looking forward to this titlle retaining some of the classic gameplay those games had (large open areas, plenty of jedi powers and abilities too customize, stormtroppers to beat up etc etc).

The Force Unleashed delivers in droves on Jedi/Sith lightsabre malarky with the added

benefit of a physics engine that allows objects to be manipulated, thrown around and destroyed with reckless abandon.

Taking the role of a misguided young man who, like Anakin Skywalker before him serves as a pawn BUT not the emperor but of 'Ani', Darth Vader himself. As the plot progresses 'the apprentice' questions his actions and seeks to rectify them.

Well,i assume he does as i didnt get the complete it.The is a potential great moment when you have to bring down a Star Destoyer, and while the concept is epic the executionis flawed as its pigging difficult to do so due to number of TIE Fighters shooting yer arse.

I didnt have the patience as i wanted another rental so i sent it back.

But don't let me put you off.The Force Unleashed is a great rental otherwise but due to its repitiveness i wouldnt pay full price for it.

This should have been a great game, however the gameplay is repetititve and doesn't really build. go to planet kill baddies kill big boss. Also whilst upgrades are available you never feel any real progress when you get them. glad I rented it not bought it. Only worth renting to throw stormtroopers around using the force then sendit back

Rated - 3 starsFine for a rent

qotas from Lincoln , 27/05/2009

I had heard off a friend that this game was amazing fun and that the force powers were excellent. I must admit I was pretty dissapointed when I tried it myself. Sure some of the powers were pretty fun, picking up storm troopers and chucking them into each other was quite a lol but after I had done that for about 30 mins its novelty had worn off a bit. I know this review is making the game sound a bit naff but I stuck it out and completed it and all in all it was actually ok, the story line was good and some of the missions were fun.

I'd have to say that if it hadn't been hyped up by my mate then I might have enjoyed it more but that said I think it is well worth a rent. I wouldn't shell out any money to buy it though as it is pretty short.

The best advice I can give really is rent it and make your own mind up about it because I am firmly on the fence about this title!

dudester from Grays , 12/05/2009

A decent fun game and using the force can be really awesome. But theres a few parts to this that are just too mind numbling tedious they spoil it a little.

As a game tho I would say perfect rental title as you can get through it and enjoy it but I wouldn't have paid full price for it.

Godbomb from Stafford , 23/03/2009

Rated - 2 starsNot quite right

samigurumi samigurumi from london , 22/03/2009

The game was far too short in my opinion and you never really understand why some of the people you collect along the way are actually coming with you. I mean the graphics are pretty good and Its always fun playing a bad guy but At the end of the day its not nearly as good at the 'knight of the old republic' series. The voice acting isnt terrible but theres just not enough character development for you to actually care what happens to anyone.

Its good if you need something to keep you amused for a day or two but if you're looking for something with replay value, look elsewhere.

Rated - 4 starsnot bad

A customer from Solihull , 25/01/2009

After what I read in magazines and saw on the internet I was pretty pesimistic about this game. But it's not bad at all. Good graphics and sound, ok game mechanics. But story is absolutely awesome and could be easily made in to a real Star Wars film. It's great rent. Buying it is just waste of money, but as I said great fun for a rent.

And what an ending! It's well worth it to play it through just for story, I couldn't stop playing not because it was so much fun, but because I wanted to know what happens next.

Rated - 3 starsGood But no Cigar!!

A customer from Newport , 13/12/2008

'Good But no Cigar!!' , a saying i have used to describe games , that in my oppinion lack that final bit of finishing.

As you might know, in this game u play as darth vaders apprentice, an apprentice he was never supposed to have. This part is made very clear, but its the only thing made clear throughout the game.

Gameplay - The Gameplay is brilliant in my oppinion, the various stylish lightsaber moves and the connection with the force makes fighing on this game excellent fun, thats if u can be bothered to learn all the moves off by heart. But it is rewarding , Ripping off Lightning fast moves followed by a storm of electric pulses is just so satisfying . However for the button bashers out there it is very difficult to pull of anything that is worth viewing , you really have to learn the moves this time.

story- The story is severly lacking. If it wasnt for the games high predicitbility you would struggle to follow points at all. Now im trying to exsplain this without spoiling any of the game. Not that there is much to spoil the game is only good for its visual in my oppinion. The story unfolds all of a sudden and you left thinking, WHATTTTTT. So in this case i think the game needed to spend just that little bit more time with its FMV's and really portray, What really could of been a good spin off of a star wars film. The game gives you no time to really get to knwo the charecters. To you the charecters are jsut a face on the cover. So you carnt really get attached to them. Bummer for all of us that like a good story line.

Overall this game has good but somewhat repetitive gameplay , however the story just , Sucks. Worth a play for people who enjoy some awesome visuals (best i have seen for a long while) , but for you people who like stroyline i regret to say this game lacks.

Rated - 4 starsGood old-fashioned gaming

A customer from Warrington , 28/10/2008

When i first got this game my initial thoughts were that it didn't look cutting edge, like some of the other next-gen titles out there. Graphics are good, but not amazing and the controls are good but a little awkward.

But after getting into the game you forget all this and enjoy the playability of the game, which this this game has in bundles. Like the old Jedi Knight games, this is great fun to play, and as you advance you are rewarded with extra jedi skills and see your character grow.

The controls become more natural soon into the game and you'll soon be picking up stormtroopers, lifting them into the air, impaling them with your lightsaber, electrifying them and then throwing them into the oncoming enemies as a weapon. Lot's of fun.

At first it seemed as though i was playing Jedi Knight II as it looked and played simialr to the old PC game, without advancing too much graphically. But it has to be said, the more you play the more you enjoy the game, it's hard to put it down.

I call it good old-fashioned gaming, because this is one of those games you can complete in a week (unlike the open world games like GTA IV, Oblivion etc.) but you get a great sense of achievement from actually finishing a game for once these days!

All in all, this game is great fun, hard to put down, and an excellent title to rent as you'll soon have it cracked if you stick at it, even if you do go back for some more light saber slashing once it's finished!

Rated - 5 starsBest Star Wars game to date?

Achitophel from Harpenden , 07/10/2008

Excellent graphics and generally involving gameplay, superb voice-acting and decent longevity make this one of the few 'must-buy' PS3 games I have played to date. Difficulty factor does scale up nicely and there are enough twists and turns to ensure that it remains playable.

Worth making the effort to use more than the couple of force powers and combos that you'll quickly pickup, since that really does transform the game. Only niggle for me is the third party camera angle and update speed can cause you to lose sight of the player or your immediate target, but it's by no means a game breaker - you adapt to it after a few hours of playing in my experience.

Rated - 5 starsBrilliant game for Star Wars geeks

A customer from Altrincham , 06/10/2008

I am a Star Wars geek, and this is a great game, but it is flawed.

The thing that strikes you about this game initially are the graphis, more specifically the modelling behind the main character and Darth Vader. As you're cutting a swathe through the Wookiee forests as the big black dude the reactions of the environments and the wookiees as the tumble to their deaths under various Force powewrs is brilliant, but as you play through the whole game you will see locations reused over and over. Complete a mission on one planet and sure enough you will be back there in a few levels time to do something similar, but wearing a different outfit and perhaps swinging a different sabre. Other than that the main character isn't too customisable. You can choose which outfit to wear, but you can't change any of the espects of it. You could, if you wanted, wear the outfit from level 2 while completing level 4 but that's about it. Add in two cheats that opens up a couple other outfits and that's your lot.

The lightsabres are customisable by colour, and how the light shimmers from the blade, and how the blade affects targets that it hits. Some crystals allow you to poison the person / thing you are attacking, others make your attacks more electrical and things like that.

But the whole concept of this game is the Force powers at your disposal. Picking people up and throwing them around the environment is good to begin with but you bore of it soon enough. Even throwing stormtroopers through the front canopies of oncoming TIE Fighters gets boring after the third or fourth one. How the game gets around this is an old idea, but still works. Continue with the same move (dropping an enemy off a cliff) gets you less of a reward in terms of points or energy. Keep changing how you attack your foes earns you more points and then allows you to buy even more moves, of which there are plenty. You can batter your way through the whole game using two moves, but where's the fun in that?

When you see the polished graphics of the main character (and Vader) one of the other characters is less polished. Juno Eclipse is your pilot and her modeling and movement is obviously not given any care and attention compared to that spent on The Apprentice. You can tell that they have gone as photorealistic as possible with the Apprentice and most likely used mohion capture to get the moves all looking sleek and elegant. For Eclipse though she looks blurred, as though they are trying to get the same affect in a game as they got in Zorro every time Catherine Zeta-Jones in on the screen, by hazing the screen to make here look better. In the clean-cut world of BR-DVD it doesn't work. Her movements are less human than C-3PO's and when she walks she looks like a Thunderbird puppet. To me, those cut-scenes with her in are flawed and take away from the game experience.

The storyline is very structured. The back of the box and all the advertising say that the decisions you make will echo through the Star Wars universe, but at the end of the day you as a player make no decisions. There is no choices for you to make - it is a case of fly here and kill this person. It's the moralistic world of Star Wars, closely controlled by George Lucas and it all has to fit in with his grand plan. How the story all links together and fits into the Star Wars universe is very good. People pop up and you have an affect on them, and you can see why certain aspects of the original films has come about. If you are a Star Wars fan then knowing some of the origins of different aspects of the staory is very good, and for some will be reason enough to buy the game.

This game though, has a distinct lack of any online capabilities, which in this day an age is criminal. With (semi-)customisable characters to bring this online would be hardly any trouble to LucasArts and PS3 at all.

I bought this game very soon after it came out and am still playing it now, having completed it already. Altogether it took me about 6 hours to complete it, and I have to admit I am quite happy with the whole package. I can see why anyone who isn't an ardant Star Wars fan would choose to rent it rather than buy, but with the opportunity to go through the game on harder settings, get all of the special moves and collect all the holocrons, that rental period could be drawn out to a long one.

Rated - 1 starTruly Awful

Cigol Cigol [Highly rated reviewer] , 23/09/2008

Honestly, do yourself a favour - give it a wide berth. The games physics are indeed impressive but they do little to divert your attention from the turgidly boring gameplay. or the old fashioned, unrefined mechanics of said gameplay. This is a truly awful game which lacks in every department.

If you are at all interested in the 'canon' story (oh really?) then for god sakes read it, don't try playing the game. It's a colossal waste of time.
