If you play this and find Halo 3 to be more fun, you should commit suicide OR have a vivisectomy.

exploration of Oblivion, more voice actors (more than just 7!) and getting to shoot people in the face, instead of having to rely on a sword.

Rated - 1 starDisappointing.

A customer from Salford, Manchester , 02/11/2008

I really enjoyed Elder Scrolls Series and I think Bethesda did a really good job on them, but I played this game for an hour or two and couldn't bare playing any more it was atrocious the graphics were spot on but the game is so boring, after a while the wasteland got repetitive and asking people for anything would result in a quest of some sort that dosen't take that long to do but having to do them over and over again became tedious. Another thing is that the A.I. is this game is so stupid for example, I was using V.A.T.S to shoot a guy in head while I was in the pub and just after I had clicked A some stupid A.I. Woman stands up and soaks up all the bullets. Then the whole town was trying to shoot me, that coupled with just about everything else wrong with this game made me put it back in it's case and put it in an envelope ready for posting. I had to resort to playing the mirrors edge demo, which I had downloaded from the marketplace.

Anyway thank God Gears Of War 2 is out this week!

Rated - 3 starsA Perfect Mix of Old and New

A customer from London , 09/11/2008

While I was looking forward to Fallout 3 I was also worried they'd mess it up. You see I played through the first Fallout twice and the second Fallout 6 times.

That's how much I loved the series. So if they buggered it up I'd be sure to know. I'm happy to say it's the same while being different. The combat system reminds me a lot of the original fallouts while not being fully turn based,

you'll find yourself using VATS to gain a strategic advantage in so many ways. Even when you don't have action points you can use VATS to survey the area and even aim up your gun on your desired enemy, when you drop from vats your crosshair will be over the last mob you targetted.

The sheer scale of the world is amazing, I spent 3 hours playing the game before i'd even got to the first town to speak to anyone. 8 hours in and i'm still doing their quests while ignoring the story completely.

People move around in towns rather than staying in their buildings, it's a great idea to make you explote but some of the dialogue hasn't been thought out. I was standing in the middle of irradiated water next to an unexploded bomb and asked an npc if there was a bar around here. He replies 'are you joking pal? you're standing in one! this one!'

it turns out he was under the impression I was standing in his bar..... either that or he was a severe Jet addict.

for the most part it works and I love the game for it. Some of the direction given by npc's to a quest is badly designed, I spent a good hour searching the three places an npc told me 'the Family' had been seen before I gave up and looked online, i'm ashamed but in fairness i'd never have found it otherwise. it was bloody miles away from where the npc had told me to go. I ran in to some super mutants on my original search so I got a mini gun out of it. Loving this game.

if you're a gears or halo fan stay away. it's not for the impatient.

EDIT:

On completion, i've become severely dissapointed. the ending isn't linked to quests throughout the game like in the original fallouts.

good karma = good ending

bad karma = bad ending

with the only other variable being a choice you make in the last 2 minutes of play.

the devs got almost everything right except the ending system... a system that gave the originals so much replay value that is sorely missing from this game.

My rating for the game has been reduced by 2 stars for missing a fundamental part of the games structure.... I mean in other terms it's like doing something as stupid as turning super speedy sonic the hedgehog in to a slow werewolf or something.... oh wait -.-

A customer from Wednesbury , 06/11/2008

I'll narrow it down in score wise and then i will review - Graphic10/10, Music 8/10, Gameplay 9/10, Story defo 10/10. Right lets start with the graphics first, my first thoughts when looking at the world of fallout is oh my GOD and i actually tohought that because i was speechless, my eyes widened and my jaw just dropped, i can't really explain how beautiful the graphics look when you first see leave the vault and see the enviroment you have to fend of ants the size up to your knee caps that breath fire (i fought one of these horrible things), get the game and experience it first hand the graphics on the characters may not be too brilliant but the apocolyptic world is sheer gorgeus. Music now, if people have played this and are now thinking why in gods name has he gave the game 8 for music well the game is set just after 1 of the wars (don't really know in all fairness) and if its set in the historic days then you can't run around with slayer blasting away whilst blowing people's head off, you have the old music and you dont realize how great it is kickin a** and listening to soft pleasent music (the music of this game to me was very remeniscent of the gears of war trailer when marcus is fighting the seeder and you cant hear anything else but 'mad world' as the background song). The gameplay in this game is great, if you get critical hits then limbs and heads start flying everywhere also sneaking up on enemies and putting live grenades in their pockets and watching fireworks of flesh and blood just fly is always great to see : ) oh there is also weopon customization, like you can make a rock it lancher where you can fire things that you find like tin cans, plates and my all favourite TEDDY BEARS. I never thought i would see the day when you can kill big mutunts beasts with a killer mr. ted very nice. I can't really say much bout the story as i am still at the beggining of the game but the main story involves you trying to find your dad after he escaped the vault but with a game that is this brilliant i am rellying on my intuition that there is more to it than that and the reason i am still at the begginning after a file of 7+ hours is i just keep getting side tracked with different side quests and i reckon there are a lot of side quests as i am still at the start and only found 1 civilized town. If people like a good game to last a fairly long time then fallout is the game for you. Sorry but i need to finish off with another 'brilliant' because i am just in love with this game lol so start renting to see if you agree with me

wouldnt wish this game on anyone

but i understand its one of the best games out there. personally cant see why.

though it does look like the developers spent an awful lot of time in making it

Rated - 5 starsBrilliant Game

A customer from Solihull , 01/11/2008

I bought this game on release day, the collectors edition, on xbox 360. It's absolutely brilliant. One of the few games I would actually recommend buying. I was a huge fan of Oblivion, and have been looking forward to the third instalment of Fallout ever since. (most of the other games were before my time, I'm only 15). Anyways the game itself. I don't think they can make a single improvement. It's absolutely fantastic. Rather than the normal 5 hour cinematic of your character's tragic childhood you normally expect, Fallout lets you live them. Right from the very start with the blood speckled screen and bright lights when you are first born. You choose gender, name, what you will look like etc. You first time to control your character is when they are 1 year old. You then get to play at intervals of 10, 16 and finally 19 years of age where you escape Vault 101 in chase of your father. The parts are only small, but they do allow you to appreciate your character more as you progress in the game. What really makes these games unique, is the freedom, and the realism. The freedom to do what you want, go where you want, and forge your own path through the game. Everything you do affects what happens in different situations. I don't want to put any spoilers in this, but in the first 30 mins of playing, you will face a fairly major decision which will change the game in many different ways, whatever you decide to do. The combat system is another stroke of genius in the game. NOTHING is more satisfying than pausing time, firing off the perfect headshot into an enemy, and watching the head explode from the corpse in slow motion! Especially when they are those damn mutated moles, or bee things :@ This game is so massive that I cannot possibly cover everything in one review!! I have only been playing it for about an hour, and already there has been so much to do, and so many places to explore. A truly classic game. A must for anyone!!

Rated - 5 starsSimply Fantastic

Zcottz from Leeds [Highly rated reviewer] , 03/11/2008

This is probably my favourite single player game since Oblivion.

This game is practically Oblivion with a face lift and guns. The environments look spectacular and the gameplay is amazing.

Don't be fooled when you swear you should have hit that bandit with a perfect head shot...this is an RPG. Being godly at Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3 does not mean you will be good at this. This game, like Oblivion before it, is all about character development.

The story is probably the games strong point - some people have complained that the side quests are very frustrating - they seem to forget that these are OPTIONAL. You can stick to the main quest through out the game. It is advisable to complete the side quests though, as it will ultimatley make the main quest easier to accomplish.

Overall: fantastic game, great graphics, involving storyline, endless capabilites.

Don't be fooled - it's not a shoot 'em up, this is an RPG - Bethesda's bread and butter.

A customer from Southport , 02/12/2008

Alot of people really do love Fallout 3. But after playing oblivion for months and months I have lost all interest in the RPG genre. This is just an opinion and for new comers to these types of games, I'm sure they will be just as enthralled at the quantity and detail in the game.

There are many positives just looking at the game. Like any RPG they have a very detail story that really involves you in the story, making decisions with different characters can change the result of outocmes.

For example, do camps get blown up? Down to you.

The game is very detailed and this means that there is a steep learning curve. This does make the game very real but it can take quite a few hours to learn the functions the game offers. The tutorial only offering a very basic understanding for the player of the game.

From the scenery that I scene it is very detailed. Even through a destroyed city you feel at home than if inside a tube station. The use of lighting etc really makes you feel scared.

In conclusion if you are new to the series of RPG's you will love this game, just give it time. If you are returning to the RPG genre from something like oblivion, I think it will be disappionted.

Rated - 4 starsPrepare for Fallout!!!

A customer from Glastonbury , 17/12/2008

A game anticipated for many years, originally in development by Black Isle Studios this game was finally completed by the masters of RPG Bethesda of Elder Scrolls fame.

The game is set in a post-apacalyptic Washington D.C, now known as the capital wastelands. You start life in vault 101, your safety blanket from the horrors of the wasteland. At this stage of the game you get to create a character, male or female and tailor your playing style by allocating skill points. At age 19 your father does the unthinkable and leaves the safety of the vault for the wastelands, leaving you behind with many questions only he can answer. Decideing to venture out into the wastelands in search of your father and answers you leave vault 101.

This is the begining to one of the greatest games ever. Spanning 50+hours of gameplay, hundreds of quests and a great storyline, this has to be a contender for game of the year. With the pattented VATS combat system, which need to be experianced to beleive, you will be killing super mutants and slaying fireants in no time.

This game is great value and wil keep you entertained for hours on end, I sincerely recommend this one who has a console or pc to play it.

AlisterCat from Seaford [Highly rated reviewer] , 10/02/2009

Bethesda have shot to the top of people's favourite developers this generation despite only making The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This game blew people away with it's sheer amount of content and strong RPG elements. Bethesda acquired the license for the Fallout franchise, and now we have Fallout 3. Bethesda have tried to remain as faithful to the Fallout franchise as possible, while not letting it get in the way of their vision of making a great RPG. A lot of the places, characters and items all stick to the previous fallout games. You can definitely see the Elder Scrolls influence in there though, as it is much closer to that in terms of gameplay.

I won't go on much more about this game. All you need to know is that it is a deep, reward, exciting and fun game. There is so much to do (although disappointingly there are much less quests than Oblivion, but some quests are fairly long). If you like Oblivion, and enjoy shooters you are bound to like this. Even if you don't enjoy the game, nobody can deny the sheer amount of work that has gone in to making this a great game.

5/5, I can't recommend this enough. One of my favourite ever games.

Only rent if you are unsure. A game that just has to be bought to fully enjoy.

Rated - 5 starsGOTY ?

A customer from Lincoln , 26/12/2008

Just finished this game and I couldn't recommend it highly enough!

This is possibly the game of the year for me.

The detail that has been put into this game is ridiculous I’m sure you could play it through several times and still find new things or different approaches to take.

The game has some easter eggs which are funny when you spot them (such as a location called Chevy Chase)

This game is great if you like building stats whilst having a character that is totally customizable. You can pick up loads of different objects (weapons, armour etc.) Which just further changes your experience of the game compared to everyone else's.

The choices you make really have a profound result on the outcome of the game. Sometimes frustratingly so when you realise you have just skipped a few missions.

This game took me 70+ hours to complete along with all side quests and exploring a large amount of the map (there is still loads to explore)

Yes it takes a little while to get into but it’s totally worth it.

A very rewarding game and I don't think you will regret getting it.

A customer from UK , 09/12/2008

I've never been a fan of any RPG stuff but though this might be an exception. Unfortunately I found this game boring and generally not very good. VATS system is pretty cool though I guess and I liked been able to play through the early years of my characters life whilst in the Vault. I know most people will adore this game but its pants in my opinion :)

Lioncub Lioncub from Edinburgh, Scotland [Highly rated reviewer] , 01/03/2009

I have played through the entire game, including the side quests and the optional downloadable side quests. This game pulls you in and you will find yourself playing it for longer than is healthy! This is thanks to the hauntingly isolated post nuclear atmosphere and quirky retro music from the radio stations. This unique atmosphere complements the mature storyline and many compelling side quests. This is not really a rental option as to get the most out of the game you would need it it for a few weeks at least. If you liked oblivion you should love this.

Rated - 4 starsOverall Good - But Really Oblivion with Guns

A customer from Southampton , 04/01/2009

This is a nice game, but for those of you that have played Oblivion, you will really not be getting much more out of this game. The Engine is very much the same as that used in Oblivion.

Pros:

Great storyline, great to see another addition to the awesome Fallout series.

Blowing off limbs never gets old :D

Great graphics and atmospherics. Can be dark, but not too dark.

The game environment upholds the storyline well.

Good mix for FPS-orientated guys and more RPG-orientated guys.

The environments are cool.. Especially DC.

Cons:

Quick to complete (in Oblivion you can complete the main quest line and carry on playing, not the case in FO3 - I found this out the hard way).

Playing 'Evil' chars I found more fun, but also a little too limiting (e.g. I was looking forward to enslaving everyone, but you cannot - regardless of their impact on storyline).

Did I mention it is Oblivion with Guns? - Nothing 'new' really comes in to play here.

Some of the dialogue can be frustrating and overly-time consuming (e.g. no quick way to back out etc.)

On the Whole:

I enjoyed playing it for a bit, but it started to get pretty old pretty quick. Especially after I completed with my Good char. A quest is a quest is a quest. It was a little more fun to run around as a Bad char for a bit, but again, it then got stale pretty quick.

ALL THIS SAID - I do 'prefer' shooters over RPG's so my opinion may be biased, do with it what you will.

Mark as a spoiler since it contains hints to elements of the game that some people may not be aware of.

Rated - 5 starsOblivion With Guns!?

A customer from Oldham , 12/12/2008

Well yeah, but no. This is the RPG to end all RPG's. Yeah Fable II is good but this is so much better. Oblivion was probably the most enjoyable game I've played, until Fallout, this is in a league of it's own.

Mine along with many others favorite type of game is the First Person Shooter and this is both 1st and 3rd person going wrong nowhere. With some incredibly cool aspects of this game, a very large number of quest, a complete armory of awesome and devastating weapons and perk feature make this game one of the best games you can buy.

I rented it, played it for two hours and bought the collector's edition, that's just how good this is.

Didn't get a chance to play it as my son hogged it from the minute it arrived and was so engrossed he forgot to watch normal telly. Three days later he insisted on spending the last of his Christmas money on buying a copy. Conidering it's his birthday in two weeks him spending a bean on anything he could've got for free says more than any review. And speaking as someone who has only been allowed to watch rather than play seems to be an absolute stormer of a game. We had to go to 5 shops before we could even find a copy as it had sold out everywhere. One shop has used up it's next lot in advance orders already. Rent it to try it and then buy it once the shops restock.

Rated - 4 starsNear-perfect game

A customer from Manchester , 09/12/2008

After playing Bethesda's Oblivion on the XBox360, there was no way i wasn't renting this game. Whether it was true to the previous Fallouts or not, this was top of my list the second it was available.

From the beginning the game doesn't disappoint. This game has an intelligent way of having you modify what your character looks like and what skills he/she should have. As you grow up in your home decisions you made when you were 10 years old affect how people talk to you and perceive you when your 16.

This game does what Fable 2 promised to do, and then some. Fallout 3 feels like your actions actually do have a consequence and the Good/Bad karma system seems to work quite well.

The only drawback, and reason i didn't give this game 5 stars is the storyline. Whilst being an interesting and generally good storyline (compared to most games nowadays), halfway through, the games shifts it into overdrive. You seem to complete the game without really realising it.

With this i'd recommend doing all your side quests first before you complete the game. As afterwards you're left a little disheartened by the whole experience.

Currently i've clocked 37 hours on Fallout and still have much to do. A very good game.

lock yourself in for a long time for this game.

so much to explore, an excellent story line, great graphics, weapons, etc.

overall an awesome game

the only reason i wouldnt give it 5 stars is that there were a few graphics glitches when you walk in some places (a big blank triangle takes over).

and also when the ammo and health is hard to find, you can too easily be killed by enemies which i think are irrelevant to the storyline, which is quite annoying.

I bought this game when it was released and played it for 2 hours or so and didn't think much of it so i gave it to a mate. Then after stumbling up on a huge review, i was in awe whilst reading it so i decided to rent it again.

I still couldn't see what made this game seem so good! The Pitbull? seems irriatating to use, the weapons are rubbish, the gameplay is boring! The graphics are amazing, but i don't play games to look at the scenery, that comes last on my list when i'm playing games.

Dont get me wrong i AM a fan of RPG games i loved Oblivion which was the first game i got in 2006 when i got my Xbox 360. I even still play it on a regular basis. But this game is just boring.

I would still reccomend a rental. I just dont think im into the weapons on this game, RPGs are so much better when played with swords!

No doubt I'm not going to be able to say anything here that hasn't already been said before me. This game is one of the greatest RPG's I've played so far! If you like your free roaming RPG's you've already had this (if you haven't that's something you should remedy immediately!). If you like first person shooters you should definitely get this. There's a wide range of weapons and a brilliant combat system. If you like strategical game play, you'll love the VATS system. If you like involving story lines and interesting plot lines, again, get it.

If you like sports games... there's little here for you really. Everyone else however!

Rated - 4 starsAmazing, lots to do, and many ways to do it!

neewhom from Manchester , 25/07/2009

Well the first impression of the game overall i get is its so much similar to obvlivion, except further in the future than oblivion is set, therefor you'll find guns are the norm weapon.

My only criticism is the autosave happens everytime you zone in or out of a house, town, anything, which means if you commit a crime and the whole town goes raging mad at you, and you cant exit the town before dying, it means you better hope you saved the game recently! because otherwise your gonna have to go a long way back. I learn the hard way and after making the mistake the game become alot more fun, just keep saving the game often and you'll be fine. Also, if you do go on a mad rampage, make sure to 'Wait' for an hour before entering the town again so you don't get slaughtered.

Other than that a fabulous game!

**Contains spoiler at end**

At this point in time, the game has a rating of 78%. Thats 78% of utter crap. The other 22% were people who died of boredom playing this game

I've played many different genres of game for both Xbox and PS and so far find this one of the most painfull games to play. After the initial boredom of around 20 mins listening to crappy cut scenes, I manage to 'enjoy' my 10th birthday. Some prissy kid takes the píss that I wasn't invited to his. I don't understand how that turns to shock when 6 years later I smash his face in with a baseball bat instead of helping his mother, then after she's dead, I steal her clothes and continue to beat her about the head with the bat too.

I managed about a further 10 minutes of the game where I was 'wanted dead' by all the guards and some old guy wanted me dead cause my dad ran away?!?!?! So after I use ONLY the baseball bat to kill about 5 guards AND the overseer guy (or what ever his name was) I question the point of playing a game where armed soldiers cant harm a 16yr old kid with a bat. 3 minutes later I was running round carrying EVERYTHING I'd managed to walk past, which would have probably consumed 90% of space in the cargo hold of a Boeing 747 and even this didnt hinder my agility (which I didnt even increase after that pointless test). Terrible game, terrible plot and a total waste of time. I'd rather play frogger on the Acorn Electron.

Even if you don't like the genre, even if your put off by the deserted look of the game in some screenshots, I advise you, buy this game now.

The graphics are outstanding.

The gameplay will keep you hooked for hours on end, with the sleek VATs targeting system and collective nature of the game.

The longevity is huge, this game will last you for easily more than 50 hours if you do all of the side quests and achievements.

Just buy this game now and be amazed by it's quality.

Well played Bethesda, well played.

Since i've recieved this game i haven't been able to put the controller down! This is a very fun game to play, it has deprived me of call of duty for the time being!

The story is brilliant, with a huge range of things to do. The main story line can be short so it is advised to do the side quests (which are achievements also.) lets put it this way i have 100% completed the game and im still playing it!

It does take a while to get into at the start, since you are so low on money guns and ammo ect. But that soon dies out.

--------WARNING SPOILER MAY BE PRESENT AHEAD--------

With the game having over 4 DLC already with another one on its way this game is deffinatly worth getting! Hours of fun and overal 5 STAR game in my books. And for the achievements its a thumbs up!

This game is outstanding. After playing Oblivion i had a lot of respect for Bethesda and playing this game just increased that. There is just way too many reasons for me to list here so im just gonna go ahead and recommend you buy this. If your unsure check out some trailers, check out some gameplay videos on youtube. All i can say this game deserves to be bought. Its far too good to rent. Also another bonus is if you have XBL you can download the DLC Bethesda are releasing. Currently there are 4 pieces of DLC each for 800 microsoft points.

PassiveZero from Newcastle upon Tyne , 21/06/2009

Even through you can feel that fallout 3 has moved across from the pc platform with the large amount of buttons, once you get use to it, the controls flow and it is a game that really draws you in. Unfortunately if you are planning on doing all the side quest i would recommend getting the DLC as i reached the level cap with about 4 side quests left to do. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed games like bio shock.

Another good feature is the addition of karma. Weather you want to go around terrifying the population and catching some slaves, or be a wasteland saint, the main story can be achieved with both. Each state of karma also effects the side stories as well, and who you can have a companion.

All in all 4.5 stars just because of the level cap.

And for all you people searching for good gamer score, this is a good game for it as all bar the Bobble head collections and get just by playing the game.

Beto from Hull , 13/06/2009

Bethseda just seem to hit the nail on the head every time. If you're a RPG fan then other than Oblivion you won't find a better game. Fallout 3 delivers in every area. Massive, open gaming area with masses of side quests, hidden areas and cools things to see and do? Check. Main story line that you actually want to complete, and not just for the achievements? Check. NPC's with great AI that can be funny, evil, sexy, eccentric or just plain weird? Check. Weapons, armour and items that are consistent with the game setting but are varied and cool enough to be fun? Check. So many different choices in the game that replayability becomes a must rather than an option? Check.

SPOILER - How many games can you think of that lets you detonate a thermonuclear device and watch from a penthouse suite balcony? Cool.

Cookie179 from Oldham , 10/06/2009

I enjoyed playing the game and i thought the storyline was interesting if a little tedious at times. The concept of the game is brilliant and if you're the exploring type you'll enjoy spending hours exploring the wastelands and various camps dotted around. However, when i came to the end of the story and completed the game, the credits roll and eventually take you to the main menu screen with the only option to load your game or start a fresh. This was a bit annoying as i wanted to just carry on playing and exploring from my last game but couldn't without it loading me back into just before the ending again. Overall, a good game and definitely worth the rent, if only for a few days.

Rated - 3 starsIf you can find any ammo you daren't use it!

MightyPaul from Petersfield , 08/06/2009

I bought this game based purely on how good Oblivion was and was expecting much of the same. The game itself is actually really good, the graphics, the story, the attention to detail, the V.A.T.S system and Liam Neeson's vioce..... all brilliant.

However the only annoying thing was so annoying that it made me eventually stop playing.

Essentially the combat system is really bad.

While playing the game i would frequently be attacked by more than 5 enemies and would only be able to take down 1 or 2 because it can take up to 20 - 30 rounds of extremely rare ammunition to kill 1 enemy. This leaves you running around UNARMED trying to fight people who are much better shots than you with nothing but a baseball bat, this coupled with the fact that they never seem to run out of ammo and can start shooting at you often before you even see tham just got really annoying.

Probably gets better as you progress but after a good few hours I lost patience.

As i emerged from the vault into the Wasteland, i thought I was just going to be playing another, mediocre game. After reading its review (10/10) I just thought i'd try it out, not expecting anything special, but something good.

What i got was the best game i have ever played.

After people i know had told me that it was a too confusing game, i was expecting about 30 minutes+ to learn the controls and story. In about 10 after starting the controls were learnt and the story had its claws sunk deep into me.

I was the Lone Wanderer. I have the pip-boy in my hand to help me. I had the power to enter V.A.T.S. mode and to nail a Super-Mutant Behemoth.

The amount of space. The world is huge, not as big as oblivions, but still it probably will take longer to explore. There is so many different ways to approach the game. Will you blow up Megaton? Will you save it? Will you report the one who wants you to blow it up to the town sherrif?

Then there is the perks. Perks are brilliant. Sure, the name is copied from CoD 4, but they are used in a totally different way. Will your character be a big guy, with big guns? Will he be a ninja? Will he be a sniper? You decide.

I could talk about this game for hours, but this is only a short reveiw, so ill leave it at that.

A MUST BUY!

simply put the freedom and quests available are absolutely amazing...not usually a fan of the RPG genre but this one was just so well put together that its difficult to not like it.

I found that the only problem was how pointlessly quick certain weapons get damaged, however such a minor complaint that i cant think of anything bad to say apart from that.

Right down to a tee, this game is amazing, the use of radio for example, with some awesome songs on too.

well done fallout.

Whether you are an RPG fan or not, I suggest everyone at the very least try Fallout 3. It is a work of such depth and detail, with a well-written and compelling story about a child's quest to find his father in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, that it shouldn't be missed. At times it can be almost cathartic, wandering the barren wastes and enjoying the wonderful scenery unfold, while at others it can be heart-pumping and gripping, as you explode another ghoul's face into a dozen gory pieces or watch a super-mutant behemoth collapse and sprawl across an entire courtyard.

On reading all the reviews that claim the game is boring

You leave the vault and are left on your own?!?!? well in real life do you have someone telling you where to go and what to do all the time? NO the whole point of the game is you do what you want to do if you want to massacre a whole town you can! if you want to follow the story you can! if you want to go off and do other things you can! If you dont like a game with lots of options then dont rent it go for COD or something incredibly boring where you jus go from point A to point B and kill everything along the way.

Fallout 3, boy, this game was good:

30 hours of gameplay or maybe more I got out of it, AMAZING, with all the side missions you will never get bored at all, the customization is exellent and the power armour is supercool, I was gutted when it came time to trade in this beast of a game, I had grown so attached to it.

The ghrapics are stunning, not too sure about the playstaion version, and when you think of the size of the map, Bethdasa have sure put a lot of effort into it.

There are one or two little problems that you may run into though:

1) so much bloody walking! if you havent been to a location before, you cannot fast travel to it, which means, if you have no placemarks near it then you could end up just walking for about 15 mins realtime!

2) gun condition, its realistic but automatic weapons are useless far to quickly.

3) there are a lot of loading screens!

and thats it, the game is pretty much perfect, GO BUY IT NOW.

Rated - 5 starsGreatest game ever made

scottishsimon from Scotland , 31/03/2009

Quite simply the best game ever made!

The story is absorbing, the amount of personal freedom and ability to choose your path is staggering, and the graphics are incredible too.

If you like playing FPS games like Halo, Call of Duty etc then aviod this, as running around killing everything that moves wont work.

This was the first RPG I'd played, and I needed to change the way I approach games in order to enjoy this.

For example - in most games, you see an item you can pick up? You pick it up. In this game, you can pick up everything, but do you want to? Some of it is junk, and some of it belongs to other people who might not want you taking it!

The first couple of hours are HARD for new people to RPGs, but stick with it and suddenly you will be smiling from ear to ear as you realise how great this is.

To be honest this game isnt suited to rental, as the intention isnt to blast through and get it finished asap. You could be playing for months and still find new stuff every day.

Ignore the bad reviews for this game - they have been submitted by people who just dont get it.

The game is set in a time after a nuclear explosion, which is 'Fallout' . Very similar to oblivion but with guns, ammo is in very short supply throughout the game and so can be tough, but is an enjoyable game if you are into RPG's, the graphics are impressive (if abit murky) and is a long lasting game. If you finish the full story line you will pick up most of the achievements on the way, recommend a go on it.

This game is very, very ,very good. Its the 1st game I've rented from here at the moment, but I am very pleased with everything.

Fallout3 has the best graphics that I have seen for the 360 (apart from GOW2), but however there is one problem that I seem to have with this game: It seems to freeze at certain parts where I forget to save! I don't know if it is due to the disc being slightly damaged through the post or whether the game is sooo long winded this causes the game to freeze. I hope its to do with the game being long, because I recommed to this game to any 360 owners that haven't tried this game yet.

Hell! I'll even recommend it to PS3 users!

From the very start the amount of options available to the player is incredible. It's a do whatever you like - go where ever you like - say whatever you like type of game. There is no set way for you to do something. Don't like the way that person looked at you? sneak up behind them and drop a live grenade in his pocket. sorted.

The main storyline itself is quite short but the large number of side-quests and exporing opportunities made this a 40+ hour game for me! Graphics are amazing, only downfall are the odd glitches ( i mean odd in both senses!!!) and the targeting system feels a bit clunky.

With multiple endings and definate replay value due to the 100's of ways to complete quests this is a must! get it....now.

Don't listen to anyone who says, 'this is boring, I dont like it' this is seriously one of the best games i have ever played, and i've played a lot. I can see exactly what the negative reviewers are getting at, and i know why they've said it... because the havent PLAYED it! you wouldn't start a film and 5 mins through say ' i dont like it, i'm bored' give it a chance. it is hard and slow to begin with, thats because it hasd a really in depth storyand gaming style this game boasts over 1000 hours of game play so its gonna take a good couple hours to set itself up and get into, more then most. there is just so much to do in this game, it's got 16 square miles to play through! yes it's not the most graphically advanced game out there and it doesnt have the best fighting controls. but it cant have everything, a CD is only so big! just give it a little more time then most before you judge.

Rated - 3 starsSorry guys!

A customer from Droitwich , 13/02/2009

Dang, i know im gonna get grilled for this after seeing how much you guys love this or hope it will be amazing.

But yeh, sorry guys! i really didnt like it, it was all a bit too drawn out for me, which is entirely a personal thing, so this isnt one of those 'nobody buy this game' style review. It will definitely appeal to those of you who liked Mass Effect and Oblivion, but just the amount of time you have to put into it to get anything productive done is insane. It took far too long for it to pick for me, so ive sent it back earlier after about 2 days.

I'm also not into the unrealistic nature of carrying a mass amount of weapons around and being able to pick up a HUGE amount of random items.

The upsides, graphics were fairly good, good looking characters and detailed surroundings, the instant you leave the vault, which is almost like a tutorial area is just this MASSIVE free roam area which is very cool, definitely designed for first person though. The way in which your character moves in third person is disgusting lol.

Personally i'd recommend buying this game. If like me you're on a '1 disc at home at 1 time' package, its a good game to dip in and out of and do some more, then play another game for a bit. You can see right from the start that its a game that needs a lot of time put into it and frankly thats just not what xbox is about for me, PC games like WoW do that for me. (yeh i know what you're thinking!)

What i played was alright, just i didnt think it would be so detailed and ellaborate and i prefer the jump and BOOM action go go go games. So if you're into RPG's i will recommend this. But for all you Call of Duty, fps players out there, i dont think you'll like it.

Rated - 5 starsBethesda strikes back.

A customer from Bury St. Edmunds , 27/12/2008

The four years Bethesda spent creating 'Fallout 3' are quite possibly the most worthwhile and productive hours spent since God himself took his days out to create the universe. Fallout 3 is every bit as good as Bethesda's previous titles, and then some.

Not a regular to the RPG genre, I approached the game with certain skepticism, delibrating over the idea of becoming a 40 something has-been in his room playing World of Warcraft whilst hiding behind the facadé of a young boy to a cute American girl through chatrooms. I initially found the game difficult in terms of the choices I had to make and the abilities I could enhance, but once beaten I found myself becoming more and more involved with the game's versatility and option, realizing just how boring every other linear FPS has become.

Upon beginning Fallout I was instantly drawn into the wasteland's enviroment and surroundings. The story is fantastically original and allows events to be determined by player's discretion and approach. The first being weather to save a small town from it's own armageddon, or to watch from a small tower as it falls to the ground at the expense of a large and quite frankly beautiful, mushroom cloud.

The games VAT system is the first of its kind and allows player's a huge selction when comfronting an enemy in combat. This coupled with the in-game Karma system provides a huge incentive for the player to become consistantly good, or just plain evil.

The story devolps well and concludes in a dramatic finale, but unlike Oblivion, all side quests must be completed previously as 'the end' really is the end. On the subject of these quests, they are extremly enjoyable and innovative, ranging from killing giant ants to finding the head of a lost American statue.

But of course, every game has its downfalls, and Fallout 3 is no exception to this age old rule. Finding the side quests can become endlessly time consuming and the seemingly endless and repetative scenery become frustrating and boring all too soon. The ability to find sufficent ammo or supplies can also become irritating on long quests as without certain 'perks' characters may find it difficults to replenish themselves.

Despite its flaws however, Fallout 3 earns its hype and places itself as quite possibly one of the best 360 titles to date. Its qualites ranging from graphics to longitvity to gameplay, all being of a standard far higher than most other titles on the 360. A good buy for any RPG fans and new players to the genre, as I myself was certainly converted and in true style am now off to play Oblivion whilst google searching the cheapest price for World Of Warcraft.

Not a game for those with a short attention span, but with this game you get what you put in, the environmental graphics and atmosphere are excellent, there are many layers of detail that are unrelated to the main story but really add to the exploration of the area. My only disappointment was the ending to the main story, be aware the is no more adventuring once you finish the main plot, no matter what option you chose. Otherwise a truly brilliant game and my nominee for game of 2008.

Very well put together game and i didn't really scratch the surface in terms of content and what there was to be seen in terms of gameplay.

I found it quite hard and time consuming to keep reloading the game each time i died.

Some dark sections of the game i.e. dimly lit i found very tedious.

All in all it's not the best title for a rental because it's sooo loooong. You'd be better of buying it if you decide you like the game.

I thought that the 'big gun of the game' the mini nuke launcher was availible way too soon in the game and left me thinking: 'well what next and where do i go from here, what do i have to look forward to now ive got this almighty firearm already'!

Rated - 5 starsBioshock+

A customer from Sheffield , 18/12/2008

First of all, I'd like to say this game has surpassed Bioshock as my favourite Xbox360 game. It plays in a similar way, fusing adventure, RPG and action with a sprawling post-apocalyptic wasteland. The game leaves a lot up to the player, to explore, interact and make choices that could affect anything, as what skills you learn or how you behave affect how you approach certain problems which can impact on how a quest, or indeed the game, ends.

I can understand that Fallout may not be for everyone, the real-time fighting aspect isn't up to Valve standards, and you have to want to explore to ge tthe most out of this game. Story-wise, I found it slightly trails off towards the end, as the story catches up with itself and my horde of death-dealing weaponry was more than capable of dealing with anything the game threw at me from about half-way in.

Still, all of this is put to one side when you realise just how much care and attention has gone into this game. You will not play through this game in the same way as anyone else, and each choice you make leads you down new and entertaining paths. A little deviation on the map could yield a settlement, abandoned builfing, a quest or a mob of bloodthirsty Raiders. Again, each of these situations can be dealt with in a variety of ways that cater for most tastes (or levels or morality).

For anyone who enjoyed Bioshock and can get to grips with the combat, this is a no-brainer. For anyone else who is willing to explore an epic game world and be totally sucked in for 50 hours, it is too.

And the soundtrack is awesome.

Rated - 4 starsGreat, but not Awesome.

A customer from Sutton Coldfield , 13/12/2008

I never played any of the other Fallout games. (Sorry Fallout fans)

This game is a great rpg with an interesting setting, a 1940s style advanced post apocalypse.

I can't say anyone else could of thought of that for a game.

It took a bit of getting used to, as almost every peice of junk and random garbage can be picked up, used or sold away, even random cans you find on the floor.

Washington DC (the world you roam) is an incredibly vast area in the game with hundreds of different locations that have their own story.

It is a good game, and the graphics are pretty good too.

Only problem is you cannot do everything in this game without a Guide of some sort... and the 'Bobbleheads' (Bonus Items you have to search for, are a real pain in the arse to find.

Somehow I got the full 1000G.

Don't ask me how.

Rated - 5 starsVATS-tastic!

A customer from maidstone , 09/12/2008

Tell if there is a better o.s.p in any other game than the VATS system? Slowing the game to a standstill and watching in slow-mo as u shoot limbs and heads off mutants and ghouls and raiders and anything else in between NEVER gets boring.

Very gory tho, as eyeballs fly when you make heads explode!

The voice acting is o.k but it would be more believeable if like Mass Effect when u asked a question u actually spoke rather than just silence then an answer back.

The bleached-out graphics and selection of music are top notch and theres a fair share of good laughs to be had listening to Three-Dog on the radio and some of the things other npc's will say to you.

Up there with STALKER as the best radiation soaked games around!

Rated - 0 starsUtterly Pointless

CaptinCondom from Gravesend , 28/04/2009

I saw it had rave reviews and eagerly added as a high rating on my qued list.

Played it through all the early stages in the vault, with great anticipation to what lie ahead. Began to think this is a little boring but they have designed it like a training module I presume. OK, so we escaped the vault and we have found the town etc etc... I gave it probably 5 hours of my life! BUT OH MY GOD! That is what it does USE YOUR LIFE UP!! You wonder round being set silly little missions, and picking up all sorts of tat... I just didn't get it! I found a walkthrough on-line thinking I was missing something. What it told you to do GOD knows how you are meant to work it out for yourself, or should I say what order.

The whole thing I found to be very tedious and painful, and if your a fan of first person shooters or such like, then this could be your idea of hell, because it was mine.

2/10

Played for one hour.... got bored and posted it straight back.

What makes you think we want to play a game where you spend the first few hours growing up as a boy.

Rated - 1 starAre You Kidding....?

JohnnyDrama from Kingston upon Thames , 26/12/2008

This game is terrible. It is so boring I nearly fell asleep playing it !!

The character movement.....PAINFULL. The aiming system....NON EXISTANT. The gameplay...DREADFUL.

Before any of you think I'm just a noob to this type of game, I am 40 & have been playing games like this for years. I gave it a chance, but it was so bad I had to eject & send it back after 3 hours, (I hated every minute). There is nothing I've ever played before that I can compare it too, but I got the impression the makers were aiming for something like 'Bio-shock' (Amazing game)....If they were, they failed miserably.

If you don't believe me, rent it & post the coment, but I have to say, that in my honest opinion, this is the worst game I have EVER played....Fact.
