This game was extremely good in my books but there were flaws. The game puzzle vary from very easy to very difficult. But even with very difficult ones the hints are not usually that helpful. For example one puzzle shows you matches, in the shape of a dog, and you must show what it would look like after the dog was hit by a car (dunno why?). This puzzle may be very easy to some or very difficult to others. Solving the puzzle relies on your perception of the puzzle not maths as some puzzle may seem. Until the end puzzles in the tower, they require a bit more thinking. But overall i would suggest the game to most people as it is addictive and interesting. But i would not suggest someone to rent this game if they are ether not good at puzzles or are not willing to spend anything from 10 seconds to 30 minutes on a puzzle. The graphics are surprisingly good for a DS game and there is a moderately strong storyline so i would rate this game -9/10

This is one fo the best games Ive played in a long while. However it maybe hard for kids as some of the puzzles can be taxing

This is one of the best games I've played for a long time, you really have to think outside of the box with some of the puzzles!! the only downside to it I think is the fact that you cant skip some of the scenes played before you go onto the next chapter, although the quality of graphics in these scenes are AWESOME! While on the subject of graphics... dontcha think nintendo ought to branch out and release mini-films/cartoons on ds cartridges?! Play this game, get happily frustrated over the puzzles you cant complete, jump for joy over the ones you can and plead DESPERATELY for nintendo to bring out another professor layton puzzle game! :D

I presume, because all i've gotten out of my girlfriend when playing was:'I love this game!''This game is so good''i'm really enjoying this!''Make me tea!'She only got badly stuck on one puzzle, and I must admit it had me stumped too, but only because she thought that she had already tried the number the answer needed.

If this game is predominantly aimed at children some of the puzzles are really quite challenging but the overall story and idea of the game is great. Don't let the difficult puzzles put you off, there are ways around it!

very entertaining kept me busy for hours, quite strong story line that comes together at the end eventually, really good graphics slightly frustrating and very addictive. all in all 8/10.

My girls absolutely loved this ( they are 10 and 11) and it really got the rest of the household involved too. I approved because it wasn't a mindless game, it got them thinking and cognitively challenged which is all good in my book. Well worth a go and a fab way to try out games without the expense of purchasing .

I rented this game because it had received good reviews. I was very pleased with it. The puzzles vary in difficulty...most make you use lateral thinking. Also how easy you find a puzzle depends on who you are and how your brain visualises things, so a puzzle that you find really easy, may not be so easy for others. That is the beauty of this game! The story line is very intriguing and I was hooked instantly! If you spend time and don't give up, then you should be able to complete this game in a day or two....I did =PThat is why I would recommend that you rent this game, rather than buy it because once you have solved all the puzzles you can't exactly go back and try them again because you'll remember most of the solutions =DHope you find this helpful,Lv Emz xx

Professor Layton was one of the most addictive puzzle games I have ever played. It ranges from incredibly mind-boggling conundrums to simple, easy puzzles. Can't wait till the next one comes out! If you want to play a game that will train your brain as well as be lots of fun, this is the game for you!One little word of warning, though. It would not be suitable for young children, because if my 50 year old dad finds them impossible, odds are your 8-year-old would, too!

I loved this and so did all my family. Although we completed it in 3 days, the puzzles are so addictive and good that I would consider buying or renting it again. Can't wait for episode 2.

Some of the puzzles in this game were quite hard...even for an adult! I had to have help on more than one occasion but this game really chalenged my way of thinking about different problems.

This is a well put together game and once you get into it you can easily get carried away. The first day that I had it I played for 6 hours straight without even noticing. In terms of game length I've played a total of 10 and a half hours, completed 103/120 puzzles and the main story. I would say I'm a fairly advanced gamer, so it should give most about 10-20 hours of game time which is quite good for a DS game. There is some replayability to the game, but only with the new puzzles that can be downloaded via wifi if you're lucky enough to be able to hook it up.Most of the puzzles in this game are either straight-forward or have a trick to them that once you work out you can't believe you missed. Having said that it purely depends on your own abilities at puzzle solving for how challenging the game will be for you.Overall a solid title that will give you many hours of puzzles to solve, the story isn't particularly strong but then again I found myself focussing more on finding the next puzzle than following the story!

i loved this game!!!! an extremely addictive puzzle game. 1 of the best on the ds to date
jdlover from Chard , 26/03/2009
Excellent game, a story where you need to find clues to get further through the game, completing loads of different puzzles on the way. The puzzles very from easy through to hard, but don't worry you can buy hints from coins that you pick up. If you like solving logic problems this is the game for you!

Brilliant game, very addictive the puzzles are all different types, some are quite easy but some really get you thinking, Story line is easy to understand so this game is good for the novice on DS.............but you do have to like puzzles.

I actually quite enjoyed this game although a few times I got frustrated as I found some of the puzzles hard to understand, so I wouldn't recommend this is bought for a kid - unless they are extremely smart.I found i have alot patience though, if you haven't then don't get this game!
A customer from Livingston , 10/03/2009
I loved it. Good fun although some of the puzzles are a bit repetitive. Spent a weekend doing nothing else but this!
TinaB7 from Eastbourne , 13/02/2009
I really liked this game. It certainly got the little grey cells working overtime. The storyline is a bit unexciting but it is all really about the puzzles you need to complete - some are kinda easy but some I found hard.I hope they bring another new one out soon. It is not much good to replay so I am glad I rented it rather than purchased it - as I think I would remember too many of the answers.Would definitely recommend.

It's not worth renting, it's worth buying.

this game i really did like and i got it for christmas hooray
A customer from Bath , 01/01/2009
This game is perfect for a handheld console such as the DS, providing access to 135 puzzles through a simple storyline. The puzzles themselves require good logic and general puzzle solving skills, with basic maths skills such as simultaneous equations and algebra featuring heavily in some puzzles as well. The puzzles are very original, I only spotted a few that I've heard and solved in the past (and I do alot of puzzles). In some respects the story is unnecessary as it in no way affects the puzzles themselves and it can make it a chore to find the puzzles themselves which are often hidden in the environment, buy once this is complete any friend of yours can view your list of located puzzles (in the bonus menu) and solve them at their own leisure. A good puzzle solver should expect 10+ hours to complete the story and all 135 puzzles, and the less experienced player should have plenty of opportunites through the plentiful hint coins to complete all the puzzles as well.

Very good! Puzzles are really good. Interesting!
A customer from Manchester , 22/12/2008
excellent game that really gets you thinking.some of the puzzles haven't translated too well as the wording can be a little unclear, but if you use the hints these can clear up misunderstandings in the majority of cases. Some of the puzzles are very hard, but you don't need to complete all the puzzles to continue the story line. The best part for me was the ability to solve missed puzzles at granny's shack so you aren't punished for not checking every brick or person in the village as you go along. If you are not a fan of puzzles then I'd avoid, but otherwise it's a great distraction. If possible get the whole family involved to get different perspectives on trickier puzzles.
