Rated - 1 starHalo 3 Beta

Phil Bowen www.o35s.com from www.o35s.com , 26/08/2007

What can I say about this game?

Well, it's all about jumping around a lot, killing rival gang members and er, thats about it. There are some orbs to search and collect but it failed to grasp my attention. Irritating to play with a seemingly childlike style of gameplay.

The only real reason I bought this was for the Halo 3 beta invite which was awesome, thanks Bungie!

That was the reason for it rather large sales figures because the game shops are packed full of 2nd hand copies of this now......

Now that has passed I would leave it be.

My rating 2 out of 10

Rated - 5 starsBest GTA clone ever!!!

Talsar Talsar from Vulcan [Highly rated reviewer] , 22/07/2008

Okay perhaps this game was made by the same guy who left Rockstar North after GTA3 (makers of Grand Thief Auto), and he set up Realtime Studios with some cash from Microsoft.

And perhaps this game looks and feels like playing GTA in the future? .... but who cares!! it is quite simply the best GTA clone i have ever played.

There is just so much to do, leveling up your character, climbing buildings, various achievements, racing in cars, and also roof top racing.

And the biggest bonus of all you CAN CO-OP the entire game, i had not played it, tried it at a friends, bought it the next day and we played the whole game over live.... some of the best nights i have ever had gaming!!!

It is so worth it!!! - gutted there is no crackdown 2 :(

Rated - 5 starsIts good, very good

A customer from Kirkcaldy, Scotland , 03/05/2007

Take my advice, if you play this game put it on hardest setting and between killing bosses go nuts! do something totally random for an hour or two. that way its not short and its great fun. even better if you play co op!

you can work together for a while then suddenly kick your friend in the face knocking him over a small building! have a race, if your friend is beating you, throw a 2 ton truck at him, that should slow em down.

A must try, ive yet to find anyone who fails to smile after an hours play

Rated - 2 starsdisapointing

howie howie from Hertford , 19/12/2007

i found that the gameplay was confusing and i just didnt no what i was doing half the time it has a cartoon style too it which i didnt like persinally to be honest i didnt like the game as soon as i played it but i thought I'd give it a fair trial but after a while it got to much for me and i had to switch it off. this game may appeal to some people if not many people but in my opinion i dont think its worth renting but i guess theres no harm in trying it. poor game wouldnt recommend it : (

EVER rent this game ..if watching paint dry gets too much..maybe youd like to rent this game. Its a poor attempt of copying GTA, If you are a fan of GTA, this game might be for you. Graphics and rendering is of good quality, but i found myself hoping channels 30 minutes later. Gameplay got a bit frustrating.

Rated - 4 starsGreat!

Shinners from Swansea [Highly rated reviewer] , 20/03/2008

This game is fantastic. At the start of the game though you won't have much strength or ability to jump and climb onto the higher buildings but that comes later on in the game.

Well worth the rent if you like the sort of free roam games, jumping from building to building, shooting people and picking up cars throwing them, driving them etc etc.

Well worth a rent and it's great if you've got a mate to play with you over XBox Live

Rated - 4 starsReal great fun just way too short.

A customer from Norfolk, England , 29/04/2007

To be honest i played the demo and thought the game was terrible, but i rented it just to give it a fair trial as demos sometimes don't tell the whole story and it has totally changed my view of the game. I think is a great game with loads of potential and masses of FUN, but to be honest i am flabbergasted that the creators allowed it to go on sale with such a small story, if you just wanted to complete the story you could have it done in no time at all and then all that leaves left in game it orb hunting and and handful of car races and rooftop races. Great fun, Just a real shame.

zand20s from Leicester [Highly rated reviewer] , 08/05/2008

Disappointingly too similar to the Grand Theft Auto series of games. This has all been done before, even the futuristic slant did not compensate for the monotony.

Rated - 4 starsAn excellent but short game

Wayne from Disney Land , 18/03/2007

This game will surprise many people, most will purchase this for the invite to the Halo 3 BETA but they will be pleasently surprised as to how much this game oozes 'fun'. It an excellent fun game with emphasis in online co-op and team work, its only downfall is that it is relatively short but there is something about it that will make you want to keep coming back for more.

Certainly worth a rental :)

Rated - 5 starsAmazing.

A customer from Telford , 28/10/2008

Crackdown is one of the best games out there for the XBOX 360 console.

The graphics are a bit different to other games, but they are really detailed and make you feel like you are an 'Agent.'

Most of the achievements are quite easy to get, but there are two (I think) achievements for playing CO-OP, so get a friend and play the game together.

Seriously try this game out for yourself. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Rated - 4 starsA pretty dam good rental!!

Chris Hoskins from Devon, England [Highly rated reviewer] , 26/09/2008

I never played this game before because cartoony graphics just don't butter my toast, theres something about it that just doesn't appeal to me hence why i haven't played Crackdown until now. On reflection i think i might of been a bit narrow minded to lump this in with the rest of crappy cartoony games as yes this game is cell shaded but its got realistic textures which actually works quite well in the context of the game as you play a sort of comic book super hero type guy and save the city with all your cool abilities. This game is a perfect rental, is really fun to play and can be completed in a few days, there's no reason what so ever to buy this game. The story is a pretty pathetic loosely strung together set of repetitive objectives which involve nothing other then kill a certain amount of gang members then go take out the boss this repeats itself 3 times and then the game is over. I found you've got to go out on your own and do your own thing to enjoy this game as it wont do it for you. I would recommend to anyone whose thinking of renting this to go around and develop your abilities as much as you can between objectives, finding the agility orbs is probably one of the most funnest things to do as you just have to scale the fairly big districts of the city jumping from building to building which is really cool. I didn't get to play the multi player as no one was ever on it but from my understanding the multi player is just like the single player but with an extra person so there's nothing new to be had there, i completed this game in about 4 days it was a really great rental but with no replay value or good multi player i think that's as best a description of it anyone could give. Its a enjoyable if short game experience that has some really fun and original ideas and game play mechanics that will impress and entertain you while it last.

Rated - 4 starsAddictive and entertaining.

A customer from UK, Midlands , 13/11/2007

You might be forgiven for thinking Crackdown is just a cheap rip off of GTA but you'd be wrong. Yes its along the same lines, cars, guns, big city and side missions gallore but its worth a play with superhuman abilities and modified cars. The chance to jump buildings and leap up buildings like spiderman and blow stuff up with some crazy weapons. This is cool boys game, if I had to pick a fault its a little easy and once the missions are done it loses its appeal but worth renting.

Rated - 4 starsCrackdown laying the Smackdown

A customer from Bridgend, Wales , 20/07/2007

When I purchased this game I was a little disappointed that I didn't receive the free Halo 3 Beta that was advertised on the cover but as soon as I popped the game into my 360 I had completely forogotten about the rip off that Amazon had done to me.

This game is just amazing and so easy to get to grips with that even I can play it and I'm not exactly any good at this type of games. Crackdown is definetly worth the price of £39.99

Rated - 4 starsExcellent but too short

Eck82 from Ellon , 11/07/2007

I found crackdown really good to play but like other people i found the storyline far too short. However this makes it ideal for renting as within a week you can rent it complete it then send it back when you get bored or have fully built up your ability points. But all in all its well worth renting.

I first thought this game was utter tripe, then out of boredom started jumping around the place and finally getting my agility up to 2 stars makes the game a much more interesting affair.

Best Xbox 360 game I have ever been on, outstanding replay value, Can't find one fault in it, Underrated. MUST HAVE GAME.

Rated - 4 starsFun but a little shallow...

Squidgemonster from London , 14/05/2009

I rented this title with relatively low expectations of what I'd end up playing. Crackdown is surprisingly good fun, up to a certain point.

The fact that you can really only start enjoying the exploration of the city when you've upgraded your character does lead on fairly mindless 'agility orb' hunts - and the game can be quite frustrating when you can't-quite-jump-high-enough etc.

I played online co-op which did open up this game further, and reminded me of how GTAIV could have benefited from such a mode.

I'd say Crackdown is like GTA but with superhero powers... and without the depth of plot or reward for exploring and experimenting with the environment. There are apparently rumours of a sequel, which I'll be intrigued to find out more about.

Crackdown does have potential if it was developed, but with the likes of Prototype on the horizon it may well have had its day.

Rated - 4 starsCrackdown

Cowey Cowey from swadlincote, Derbyhire , 27/02/2009

At first i though what a rubbish GTA rip off, and for about 10mins i was right.

Graphics not as good, driving not as good, just a bit crappy.

But once you realise that its not GTA and its not trying to be GTA it get quite good. Its not got much ( if any particular ) story line and it doesnt need one, its about powering your agent up in strength, agility, shooting and driving skills by repeatedly killing the badies, e.g run a bad guy over it gives you more driving skills, get into a car that drove really badly when you started the game and watch as the car changes shape, handling etc. to match your current skill level. Brilliant

For mindless pick up and have a laugh gaming this hits the spot, for in depth story line and all round in depth gaming then go GTA.

not something you can play for hours

Rated - 3 starsBought for the Halo 3 Beta...

LycanSoldier from Eastbourne , 02/09/2008

..but turned out to be a great game

the ability to have super strength, agility, accuracy and such is all a very fun concept and makes the player feel very in control of the city, the gameplay is fun and doesn't have to be serious. Butthis game becomes so much better if you download the additional content from Xbox Live Marketplace, adding whole new eleents to the game!

There are basically 3 things to do in this game, complete the story, level up and cause complete chaos for the fun of it. and i'd advise you find a buddy to play it along with you on Live.

This game is good, so give it a rent

Rated - 3 starsno halo

IndieBoy from Norwich , 05/06/2008

I played this game for all of 20minutes before I had enough and put it back in the envelope ready to send back. Its like a uglier childish version of GTA but just a lot lot worse. I wouldnt recommend at all. Stay away! Controls are terrible, gameplay is beyond a joke and the graphics...well I've seen better things drawn by my 2 year old nephew.

Rated - 2 starscouldnt get into

MattyP83 from Stokey Broke On Trent - England [Highly rated reviewer] , 17/02/2008

I just couldnt bring myself to play this game, im well into the grand theft auto games but i think the book should stay with rockstar, other attempt at these games (namely crackdown and saints row) just dont compare. They dont have the flair and originality that rockstar seem to be able to introduce into every new GTA game. Crackdown tried a new path of playing the vigilante instead of a bad guy but i just didnt enjoy playing as a cop as much, more fun causing death and destruction as a bad guy i think (i think i may be playing sodistic games too much???). Good idea but poorly performed i think. Lets just hope i dont end up eating my own words now and GTA4 will b poo!

Rated - 4 starsSlow to get into but great after that

Carlton Dickson from Bedford, England , 02/10/2007

Found it hard to get into at first but once you get powered up and get a hold of the control system this turns out to be a really enjoyable game!

Rated - 5 starsFantastic

Its a great game jumping and shooting and blowing up never gets boring

Rated - 5 starsSurprisingly interesting

IanLov from Dunoon , 14/03/2007

When i saw the videos for this game i was annoyed with MS only giving us the opion for HALO 3 beta through this game but once i started to play this game i was pleasently surprised.

The gameplay is limited but very addictive you will spend hours just jumping from roof to roof just because you can and the achievements are actually quite fun to get as well.

Online campaign is fun especially if your stuck a bit you can get someone to join you who has fully maxed out there stats etc.

Highly recommend this for anyone.

A customer from Plymouth , 14/07/2007

I rented this game thinking it was gonna be pretty good, within about 15 minutes turned it off, its attempting to be GTA set in the future and is just pointless.

The graphics are the only thing good about this game as the gameplay and controls are just not 'next gen'

Rated - 2 starsCartoonish

A customer from Ipswich, England , 14/05/2007

I rented this game by reading other reviews and it seemed pretty good. I am not saying that the game is bad. I was expecting something like GTA. Although it was similar it was not close to GTA. The guns, graphics are too sci-fi which dont appeal to me (only my opinion).

Absence of an FPS view didnot help either. (Atleast I was not able to get one)

I returned the game back in 2 days.
