This game should be left alone in the dark

everything about AITD is superbly executed.... the episodic levels are reminiscent of a series of Buffy/angel or heroes...At the end of each 'episode' you are faced with a cliffhanger and when returning to the game from a save you are greted to 'previously on Alone in the Dark' adding to the unique atmosphere. gameplay mechanics are simple enough to use and it all has that one more go factor.Recommended

Ok, well why all the Hate for Alone in the Dark? This is a VERY good Horror game that does a very good job of immersing you in the game world. People are reviewing this based on the rubbish 360 and PC version. DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE! The PS3 version is, quite simply, amazing. I cannot believe this has gotten so much hate! Rent this now, you wont regret it

I have been a fan of the Alone In The Dark series and this game looked promising. The premise is great, the story is cool, the ideas for gameplay are awesome! But when you sit down and play it......well, lets just say I could not be bothered to complete it.This game could have been great if done right.

When the game arrived on the 360 and PC the game got slated for being broken. The ps3 game was delayed, with promises of it being fixed. They managed to fix some of the problems but the game is still broken which effects the game. The gun and melee combat is still rubbish (the melee combat is improved from the 360 game but its still rubbish when fighting the 'humanz' The best weapon is still the lighter and aerosol. One of the main problems is controls of Edward (they have also been improved) but he still handles badly and you still have to switch from 1st person to 3rd person for certain things. Another problem is the endings are still crap, you spend all the time to get to the end and they are so poor. Also even with the PSN update, the game locks up, 3 times in about 2 days when other better games never crash. Another is some of the effects (mostly explosions) never appear on screen. The game could of been great but poor programming and clueless developers have killed the AitD series. Also its not really Alone in the dark as you are not alone and its not dark as everything is on fire ;)

This game is terrible. It should have never hit the shops. The driving is annoying as you can be going 80mph on a flat road and suddenly hit an invisible barrier, which sends you flying. The story is nonsical and broken. The lack of ammo in later levels is a severe pain, you eventually end up running away just to survive. I can only assume its meant to be a resident evil rip-off, but doesn't even come near the same heights.

Meh, its not good... nor is it bad! I don't think i'd recommend it, yet it was satisfying to get a platinum!

For PS3 owners, this title being released on our preferred format so long after the xbox version was a bit rubbish to begin with, although they did promise to fix the problems the xbox had (glitches, random crashing etc).whilst I never experienced any such problems, the game is still broken. combat is fiddly and poor and the driving sections just did not operate properly ('oh look, there's a big piece of building over the other side of the road miles away, I'll easily miss that. oh no, for some reason I have spun out and will have to start the whole section again! (Damn you ropey collision detection!!!)).on the plus side, the games story was excellent, graphics were decent enough and there are some nice touches with combining items, so if you can get round the dodgy collision dectection in the driving and the lacklusture combat in the on-foot sections, you might have some fun playing and uncovering the truth about Edward Carnby. But I doubt it.....

Although most people just write this game off as a terrible game either for reading reviews from biased and unreliable sites (IGN, GS, GT etc) or just by watching Yahtzee and believing his word of mouth is god just because he can pick apart anything in games and not be called an asshole will be surprised to find out that this game for a brief time is actually fun.Sadly though, all the unique and interesting ideas implanted in this game were executed so badly which constantly made me just go 'Oh, I wished this was in (insert good game)' because you just couldn't stop laughing at some stupid design choices for this game. Also, the ending is awful, there's ridiculous amount of build up, just to have a few moderate puzzles to complete and then a quick drive through Central Park to just a cut scene with no actual end boss or battle.

Turned it off after first episode, put it straight in envelope to send back. Controls let the game down badly. The game might be ok, but I couldnt get to grips with the controls. The switch between first and third person view is silly, the way some things can only be done in one or the other. I rent games im not sure about buying and I wouldnt recommend this to anyone.

I played the old Alone in the Dark games and this one seems a bit of a sell out compared the previous ones. This one is just following a tired formula that's already been explored by resident evil with none of the suspense, intrigue and fun of the previous games,However there are some good points to this game such as great graphics, nice and open combat system with different methods of attack ( for example I ran my car over one of the monsters, got out and shot the petrol tank which exploded taking the monster with it).

I was really looking forward to this game but it failed to live up to any of my expectations. The controls are really dodgy and combined with some really bad camera angles will have you running off edges and into walls on a regular basis. In first person view it is slightly better but most actions will push you back to third person so you have to be constantly switching. The game play itself is pretty simple yet immensely frustrating and takes a long time to get going with the first few sections consisting of running somewhere and pressing a single button to trigger a long cut scene before repeating the process. There seem to be a lot of bugs in the game as well. I have walked through walls, fallen through the floor, seen furniture floating in mid air and had the game freeze totally two or three times. There are numerous other little annoyances to the game as well such as, when carrying any non inventory item you cant jump and if you open a door you drop it. When carrying a chair or similar item you get stuck running up stairs and going through doors and if you raise it ready to attack it blocks the view of whatever you are trying to hit. In order to perform an action (ie press a switch) you have to stand in !exactly! the right place which is a nightmare if you are being and attacked and are trying to pick up a weapon. There are a couple of good moments in this game but they are just that, moments. I gave up on this before the end out of sheer frustrated boredom and will quickly forget it in anticipation of the newest installments of Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
