the only word to describe this WOW! We're in for a real treat guys, Infinity Ward have been developing this for a while now (so much that they left Call of Duty 3 to a different developer, Greyarch, to make extra time), and to put it simply it's going to blow your socks off. The single player looks and plays great and the multiplayer is going to revolutionize online gaming in the biggest way since counterstrike.
A customer from Nottingham , 28/03/2008
well it looks like because we havent had any decent games for a while that this sad excuse for a fps gets hyped up and over rated, dont get me wrong its fun, but seriously if you were a soilder would you want to be able to take cover behind walls and do a couple of double taps from cover well in cod4 you wont be given that optionhowever it is a good game in its own right if you like the other cods you will like this i however always feel like with the other cods im on rails and not given any freedom to go where i want, multiplayer is good but not a patch on halo 3 or rainbow six vegas.roll on rainbow six vegas 2 because it'll blow this out the water.
tav [Highly rated reviewer] , 16/11/2007
Wot can i say apart from WOW omg its fantastic. I was told that rainbow 6 vegas was still better than this em rainbow 6 is nothing to this call of duty 4 is a must buy .The story line is brill a bit short but mutiplayer is out of this world play up to 18 people online go through the ranks from rank 1 to rank 55 all i have left to say on this game is well done infinty ward. NICE ONE ................LET'S DO THIS
A customer from England , 27/11/2007
This game is an must have, graphics rock, multiplayer is amazing(lots of ranks, set tasks to complete) and campaign is awesome too.(some say too short, but I don't agree.)Rent/Buy/Beg your friend for it. Whatever you need to do, get your hands on it!
Owenski from Solihull [Highly rated reviewer] , 08/01/2008
This truly is the new bench mark for 360 games, Gears of War looked great - but this looks real! For example in one level you play a flash back scene where you are taken back to the 80's - I honestly had to look hard to notice this was a game and not video footage that I was watchingThe levels are varied and deatiled and you feel like you are actually in the locations for real. This is easily the best of the COD franchise and i would argue the best war game to date. The story line is the key to the games success, it's not cut scenes that build the story - rather the in game footage is like playing out a movie, sounds cliche - but it's true. It's also a darker and more realistic view of war than we've ever seen before.BUT for all of these good points, the game is just too damn short and that stops it from being an all time classic. I still rate it as 5 stars, only a fool would doubt the quality of this game - but do your self a favour and play this on hard mode to ensure you get any longevity out of it! I was gutted when the game finished - I felt like I'd played half of the best game ever and then had it taken off me.The 360 is an online machine with a huge community, but the single player mode should still be the driving factor in any game. They say a good meal leaves you hungry for more........... with this game I just feel robbed.
howie from Hertford , 19/12/2007
the storyline isnt the most gripping but it does its job. graffics are great couldnt ask for anything better. online gameplay is amazing extremely addictive always fun ranking up isnt to hard. this game gets full marks dont rent it buy it : )
friskydragon from Leeds [Highly rated reviewer] , 09/01/2008
really enjoyed playing this - has al the features you would expect from a modern FPS game.Remember a few years ago playing thos FPS games such as 'Doom' and 'Duke Nukem', when there is a bad guy on the other side of an eggbox door. You pick up a massive gun and aim where you know the guys head is, pull the trigger and......Well nothing happens - apparently back then a thin layer of wood could stop a .45.Not any more. I appreciate that other games have added the feature of realism to scenery and lighting - i have not found one that does it as well as this though. Its the little touches that makes this good game excellent.Just get this game ASAP.

Got this the day it came out and have almost played it every single day since! This has the best replayability i have seen from any game, probably ever...The campaign mode is superb even if it was shorter than i had expected but then you try it on veteran and it takes a bit longer!!!If you havent already paid money for this title, please do it immediately...5/5
Milner from Ulverston [Highly rated reviewer] , 21/04/2008
Bloody good game. One of the best FPS I've ever played! The graphics truly are phenomonal and the music is pure class, truly shows the potental graphics for the XBOX360 and the PS3.GOOD POINTS:The controls are easy to remember and very simple. The CREATE-A-CLASS function add hours of gameplay, if you have XBOX LIVE.Even if you dont have XBOX LIVE this game is still worth playing for it's campiegn which contains a gripping story and class gameplay.BAD POINTS:It's hard to think of a bad point for this game, other than no vehicles in multiplayer which would probably make the game.SUMMARY:Definately worth a try! The campiegn is class and the multiplayer's awesome. A brilliant First Person Shooter!
steelring from Billingham [Highly rated reviewer] , 21/07/2008
best multiplayer game of all time
HaroldMunk from Baldock , 30/12/2008
Really good campaign, which is disappointingly only 1 player as opposed to co-op. Great online with a wide variety of maps, guns, gun upgrades, challenges and downloadable content.
cabbage from UK [Highly rated reviewer] , 27/07/2008
This game is weird. When you first get this game it will totally rock your world and will seam that nothing else will top it ever but dont be fooled. This game has a very boring storyline which I believe to be a waste of time apart from the fact that every achievment in this game is only obtainable through the storyline and therfore makes any online factors pointless like going prestige or obtaining every gun. BUY OR RENTRoss Greaney is rubbish at COD4..
Oak1ey from Stanford-le-Hope [Highly rated reviewer] , 12/04/2008
Call Of Duty took a big step when they decided to deviate from their tried and tested WW2 shooters, but they have done themselves proud with CoD 4. The controls are near perfect for a FPS, and the storyline, and graphics drag you deep into the game. gameplay will keep you happy for hours, a very good single player and the comparrison when it now comes to online multiplayer. After playing you will furthermore ask...'Is it better than Call Of Duty?' When buying a new game.Gameplay 94%Graphics 89%Story 89%Length 96%Controls 98%Overall 94%Oak1eyhttp://www.youtube.com/user/Alhorian

This has got to be the best fps on the xbox 360 without a doubt! The graphics are amazing, the storyline is amazing and the online play is spectacular.A must for any xbox 360 owner!
JonnyG from Enniskillen [Highly rated reviewer] , 03/07/2008
In all my years I have never seen, heard or played a better game ,to me its the best game in history!Thats how good it is. This game is really an online game, thats what makes it great. There so much to do unlock,it really brings you into the game,I have Been Playing strong for about 6 months now,it the best game out there! WORLDS WORST RENT, WORLDS BEST BUY!!!
DannyR from Ely [Highly rated reviewer] , 08/05/2008
There is only one thing to say about COD4 and that is Go Buy It!Its still in my opinion the best 360 game out there. The online game experience is still the easiest to use and there is no shortage of getting a game. For those that were waiting for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to out do COD4 then i'm sure there dissapointed as Vegas 2 does not match up.If you enjoy playing online then invest in this as it'll be the longest played game in your collection.
neevie24 from London [Highly rated reviewer] , 24/03/2008
Single player mode definitely is short but is very gripping. Like the way the game recommends what difficulty you should play at after you complete the assault course (hard achievement to get there). The graphics in the game are extremely good and the style of shooting through thin materials definitely brings a new style to the game, now others are copying this. Multiplayer is great, the levelling up and challenges brings a fresh game play for CALL OF DUTY; prestige mode is a great addition to try.Overall the game is fresh and new theme has come from Infinity Ward cant wait for COD 5.
A customer from Bolton , 22/07/2008
Completely fantastic game. So good I went and bought it!
whoelseisbored from Stoke, England [Highly rated reviewer] , 12/05/2008
This is a very fast paced, action filled game from beginning to end! Cut scenes are among the most epic I have ever seen and the visual effects are stunning! The weapons that are available are all accurate down to the smallest screw and there is a brilliant way of customizing weapons for your own personal style of playing.Occasionally we seem to be bombarded with shoot-em-up titles that all seem to have the same storyline behind the singleplayer. Call of Duty 4 is an exception. The story is actually based around 2 campaigns of troops (American Marines & British SAS). The missions are not repetitive in the slightest and there is still one mission that I keep going back to play because I love it that much!Multiplayer gameplay in this title is on a completely new level to other games. If you liked the maps on Halo 3 or the pace in Unreal Tournament then you will not be disappointed! Infinity Ward has even been kind enough to release a few more maps for us!If I was to pick on some bad point of this game, and its a VERY small bad point, it would have to be that occasionally the multiplayer service seems a bit unstable and only very occasionally disconnects you from a game. However this is usually down to the fact that there are so many people playing this great title!
Marzey88 from Hartlepool [Highly rated reviewer] , 22/03/2008
Great gameplay, easy to use interface and excellent singleplayer campaign this game is a top rated loner game or unbelieveable online multiplayer action. Alot of pros and not that many cons i would recommend this game to anyone
ROBOTRONIX from Norwich , 24/01/2008
I think call of duty 4 is the best pc and xbox360 game ever made so far i have so much fun playing online
bobochimp700 from Washington , 21/01/2008
I was surprised at how short this game was (Just like halo 3), but the graphics and game play are excellent. I havent given it much action online but again it looks the business. Note all the achievement points are single player only no online ones, and a lot of them are if you do it on veteran, which i think is rock hard. If it had been a little longer and some online achievements i would have given it 5 stars.
Kristofer Lee from Much Hadham , 04/12/2007
This game is nothing short of brilliant. Since I got it I have found it hard to put down even for sleep. The single player campaign is a fantastic thrill ride that keeps on throwing plot twists and explosive scenes at you until the very end. No mission has a weak point and you will play all of them at least twice. Sadly its very short but its worth it. You can extend your play by increasing the difficulty but similar to Halo's Legendary mode Veteran is only for those who truly enjoy hours of pain and sufferingThe graphics quality it truly superb and raises the bar for the FPS genre. The sound too cannot be flawed and sounds immense no matter what speakers you are pumping it out from. However the real star of the game is the multiplayer. It is truly un-believable. The game play is truly frantic and the addition of custom classes and perks mean you never know what you are going to be fighting and real add a layer of variety to your overall experience. The ranking system is fantastic too. Never before have I been so intense on trying to rank up in a game since RS Vegas. It makes it feel almost obsessive. If you are stuck between games this Christmas and dont have Xbox Live I would suggest going for a longer single player game and rent this instead but if you have Live seriously consider putting this on your Christmas List.
Matt from Rugeley , 02/05/2008
When will developers realise that not everyone wants to play online? Personally I prefer to get immersed in a good single player campaign. This game has blatantly been developed with online play as the main priority. The single campaign last a pathetic 4-5 hours. You could finish this easily in one good sitting. For someone who has no internet connection and has spent £40 for a 5 hour campaign, this is very por value. It's a shame because the game itself is excellent, and could have been a contender for one of the best FPS's ever. Unfortunately, the experience doesn't last long enough to warrant such an accolade.
jackcook1983 from Sheffield [Highly rated reviewer] , 17/01/2008
For me this is a very good game single player is awesome and the multiplayer is very good wether its better that halo3 is prefferecne. It is much more of an indivitual game in the team battles than halo therefore you rarely get the exitment that winning a close match brings and the matchmaking is not skill based so can find yourself been owned buy people much better than you but the way you unlock weapons and perks as you rank up is good.I prefere halo because of the teamwork but it is a matter of prefference and doesnt take away from this been an awesome game!
remedialpath , 14/11/2007
I addid this to my rental list as i have always been a fan of the previous call of dutys. This Game is Amazing,Although trying at times on the Hardened Level and Impossible on the Veteran Level, the great graphics, interesting storyline and amazing assortment of weapons make this FPS top dog.The Multiplayer for this game gives Halo 3 a run for its money, and although the matching system can make it a bit more challenging, it has a XP system which means the more you play the more you get to play with. All the weapons have upgrades such as red dot sights, silencers and grenade launchers which makes you want to keep playing to see what you will get next. i am at rank 26 (out of 50) and dont think i will stop playing any time soon.A definate Buy game i have already got my copy.Gamertag = Remedialpath and I am in the clan [FLIC]

People say this is the best fps ever but if you ask them the simple question why they normally reply 'just is'.I like call of duty 4 and 5 my self but cant see how there the best after doing veteran dificulty and getting to prestige 3+ on multiplayer. Also people who say this is the 'best' fps normally make fun of games such as rainbow six vegas and halo 3. I don't have much experience with rainbow six but halo 3 was my favorite game for a long long time and after playing both I would say there about the same.So to keep this brief....Single Player - Not that fun and very tedious on veteran.Too shortOnline Multiplayer - Good but not the 'best' highly addictive and sniper is just amazing. keeps you entertained for a little bit with the challenges and prestige. My advice is buy this if you have xbox live but if you dont i would stay away from this.My first review so hope some people who aren't 'hardcore' gamers know what its about from someone who plays a wide varriety of games and not just call of duty. For any one who didn't know fps means - First Person Shooter
A customer from Isle of Lewis , 17/12/2008
Lets keep this short and simple. Its the best of many games ive played with every aspect covered perfectly. This will keep you amused for YEARS so dont rent, buy, even if you dont have any money choose this over dinner.

JIVE from England , 15/04/2008
I bought this game last year having been impressed with COD 3. I must say that COD 4 is even better, better gameplay, scenes, speech etc. One part I loved in particular that I'd never seen before was the ability to destroy vehicles, buildings, roads and groups of soldiers using missiles whilst flying in the helicopter, the thermal imaging views and action is so real. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the length of the game, I completed it in one day (approx 7hrs) and couldn't believe that it was over. Its just as well though because I would have found it hard to put down. So my advice is to rent rather than buy, this will save you money in the end. Whatever you decide just make sure you don't miss out on a fantastic game.

Fantastic game lived up to everything anyone expected from it! Once you put this game in you wont turn your 360 off till the game is over. As well as being vsiually Magnificent the game play is brilliant.Possibly the best game off 2007
A customer from Lancashire , 03/01/2008
I have been playing this game for weeks now, the single player is amazing, good graphics and fun, but xbox live is where its at, i thought halo 3 was the best game online, but i was mistaken, it is simply amazing to play
A customer from Trowbridge , 23/12/2007
brill must with multiplayers
Osiris292 from Abingdon [Highly rated reviewer] , 28/11/2007
It doenst matter what negatives you hear about this game, the fact that single player mode is 'a bit short' is only testament to the fact its so addictively brilliant that people complete it quickly! Try it on a harder difficulty setting! Once complete however there are other modes for single player unlocked. But the icing on the cake for this game is of course the Online Multiplayer Mode, with 55 different ranks to work your way up through as you play against and with other players of varying skill and challenges to overcome during missions to unlock new starting weapons and perks, its just incredible. Best of all in my experience is the team domination mode with 9 soldiers on each team, you will literally be kept on the edge of your seat. Rent it and you'll end up keeping it a long time or at least until you buy your own copy!Rest assured this is the difinitive xbox 360 game and the reason we have xbox live, prepare to emerse youself in the world of modern warfare and tell the Mrs not to wait up!
A customer from Grantham , 22/11/2007
Well the guys over at ifinity Ward have certainly done a nice job. Nice graphics and game play. Multiplayer on xbox live is great too with a wide choice of game types and bonus weapons for ranking up. well worth buying.

martinmurphey from Bury , 03/11/2009
well where can i start. for starters the story is one of the best i have ever seen in any other video game, its deep and compelling and makes you want to play it more and more. the weapons are super realistic and all are deeply satisfying to use. the enemy AI is also very impressive and hardly any glitches. It could be a lot longer but if i was just reviewing the story mode i would give it 4 stars. But now on to the Multiplayer which is definitely the highlight of the game. it is extremely fun and again keeps you playing it for ages. one of the things that kept bringing me back was the levelling up system. you earn points while playing matches and that will add to increase your score and level. it goes up to level 55, and i have prestiged twice now. all in all it is one of the best games you will ever play. a definite buy for any system 5 OUT OF 5

İ had picked up call of duty 5 a month ago, and fell in love with it. İ rented cod 4, thinking that it would never top cod 5... İ was so wrong.İf you havent yet, i reccomend you rent this game.
Optimus from Paisley , 12/08/2009
This for anyone who hasn't played it yet or fancies trying it, you are missing out. I am more a 3rd person shooter myself (gears of war) however after playing this game I quickly seen what all the fuss was about and quickly became addicted. The graphics are awesome freedom of movement is unbelievable but be warned this is a very very fast paced game to play effectively so to play online please play the campaign at least on regular. for people who have played this game no need to comment or specualte further. What a game brilliant!!!
A customer from Northants, England , 12/08/2009
I really love a good solid FPS game - and this remains my favourite on any console - in no small part thanks to the excellent online aspect of the game.Improves on the excellent COD2 (a previous favourite) - I really wish other games studios would take a leaf out of this game's book regarding online play - e.g. Gears of War 2. No other FPS game feels as fluid online and leaves the room open for fast action with quite a bit of choice when it comes to personal choice of tactics.Whether you're a run & gun guy, or a sneaky sniper - COD4 has it all and in maps that are well designed and not too huge (a big failing of many of the COD5 - World at War maps in my humble opinion).Until Modern Warfare 2 comes out this November- COD4 remains the most-played game on my 360, closely followed by 'Rock Band 2'.I only someone could combine the two games into a musical rocking war-game with drumsticks that double as reusable claymores... I'd be sorted ;-)
Shaneyboy95 from Harrow , 31/07/2009
This game is a very addictive one, the single player is oh so short i steamed through it on normal in 3-4 hours. The online is very addictive its getting to the point where its not fun anymore its just a must play.
Stales89JSM from Nottingham , 12/07/2009
This game has never let me down. I've had it for a while but never thought about reviewing it until today! This, and Halo 3, are my 2 favourite games on my 360!Modern Warfare is the most realistic game I have ever played in all my life. The AI movements and reactions are perfect. A gunshot to the chest will make the body jolt in the right direction, and the ragdoll physics make sure that if a body dies on an edge, there is none of that stuff leg thing, but it will flop over the edge.Anyway, I mostly play this game online and it's getting harder and harder the older the game gets as people are getting better and better, but the matchmaking is really fast in comparison to World At War and still gets a huge amount of players online! The main story is very well written and joins 2 teams together to complete the same mission. If you are a true gamer you won;t need this review to influence you to buy this game, you will already know about modern Warfare 2, and this review is probably not helpful but I thought I'd contribute a little to the game review world!
Minty8 from Randalstown, Antrim , 11/07/2009
This is one of the best War Games I have ever played, very epic feeling story and out of all the war games, this is the one with the best mulitiplayer I've ever played
Pope from Chichester , 10/07/2009
Ive played this game along with Halo 3 and rainbow 6 vegas2. both on and offline. i found in halo3 the unrealistic setting and alien features give its oustanding gameplay and thrilling Multiplayer. However RSV2 provides a more realistic approach providing key themes such as Team work and strategy creating some alternative gameplay. How ever i play COD4 and realise it is the most unrealistic-realistic game on the market. The offline campaign has some strange locations such as the first level. wher eyou must escape off a sinking ship only to jump onto a helicopter. I will not go into too much detail as i will bore you. Therefore i played online. Providing your quick and lucky you may find an opponent (without radar i might add until a you acheive a 3kill streak) providing that you dont be killed another lucky player, however this is followed by a bigger flaw 'The last stand' you may shoot while imobilised on the ground allowing you to maybe get a kill if your lucky beofre dieing. If you get shot shot close range with an automatic firearm you willl not suddenly lie die bring out a pistol and shoot!!!. Im sorry but Cod4 is flawed in many area's (not that halo3 and RSV2 arnt) makin this tedious and offensive gameplay not worth your time.
A customer from Uckfield , 07/07/2009

Great game and really good fun. I am not disappointed with this one and will probably rent/buy in the future.Have played through the story mode and it's really good and there were many points were i felt like i was playing something 'new'. Not just another shooter and you will enjoy playing through the tough bits without getting annoyed. With this game you will adapt to the game play and controls quickly, you will also start develop tactics (even if it is throw many flash bangs).i am on the last mission and am looking forward to it, the story so far has been great an i don't expect to be disappointed by the finale.shame i have to send this back - need to use my rentals though :)

I personally think its the best FPS game i have ever played except for CCS-(counterstrike)online play is second to none if your into war then this is the game for you. There is no achievements online but that shouldnt put you off because i have played this game since it came out and i still play it today.Single player is too short but some achievements are very hard like the mile high club but other then a couple of achievements its possible too complete for the above average gamer.Get this Game if your not sure just rent it then you will definately buy it.
HaloLover from Leicester , 07/05/2009
The graphics are just immense and was fun while it lasted. What sucks is there are only around 30 achievments to get and half of those are doing campaign on Veteran! Absolutely no online achievments at all which is probably the most fun doing. Id rather buy the game for the cut scene's as I don't really want to do the campaign again. The game has good length though, not too long, not too short. It doesn't really have many maps and there are limited amounts types of matches to do online. Sorry guys but Veteren to me is just standing behind a freakin wall for ages, or taking cover. I see no fun in that.A very good game but not game of the year in my opinion.Cheers.

Nothing more needs to be said about this game other than this IS the line in the sand. The online play is the best i have ever came across and im eagerly awaitng modern warfare 2 which is released later this year.I have only played a wee bit o world at war and am looking forward to filling the time till c.o.d m.w2 comes out.Let the good times roll!

If you have a full time job or even a part time job then dont rent this or else you'll be ringing in sick as soon as you start playing the multi-player. Best game on the 360 so far. The only flaw is the fact it tells you how long you've been playing it for, this can be somewhat embarassing if you have an other half who doesnt like you playing on your console for stupidly long periods
karenscollie from Bolton , 28/03/2009
Hubby has just completed this ,although this game isnt as long as some other Cods the graphics and gameplay certainly made up for it ...some scenes are amazing and the detail is breath taking definatly the best Call of Duty , even the newest Call of duty 5 doesnt match this ...definatly worth playing
A customer from Gunnislake , 24/03/2009
I have 1000g for this game, it was fun trying it all. A great campaign and online play is awesome. If you want the full 1000g it will take some work, but is fun none the less and will deffinitely improve your online play. It would have been better if there were online achievements though!
Absofsteel from Henley-on-Thames , 15/03/2009
This has almost everything every good game needs... almost... Excellent graphics, game-play, guns feel heavy and powerful, campaign is the perfect length and filled with varied game-play ideas and manic non stop action that feels like a real war-zone (or the best I can imagine it to be) an excellent game. multi-player is kinda fun and you can see your death from the killers perspective after you die which is interesting and shows you your weak points game-play wise.HOWEVER!!!! Where's the CO-OP???!!! This is MADE for co-op game-play. You spend the whole bleeding game with a group of allied marines for heavens sake!!! Halo had split screen co-op in 2001 and Halo 3 that came out at pretty much exactly the same time as this had 4 PLAYER CO-OP over XBOX LIVE!!! It just feels a bit lonely playing through the game by yourself when 1 yr later there's a whole heap of games that almost REQUIRE you to play with buddies to get maximum fun from it - Halo 1, 2 & 3 - Left 4 Dead - Gears of War 1 & 2 - Resi 5 to name off the top of my head. The sequel COD WAW has co-op but it's too late for COD4.For me such an oversight cuts off 1 and a half stars from being an almost perfect game.Killzone 2 is getting critised for no co-op... why is this game praised to death when having exactly the same flaw as Killzone 2.N.B.The game is full of infinitely re-spawning enemies in certain sections too which is REALLY annoying.
majnu from Manchester , 11/03/2009
Simply Amazing. Great number of players online too!
Mackiesmac from Derby , 06/03/2009
The single player is truly brilliant, with levels such as the sniper mission giving an unrivaled level of atmospheric fun packed action. Ive never been to the post nuclear ruins of chernobyl, but im pretty sure if would look like the beautifully rendered scenes from the sniper missions.but by far it is the hugely successful multiplayer that sets it apart from other generic shooters, although it is not without its problems. I found it difficult to put it down for days, with the number of challenges and levels available you can hopefully understand why.I can with full confidence say that you will enjoy this game, and personally believe that it is a must buy game for all PS3 and Xbox 360 owners
Adam859 from Northampton , 01/03/2009
Wel for me this has got to be one of the best online multiplayer games i have ever played, Its main story though is a bit short, But great for what it is, This is 10x better of a game than Call of Duty:World At War (this game gets repetative) If you have a choice buy/rent this, You wont regret it!
diggles from Hull , 26/02/2009
This was a great game to play, I don't usually like war games but this was great. The story was good and the control was good. Where this game was brilliant was online. The online gameplay was fantastic, loads of different types of games and quite a challenge.
A customer from Coventry , 09/02/2009
I WOULD RECCOMEND THIS GAME TO EVERY CALL OF DUTY FAN
Jaykay1980 from Gloucester , 06/02/2009
Wicked game, better than COD world at war, but how many more first person shooters do we need?
A customer from Grantham, England , 28/01/2009
I LOVE THE WHOLE CALL OF DUTY SERIES, BUT THIS IS THE BEST TO DATE, NOT BECAUSE IT IS MODERN WARFARE, WITH FANCY GUNS, BUT BECAUSE OF THE WHOLE ATMOSPHERE AROUND THE GAME, GRAPHICS, AND STORYLINE GOOD, CHARACTERS ARE SO LIFE LIKE, AND THE MISSIONS ARE REALLY GOOD AND WELL THOUGHT OUT. A MUST FOR ALL HARDCORE FPS FANS, ESPECIALLY FOR ITS ONLINE MODE, EXCELLENT.
A customer from Bristol , 26/01/2009
Quite simply superb - every aspect is brilliant - fast, fluid gameplay, good AI, excellent graphics, immersion, tension, tons of new ideas, surprises, suspense - it has it all!! The single player is completely engaging and thoroughly entertaining from start to finish, and the online multiplayer keeps you coming back for more with various weapon upgrades and perks/abilities to unlock. Team play over Xbox LIVE is incredable!I'm giving this 5 stars as it's a fantastic benchmark for developers despite getting old now. I recently played COD5 and all of the best aspects were taken from this predecessor. If you like FPS games then you MUST have this in your collection.
RugbyPete from Rugby , 24/01/2009
Real fun, just put it on hard or you will be hooked, and complete it in a few days, online is fun although a little unrewarding as the kills are often, and many now having had it for a year have better guns than you!It IS a good game though
A customer from The Moon , 16/01/2009
As far as Xbox 360 First Person Shooters go, I'm sure this is one of the best. However, I'm a PC gamer at heart and this is bland in comparison. If you don't have a PC then get this, if you do have a PC then get Battlefield 2142
A customer from Southampton , 16/01/2009
COD 4 is defiantly one of my favourite games... I'm a great fan of first person shooters. Especially modern and futuristic... Big fan of the halo series, Gears of war 2 etc and thought COD 4 was excellent with the realism, game play and amazing graphics, especially demonstrated in the sniper level with the lighting/shadows etc, amazing!I would defiantly recommend this to everyone!PS. I prefer this to 'World at war', the graphics and game play are slightly better and I much prefer the modern warfare and weapons to the World War 2 style.
A customer from St. Albans , 13/01/2009
this game is brilliant as long as you have online. it comes as a good break from ww2 shooters. i had this game before getting xbox live, it had quite a short story mode, and wasnt to challenging., but xbox live is very good, with create a class and the ability to unlock more attachments and even new camo. it is very good and a must have for a gamer.
A customer from Dereham , 13/01/2009

A customer from Tyldesley , 22/12/2008
Firstly I have to get this off my chest, to the two so called reviews that gave CoD 4 1 and 2 stars, honestly... should have their Xbox 360's removed from them and they should be destroyed in the face with an Uzi.Any fan of Fps's will love this game, I used to be an avid Halo player staying on way past bedtime to try and level up but in the end grew so frustrated with the host advantage nonsense and lag when Vs Americans, oh and the cheating scum that seemed to congregate after 9pm. So I made the consious decision to remove it from my collection. But I was left with a dilema... whats next?? I had heard that a new CoD was being released but I was afraid being a total CoD virgin, but having read a lot of positive hype I decided to take the plunge and bought it on release and let me tell you 13 months later I still play this game every night. It has all areas of a FPS covered, Ease of use , stunning visuals, Excellent weapon manipulation, Great (Although a little short) Campaign mode which had me gripped from start to finish, I mean there is always a level or section of a game where you are thinking 'Come on I must have nearly done this'. NOT ON THIS ONE!!I think this game really comes into it's own when you hit the Xbox live button. The maps are great, the gametypes are great, The weapon combo's are great and for some reason the banter is a lot more friendly than I seem to remember on on anyother live game. You can trust that this game is everything you want it to be and you will have hours of fun trying to 'Red Tiger' all of you weapons and unlock the coveted 'Golden Guns', whilst climbing the ladder in the world leaderboards.Infinity Ward should really be proud of the acheivements they have made in creating a true multiplayer rival to the Halo series.AMAZING!!
A customer from Northampton , 17/12/2008
PURE AMAZING ... I THINK EVERYONE NEEDS TO PLAY THIS GAME ONE OF THE BEST SHOOTERS I PLAYED ON X360

A customer from Newcastle , 13/12/2008
The best game i have ever played if you havn't played this yet what are you doing ????
A customer from Camborne , 30/11/2008
I would caution against listening to anyone deriding or underrating this game. Having played Halo 3 and Bioshock amongst others I would have to say on balance this is the best FPS I have played. My one criticism of the game is that its slightly on the short side but In terms of the excellent design and gameplay its up there with Half life 2.The game is an incredibly thrilling adult ride through playing through the eyes of an SAS operative and also an American Marine. The narrative is excellent, has a couple of surprises and mixes some really memorable moments, one of which is controlling a plane using heat vision to track targets on the ground. It looks gorgeous, the enemy AI is high and the game is very challenging - the weapons are also a range of excellent options and all have an excellent feel. The multiplayer is also good but I would say if you were looking for a slightly superior multiplayer experience I would point yoou towards Battlefield Bad Company. This is most definitley a game that must be played for anyone with a vague interest in first person shooters - its easy to see from the presentation and gameply why call of duty 4 scooped so many awards. You will want to play it again and again and the campaign is so well devised you'll want to play through more than once.
A customer from Rochester , 09/11/2008
Brilliant game, excellent graphics, good game play and levels. down side, completed it in 3 hrs. But great online play. The actual game should have been much longer.
A customer from London , 19/10/2008
buy it for the multiplayer as this game delivers ten times more than rsv2, and i bought rsv2 before cod4 cos i thought it would be better. Trust me, this game blows every other shooter on the market out the water!
A customer from Swindon , 16/10/2008
As a single player game it seems a bit short and the stoyyline is disjointed and very unoriginal just like a straight to video movie. However the graphices and action are great. When you're fighting through a level you just want it to keep going.Overall not quite a five, but not far off.
Haggis78 from Edinburgh , 11/10/2008
Absolute braw game,
mdalke from Colne , 06/10/2008
If you want action, playability, and just a kill fest by this game. Reading other reviews saying rainbow six vegas was better and halo 3 was better i picked up this game not expecting but was i surprised. This is not only better than those two titles but it is a contender for the gears of wars and half lifes. Excellent game.
A customer from Oxfordshire , 11/09/2008
As good as my friends said.
CG08 from Luton , 31/08/2008
Really enjoyed this game, perfect crisp graphics, a great campaign mode to it (its short but every mission is fantastic and unique. Shamefully no cover system but the different missions really make up for it, like a really good sniper mission.. I recommend it, once you complete the campaign, the multiplayer is very fun.
mrbill501 from Brighton [Highly rated reviewer] , 15/08/2008
Amazing. The single player game is fantastic. I've never go into a game and story since Metal Gear on the Playstation. Only problem is the lack of co-op play and split screen multiplayer online. If it had this it might've replaced Halo 3's permanent place in my 360.
magoo13 from Grangemouth [Highly rated reviewer] , 09/08/2008
unbelievable online gaming, this is divorce material, totaly addictive, easily the best game ive played online
Benjani from Truro [Highly rated reviewer] , 08/08/2008
That is what a friend of mine termed this game and it is the best way of putting it! I do perhaps have a slightly addictive personality but this game just blew my mind - on-line that is. In fact that is a valid point to make - the normal game is quite good but I would only have played it the once - it was above average but that is all - but on-line!! - that is where it goes down!!! Apart from the number of a@@@holes there are on-line there is an almost endless amount of pleasure to be had - I can't speak highly enough of this game - just try it for yourself. One last point - I was never that keen on FPS's before this - I liked shoot-em ups and beat-em ups the most - but this rocks!!
lizturner from Milton Keynes [Highly rated reviewer] , 29/07/2008

zachawizzle from Neston [Highly rated reviewer] , 28/07/2008
This has to be one of the best games i've ever it might beat gta in my opinion, but say you dont have LIVE....
PrimalBanana from Northampton , 08/07/2008
The single player game starts very well and is made with thought, however i felt the last two maybe even three missions were rushed and to be honest it felt like a different game. The online aspect of this game is fantastic. the map levels are mostly well thought out and although some feel slightly small there's plenty of variety.the weapons classes are decent enough and the perk system is a nice touch. the prestige choice is brilliant and simple for those that choose to use it. all it does is reset your weapons to the basics and gives you a new medal but to some it will become an obsession to go through all 10. gameplay is excelent and although there is no cover system after a few minutes you won't even care. graphics are pretty good too. One of the best shooters out there.
mafia80 from Highbridge , 03/07/2008
Absolutly Fantastic I will be buying it sortly because The Story Mode is Absolutely Breath Taking and unexpected it keeps me always on it I haven't got of it since I've done most of it and need Food. The Online Play is Brilliant you got your different mode like once you start the a game to gain a point once you die you don't respawn to next time theres capture the flags, domination, free for all, Cage Fight which is basically to see which one of your mates is the best. It Keeps my xbox360 on for about 5 hours even when i think im going to finish i keep going it keeps me hooked
DeadlyDisciple from Much Hadham , 27/06/2008
I have always loved shooters and the COD series is one of my fave. This is no different, apart from the modern setting. Don't let that put you off, the game rocks. The graphics, effects and game play are all top notch. The campaign may not be long, but its full of action. This game played on Veteran, is awesome and how its MEANT to be played. But Hardened mode ain't bad. Then theirs the multiplayer, lets some it up with a few words - 'One of the Greatest multiplayer experiences EVER!'This game is so good I have it on both 360 and PS3! Love the Online, great with mates! If you own an Xbox 360 you need this game...Cant wait for COD5.
A customer from Bradford , 17/06/2008
amazing gameplay and graphics, brilliant story mode but the best thing of all is the online play which definetly rocks, i have a 1000g on this game and have unlocked all prestiges, thats alot of time played on this game because thats how good it is, although i have moved onto r6v2 now. If you havn't played cod4 or didn't like it really dont know what shooters are about.
bizzy66 from Keighley [Highly rated reviewer] , 11/06/2008
Simply a great game, one that you will be playing for many, many days and evenings, but comes into its own online. The gameplay - story is very good.I completed this in no more than 15 hours game play time on Hardended level (3rd of 4 levels of difficulty, 1 being the hardest).Graphics are very good as is the sound. No real grumbles to comment on.Generally a excellent game to play on your own.If your online, a must which I think compares with Gears of War.Hope that helps.
DEFJAMGAZ from Teignmouth [Highly rated reviewer] , 10/06/2008
what can i say its pure bliss!!!!! i have never played a game sooooo good... great... amazing, single player is lived short but its just amazing the graphics 9/10 sound 10/10 gameplay 10/10 framerate 10/10 the game has so much action yet its so fluid, multiplayer tho has the most replay value as you advance ranks unlocking weapons and abilitys known as perks you get the chance at level 55 to enter prestige mode where your striped of your rank, weapons and perks but your able to have a new embelem so people know how dedicated you are to the game and to avoid your line of fire a master piece
WAPSTARKDS from Grantham [Highly rated reviewer] , 07/06/2008
It is of no supprise that this game is at the top of everybodys favorates list it features intencly realistic gameplay both on and offline, the multiplayer is the most playable as you will play it to death and beyond. every fight is different every map is created to fully immerse you with upto 16 players if you like fps army style combat this is deffinatly for you there is no better warfare game than this. simple
ash2ka from Sheffield [Highly rated reviewer] , 14/05/2008
I rented this game for a couple of weeks, then i had to go out and buy it, it is brilliantThe best bit about it is the realism of the online mode, take a few shots to the right place and you are dead, it improved my halo 3 online skills because playing that you can suddenly take 43,000* bullets in compaison to CoD4.The story mode is pretty gripping too*not actual figure :P
A customer from Washington , 14/05/2008

jen2000 from Fraserburgh [Highly rated reviewer] , 01/05/2008
i rally dont need to write to much on this one as we all know it's not just hype this game really is brilliant.i rented this game not long ago and loved it,then a week ago i just had to rent it again.some of the best gameplay, graphics,i have seenplays out smoothly, keeps you amazed to the very end.only thing play this on a hard setting as the campaign is short
Splint07 from Portsmouth, England [Highly rated reviewer] , 25/04/2008
Call of Duty 4, brings brilliant gameplay and graphics in this action packed game. Every mission puts you in the game and creates an atmosphere to keep you going and going, single player is short but that short time will be worth the hours you play it. The great gameplay and special effects going on around you will bring you back to playing the game again on harder difficulty and getting that further into the game.
A customer from Melton Mowbray , 23/04/2008
this is a great game with brilliant graphics and fantastic game play. The sniper mission was one of the best i have ever played and i play alot lol. BUT and you knew this was coming i rented the game for 3 days in witch i managed to do 32 hours of work, sleep, eat, drink and the usual and still compleated the entire game. The game is fantastic but in short WE GAMERS NEED MORE OF IT. It needs more levels and a longer and better story line i hope you find this helpful thanks.Watman
MrG from Hadley, Telford [Highly rated reviewer] , 20/04/2008
This the first War-time action first person shooter i've played. I think i have been spoilt, having not tried the earlier versions, i've had the joy of the 360 effects and the game play is stunning! It's very addictive and the online play makes you want to sit down and gun your way into new challenges and adapt your custom lists to give you the best chance of survival. A must play for the system!
ReviewAlot from Enfield, London [Highly rated reviewer] , 14/04/2008
The single-player campaign is over in a flash, but the high quality of that campaign and its terrific multi player options make Call of Duty 4 a fantastic package. It took awhile, but Infinity Ward finally got the message that World War II is played out. With modern times and international affairs becoming more and more, shall we say, interesting in recent years, the 1940s just don't carry as much weight as they used to. Perhaps that's why Call of Duty 4 has a new subtitle, Modern Warfare. By bringing things into a fictionalized story that still seems fairly plausible, the developer has made a much heavier game. But COD 4 is more than just an updated setting. It's also an amazing multi player first-person shooter and a great but brief single-player campaign with the visual chops to make it a standout shooter in an era filled with seemingly dozens of standout shooters.THE GOOD:High-quality story mode packs in a lot of thrilling and unexpected momentsWell-designed multi player progression gives you something to shoot for onlineTerrific audiovisual presentationTHE BAD:Campaign mode is much shorter than those of the average shooterOverall, Call Of Duty 4 is a must have for any 360 owners.

Simple unfun boring grey and very very unoriginalWE WANT ORIGINAL GAMEPLAY NOT ANOTHER SHOOTER THATS 'realistic' so its greatThe graphics are blandthe story is terribleand the multiplay is anoying cos you die in less tan 3 shots
