Rated - 1 starSuper Mario Galaxy

A customer from Reading, England , 08/01/2008

the reviews are very good for this game however the actual game its self does not have an actual story line. this therefor creates a poor game. another problem with this game is you get clips after every stage. this does get rather anoying.

all in all it is really a bad game and i would not recomend it to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A customer from Birmingham , 06/12/2007

This is such an addictive game, all the stages are different from each other and its so fun discovering new galaxies and the're not really hard to do. So this means that the whole family can play, my 7 year old nephew absolutley loves it (such a shame its not two players, me and him have a fight all the time over the wii remote)

Rated - 5 starsAmazing!

PhilWay from Hadleigh [Highly rated reviewer] , 04/01/2008

What can I say! After being disappointed with the tedious and overlong narrative in Paper Mario, this is a true return to form for our favourite plumber!

The control are just so natural after 1/2 hr playing and the gravity engine is just a joy to behold. The graphics are clean and superb and even the soundtrack isn't to annoying for a Mario game!

This just shows what can be achieved with some clever, well thought out programming. You don't need a supercomputer to make fun games, just a little attention to detail. Well done Nintendo!

I can't see a game like this ever being released on PS3/360.

Rated - 5 starsGaming perfection

adeling from Lancing, England [Highly rated reviewer] , 29/12/2007

It's only when you go back to other games that you realise quite how perfect this game is. I had only recently tried Super Mario 64 from the Virtual Console (I didn't have an N64) and was really disappointed so I was put off from trying this instalment.

But rave reviews from friends, all the magazines and websites I could find and even the mainstream media convinced me there had to be something in it.

And there is. The game is imaginative, just the right amount of challenging, innovative, varied and, well... perfect. The Wii remote (Wiimote) is used to just the right extent and is most certainly not a bolted-on gimmick as is sometimes the case in other games and the use of all three dimensions definitely adds, rather than confuses.

Matt195 from Sandy [Highly rated reviewer] , 14/07/2008

i could not wait to play this game, following the hype who wouldnt! But it was rubbish! Perhaps I did not play it for long enough, but I just could not get into it. Instead of the fun and freedom and god knows what else we were told to expect, I just could not find it. Perhaps I have a heart of stone, but this game did nothing for me.

Rated - 3 starsSurprisingly dull

William Brown from Edinburgh [Highly rated reviewer] , 04/08/2008

Starts out fine then just settles into a rut. You repeat ever more difficult examples of the same thing. A game should become more difficult but should also come up with new ideas to keep you interested. After an hour or two of this you realise that you are just doing longer and longer versions of what you started with and the bosses basically just need to be hit harder and more often. Looks good but looks aren't everything. And new lives are so easy to get that you know you could go on forever. Noooooo.

Rated - 4 starsFly me to the moon...

ChrisBarraclough from London [Highly rated reviewer] , 21/05/2008

Every 100 years, an asteroid sweeps across the sky of the Mushroom kingdom, spreading star particles across the far reaches of...okay, who gives two stuffs about the plot. As Simon Pegg would say, 'skip to the end'. The Princess proves that she has some secret fetish for overweight dinosaurs by being 'kidnapped' YET AGAIN by Bowser, and Mario proves that he's still the biggest stalker in the kingdom by going after her. What this means for you is poncing about the usual worlds looking for stars in gameplay quite reminiscent of Super Mario 64.

If you've seen the trailers, you'll know that there are levels spread across miniature asteroids, each with their own localised gravity. However, these are just a few of the levels, and you'll still romp around your typical ice worlds (sliding off cliffs to your doom), sand worlds (slipping into quicksand to your doom), and leather worlds (being whipped by foxy dominatrixes to your doom). Actually, one of those might just be a bizarre dream I had...

So some of the worlds may be familiar, and so are a couple of the different mutations Mario goes through, such as fireball mario, but there are some new ones such as spring mario - yes, mario turns into a spring. Try getting that along a narrow ledge with a huge black hole tearing away at the very fabric of space just below you, and very soon Exhibit A, Wii Remote, will be introduced to Exhibit B, cat's rectum. I'd have rather controlled '5 pints of Strongbow' Mario, it would have been a hell of a lot easier and involved less puking.

Regardless, the Wii controls work well for the majority of actions (just don't shake the remote in rage, or Mario will go spinning off the nearest cliff), and the levels are generally fun, bar some frustrating ones. There are races and other game varieties to mix things up, and it all adds up to hours of gameplay (even if the final levels & boss are a tad easy), with lots more to do once you complete it for the first time. And it doesn't really matter what I say, cos everyone and their cat will play this game anyway...

This is Nintendo back doing what they know best making their own great games, and Super Mario Galaxy is just gaming perfection at it's best. Gamers of all ages can enjoy this game and it's so easy to pick up that it feel so natural. Super Mario is back and if you got a Wii then this title should be in your collection.

Rated - 5 starsMental

TheOrs from Southampton [Highly rated reviewer] , 12/02/2009

Quite honestly, this is the best Mario game I have played since Mario 3 on NES.

You know the story, Bowser kidnaps Princess mustacheioed plumer jumps on things over and over and collects coins and stars until he saves her. Doesn't sound very exiting, but Nintendo have a winning formula here and the gameplay has predominantly been unchanged for over 20 years.

still, it has the best graphics I've seen on any wii game, the inclusion of some crazy level design will bake your head at times. Occasionally, the controls feel a bit skew wiff when the character goes out of sight/upside down, but this is forgivable and doesn't happen very often. My only other criticism of the game is that it's doesn't seem to be that hard and I'm flying through it, although I still ahve to play through some of the later levels.

I wasn't expecting too much from this game after playing the disappointing Paper Mario, but this is a prime example of how platform gaming should be and the fact that I played it for about 10 hours straight on my first sitting, running out a set and a half of batteries on the wii remote is surely testement to this addictive and enjoyable game.

Possibly one of the best platform games of all time and definately one of the best wii games ever made, you can't really go wrong with this, its Mario as it should be.

I was really looking forward to this game but was quite disappointed, it was like watching a cartoon, with many scenes like this you couldn't skip - I gave up on it after half an hour of getting no where on the game.

Rated - 4 starsnice (gasp)

A customer from London , 01/04/2008

never been into platforms in my gaming life (sonic & the secret rings didnt last long in my collection) but was curious to give this classic a try...

For me this is Mario in a new dimension, whilst still retaining references and styling of the classic arcade game. nice little references with the famous green pipe bonus rooms (along with bleep bleep noise) usual enemy characters and not too complicated control method.

will screw up your eyes if you play this without a break tho, the 3d world is an integral part of the game design and can be as annoying as it can be enjoyable, my favourite part of the game is collecting the musical notes in order to replay those classic arcade mario tunes!

Rated - 5 starsA Wonderful Adventure

A customer from East Sussex , 23/10/2009

never thought Nintendo could do it. How could the next Mario game top any other? Wel Super Mario Galaxy has done just that. From the moment you play, you will start to smile. That grin gets bigger and bigger as the game progresses. There seems to be a magic that hooks you and keeps you playing until the early hours. If I am being honest, it will appeal more to Nintendo fanatics that the ordinary gamer, but the game is captivatingly brilliant. The graphics are beautiful, the game is large and the soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard in a game - only being beaten by Smash Bros. Brawl.

Once again, a game more for the dedicated Nintendo gamer, but one that can appeal to all who pick up the controllers. Now, let's look forward to Super Mario Galaxy 2...

Rated - 5 starsOut of this galaxy!

HaydenTW from Stevenage , 23/07/2009

I preordered this game before it's release and received it on the day. I compelted it in 2 days. Being an avid Mario fan, I couldn't pass this game up, even after the not-so-fantastic-yet-still-fun Super Mario Sunshine for the 'cube. Galaxy is just amazing, the full orchestral soundtrack, the vivd and lush visuals, the diverse and different level designs, and a quirky gravity mechanic that's new and innovotive for the Platforming Genre. Mario story's always lack in the story area, but always make up for that in the fantastic gameplay and replay value. I've played through this game many times as both Characters, and enjoyed it everytime. New powerups are a welcome addition to the game, and it's nice to see some of the old-school powerups making a return. Definitely, if you like platformers, consider buying this game, you wont regret it. If this is anything to go by, Mario Galaxy 2 should be a blast.

Any absolute joy to play. Exciting, enticing and very entertaining. A few camera problems but these are minor and are out weighed by the spectacular gameplay and presentation of the game. Deserves the BAFTAs it got, even if it did rob COD4 of one.

Rated - 5 starsInspiring

Joefeesh from Nottingham , 21/06/2009

This game is a real feat of genius. To make a game that wows you with it's scope, beauty and amazing unique design from start to finish is amazing.

It takes a small amount of time to get used to the viewing angles and gravity but after that this game feels amazing to play. The use of gravity is awesome.

Some people are saying the game is too easy but they obviously haven't played through the whole game. Once you get to some the later levels (after the kids ending at around 60 stars - there are over 100 in total) you will see some extremely challenging levels. A couple of them are renowned as some of the hardest in recent years. Yes anyone can pick up and play this game but it's no easy task to get every star + there's the added difficulty of playing through again with slip and slide Luigi.

Great for kids but also a MUST for any real gamer or anyone who can appreciate art design, genius level design, amazingly refined gameplay and charm that never stops.

Loved this game, so addictive and Llike all Mario games fun to play and easy to use. I Was trying to achieve 100% completion I've had since December and I'm at 94%., having a break before re-try. Levels are varied in size and difficulty, get trickyer as you progress, sometimes the camera can get a little in the way. but other than that, this game is brilliant. Recommend to any one

Rated - 2 starsOnly for kids

A customer from Pontypridd , 30/04/2009

This game is great for youngsters but not challenging at all if you play games regularly. Thought this would be like Mario 64 which was brilliant but it's just a very simple game with a hell of a lot of really boring dialogue aimed at pre-schoolers.

Hire it if you have children but otherwise steer clear is my recommendation.

Rated - 5 starsAMAZING!!!!!!!

superscientist from Fairford , 17/04/2009

The only thing to say about this game is that it is super!

The graphics are good for the game but some levels are quite long and hard. The whole power star thing is a real bonus because most people like collectablitty in a game(me included). There are lots of levels giving a variety of settings and characters. A lot of colourful characters from MARIO KART are included such as Toad,Rosalina and Peach.

I highly recommend this to any Mario fan. 5 stars all round!

Rated - 4 starsBrilliant - BUT.........

Roar2 from Keighley , 09/04/2009

You can't help but be hugely impressed with this. Vast and complicated, full of glowing, inventive graphics and situations, and a vast and satisfactory amount of gameplay (I've seen thirty hours mentioned by other reviewers). There are many very dangerous situations that require skill and ingenuity to work your way through, and when you finally do, there's great satisfaction in having done it. BUT.... if you're anything like me, you'll get zapped out several times before you win through to the next stage. No intermediate save-points means you have to repeat around half an hour's play (maybe more) and maybe several times. A good slice of that time is repeating a simple stage where you mainly just wander about collected star bits and coins to get the power/lives you'll need to get through the several planet hops and murderous encounters on the way to the next save point. My 7 year old and 11 year old both became disenchanted after having to start again for the third time, and gave me clear instructions not to waste my money on buying it! However, I stand by my 4-star rating, and would have given it 5 if only it had more save points. Be prepared for lots of frustration - but also lots of fascinating, dazzling knock-you-out imagery that makes it worth the effort.

The game caters excellently for different levels of gameplay - I'm hopeless at most games but I had a lot of fun with this and there wasn't too many bits that I had to get my other half to do.

The controls are brilliant, instinctive and it only takes 10 minutes to pick them up.

Andreousdiscreamchi from Marlborough , 07/09/2008

First of all for the reviews that this game is for kids, rightfully so because let’s face it Mario games are not aimed at adults. And all the current Mario games haven’t had adult content. (Would be good to see a kind of GTA style Mario game though!!!). Mario games are family fun plat-formers and this game dose just that, it’s fun and unique with a level by level play out. Who said that this type of game play needs a hefty storyline? In my opinion Mario games have never had storylines but yet Mario is loved worldwide! Why because he is fun!!! Itsah Mario!!!!!!

ive given it 5 stars because its fun

just rent it and youll see

or just let the kids play it!!! hehe

Selekta from Woking , 12/08/2008

This game was surprisingly entertaining and challenging. It has a classic story line and keeps you involved in the action.

The graphics are great and the game play is simple and easy to pick up. It does get a little disorientating when you are running around a planet upside down and the camera angle can get distracting, but really it just adds to the challenge.

This game would be better if there was an option to allow a friend to play along side as a one player game is slightly unsocial.

I definitely recommend this as a rental.

Rated - 4 starsOverall a good game

clare3987 from Tonbridge , 07/08/2008

My partner and I decided to try out some Wii games before commiting to buying them - and we're definitely going to buy this one!

He's a gamer and I'm not, but I found the controls really easy to get to grips with and learning all the moves. Some things I found trickier to do but all-in-all I had a great time playing it. We both found the gameplay a bit disorientating at first but got used to it and thought it added a great and different dimension to the gaming experience.

Got a bit frustrated at some things, but that was due to my inexperience in gaming - partner loved it, and together we ploughed through quite a few levels in only a few days. Two player option only works if you have 2 remotes though, but we found that we were happy to share each level between us.

Its been a thoroughly enjoyable experience with amazing controls and use of the Wii remotes/nunchucks and overall it has just been incredibly fun! So many times I've just grinned or laughed out loud at the game play!

Also a great nostalgia trip as you bump into all the old characters and hear the old theme tunes in a new modern format.

Just amazing!

This game did not quite meet our expectations following reviews that we read, however we did enjoy ourselves playing it for a little while. There were a lot of similarities between some fo the stages stages. We would perhaps try it again as we did not play it enough to get a big feel for the game. We would recommend it to others, but not rave about it.

Absolutely brilliant game, it even motivated me to leave my first feedback. This game keeps you entertained from the moment you insert the disc into the console. Unlike many Wii games you can start playing straight away(no painstakingly boring and long tutorials) and the colours in the game are vibrant from the initial screen. I would recommend this to any new gamers out there that like me want to just enjoy the game for what it is, and believe me you wont be disappointed.

I was dubious leading up to it's release ( as i prefer 2D mario games like New super mario bros on the DS, over say Mario 64), yet after just 30 mins of playing, I realised that i was playing one of the best developed and fun games since, well never actually. I am only a quarter of the game in, yet i would say, IT IS THE BEST MARIO GAME EVER. I normally at this point would tell you all about the game, but this time i'm not! Your just going to go out and buy it and then you can come back here (when you can pull yourself away from it) and you too can tell everybody how great it is. Enjoy!!

This game is diverse and constantly changing, its full of quirkiness and every level is different. It perfect for kids and adults. Its also great because after a long day at work its relaxing, much more than my flatmates Xbox 360 shooters!
