This game is amazing it has it all the action, the kick ass guns, and i love the fact that you can blow up all most anything, in the entire game!

Rated - 2 starsNot as great as it could have been...

A customer from Chelmsford , 12/09/2008

It's not that this game isn't ok - it is, but I can't help feeling 'ok' isn't enough. I was a huge fan of Just Cause on the PS2, which allowed free roaming on a huge scale, use of vehicles and guns and interaction with the scenery. Mercenaries 2 just doesn't pull it off as well. The graphics are disappointing and lack much by way of detail, and the controls aren't great either. Nevermind - the disappointment of this game got me playing on GTA IV again!

Rated - 4 starsGreat game

WarlordArmstrong from London , 12/09/2008

Ignore the other guys comment he really doesn't know what he talking about the graphics are great i mean looking at Gta Iv and looking at Merceneries Merceneries ate Gta iv for breakfast . It a must played im loving it i think it could do with some more options & the online play a little lame being as you can only do co-op and it hard to get on a match online . But it a great game the explosions are great a mid range of selection of cars I love how you can steal helicopters from the air. A Must played better than Gta iv but it could of been better.

Ps. Ps2 Graphics aren't good but Ps3 Graphics are awesome.

Ps For the record i never said Graphical wise it ate Gta Iv for breakfast i said the fun factor ate GTA for breakfast c'mon GTA IV wasnt a fun game a well graphical game but it wasnt woopydoopydoo im blowing this building up and it not breaking .

Rated - 3 starsOk but no GTA IV

Sammi from Sheffield , 17/09/2008

I can't believe anyone could say that Mercs 2 could eat GTA IV for breakfast with the graphics. GTA IV's graphics were absolutely amazing.

Mercs 2 was definitely an improvement on the 1st but that is to be expected with the transition between a PS2 and a PS3. The overall gameplay was improved but really could have been a lot better. I think it missed a chance...Better luck next time?

Godbomb from Stafford , 27/10/2009

Shallow as a puddle but it is good. Enjoyable lil destructive game. Very repetitive though.

Rated - 2 starsNot bad.....

A customer from Exeter , 08/09/2009

Definitely playable. Graphics are O.K. but could easily be a ps2 game IMO. Not the train wreck I had been told about on other reviews.

I should point out that I'm not a huge fan of open world games such as GTA and the like. Not interested in driving about for ages to get to the next mission etc & Im not that great at driving so the many crashes and deaths I experience whilst attempting this is too frustrating for me to bother with.

Unfortunately for me there is a fair bit of that here as you meet with various factions and gain contracts.

You play as 1 of 3 characters (all with similar storylines). Didnt try the online play or extras. There is plenty to do in the main game - the first few missions are pretty good. Worth a rent if you like GTA and driving around - stealing vehicles, shooting up bad guys. Tanks, helicopters, cars, bikes etc are all up for grabs & you can order in airstrikes to detroy large buildings.

I just didnt find it all that exciting.

I had just been playing Killzone 2 though and that kicks ass!

Rated - 3 starsFun but repetative.

A customer from Manchester , 05/08/2009

When i first started this game, i found it fun and enjoyable because of the destruction and GTA-style killing but, after a few missions, i was suddenly hit with the sense of déjà vu. I found the missions became dull, boring, and very repetative.

On the other hand, this game does allow the player to choose whether or not to complete missions because, you have the option to free roam but, beware, if you enter into an area where you are hated, you will be attacked and could be eventually killed.

Rated - 4 starsGood Blasting Action

ozzy2407 from Reading , 31/07/2009

It may have a few bugs here and there but this game is fun if you enjoy games like GTA and Saints row and you enjoy blowing the crap out of everything then rent this

This is probable going to be my shortest review ever. When I play a game I don’t like I don’t normally write a review for it, but I thought I had to review something for Mercenaries 2. The only thing I acutely liked and thought was good in the game was the vehicle controls. When you drive a car, jeep or whatever (except a motorbike because it sucks) the controls feel good and easy to move. Everything else in the game… sucks. The game-play is just a joke. The animation is poor and the visual effects are of last generation standers. I actually thought I was playing the PS2 version of the game, but it wasn’t. The A.I. system is pathetic. Enemy soldiers don’t care if they die. Enemies get stuck on almost anything. Sometime you’ll find an enemy just standing in one spot doing nothing and they tend to shout out everything there doing, “I’m going for that jeep.” “I’m going to throw a grenade.” “He behind that building I’m going to get him.” Almost as if there shouting everything out for your benefit. Enemies just keep coming for nowhere. One minute you’ll think all the enemies in the area are dead and you’ll start looking for ammo and health and out of nowhere you’ll get shot from somewhere. There are side mission (as well as the main mission of course) to keep you busy, but there not at all satisfying. Poor voice acting making the game hard to tell if the story is meant to be taking seriously or a one big joke. Vehicles don’t lets very long. You’ll find yourself driving along and then out of nowhere your vehicle will blow up from enemy fire sending your body poorly animated up in the air, sometimes without losing any health at all. The sound effects are just wrong. Gunshots sound like someone’s knocking on your door or someone’s repeatedly knocking his/her knuckles on a desk. The music is so annoying that after playing the game for so long, it will get imprinted in your head for a long time, and the good thing is, the music repeats itself. Seriously, I had trouble sleeping at nights because of the music. I’ll admit one thing, the game made me laugh, because of how poor the game was.

Overall Mercenaries 2 sucked. I mean it is playable in some way, but in the end… it’s not satisfying at all.

Rated - 3 starsFun but average

CountMC from London , 07/05/2009

This game is a fun GTA style rip-off at first it seems like it has a lot of potential and could give us even more destruction and mayhem than GTA has. However it quickly becomes monotonous and it becomes apparent that it lack the depth that GTA games bring. The missions are short simple and repetitive. The mechanic for hijacking vehicles although novel at first quickly becomes mundane after you've done it 10 times in 2 minutes. The game does offer a lot of fun and allows to do take over any vehicle you want (choppers included :-)) Overall this is a good game to have fun with and cause some mayhem but its lack of depth and that nagging feeling that it could have been so much more leave you feeling unsatisfied by the experience. Good game to rent, not buy.

mrkennedy mrkennedy from Exeter , 09/04/2009

i didnt think they could make mercenaries any better from the first ps2 version but how wrong was i

this game is brilliant

the sequel to this brilliant title has not only improved pretty much every thing about the first game, but the graphics, gameplay and length of the missions are greatly improved too

there is a much wider selection of wepons and vehicles and its not just all about finding the 'cards' now but huge missions involved in the story keep you occupied while trying to find the 'high value targets'

if you have not played this yet then rent it immediately

if you have played and liked the first game then rent this immediately

if you like games such as grand theft auto IV or metal gear solid 4 then rent this immediately

Rated - 4 starsGreat Sandbox Fun!

kingryu kingryu from Bristol , 10/03/2009

This is a great example of a sandbox game. There are endless challenges and lots of fun to be had.

This shows where GTAIV (in my opinion) failed, it removed the fun and tried to be too gritty and real.

The graphics are quite good and the story is half decent.

But the combat and variety is where the fun comes in. A worthwhile rental or even purchase!

really good game, easy trophies but mediocre story. main game was really good, but the mutiplayer wasnt taken far enough and most players servers wr really laggy and unplayable, get this game for single player, co-op sucks

Rated - 0 starsJust really dont go there

dylman4444 from Norwich , 25/02/2009

Now I'll be honest, I tend not to listen to reviews as I believe that you should play a game despite the reviews as for all you know you may really enjoy it........sometimes not though.

I'd like to start with the good points with this game but, quite frankly, there actually aren't any.

So, the bad points;

-Graphics ( PS2 standard )

-Gameplay ( boring, shoddy, vehicle controls suck )

-Story ( pretty much non-existent, just a few random cutscenes )

-Online ( never actually managed to join a game due to lack of players and servers )

-Sound ( random horror movie music whilst just driving down a road, also guns sound crap)

-Replay value/ longevity ( you won't want to replay it or complete it 100% unless you're a trophy/acheivement whore)

All in all................crap 2/10 ( I'm actually being generous! )

A customer from North Walsham, Norfolk , 16/01/2009

Absolutely amazing game. Loved it. It combines so many bits of some of the best games out there. The car snatching and stunts of GTA for example. The game is full of huge explosions, tactics, cash, more big ass explosions, weapons etc... Honestly its really good. I'm going to buy it.

Rated - 4 starsGood easy trophys and an enjoyable game

A customer from bath , 14/01/2009

If this game didn't have a bunch of trophys I probably wouldn't have rented it. Luckily for me it did. I thourroughly enjoyed the gameplay, with some of the missions being very challengeing. It has a multitude of trophys on the PS3 platform, all of which can be quite easily got within about 25-30 hours of game play to get the platinum. All in all, you could do far worse than rent this

Rated - 4 starsA must own

A customer from Dereham , 13/01/2009

I tried the demo for this game and I enjoyed it so much so the full game should be great...If your not sure try the demo first.

Thanks for reading

A customer from Belfast , 13/01/2009

I feel this may be a love it or hate it game. It is fun to play, but the story is weak and i found myself ignoring the main quests and creating my own fun. Everything in the game is destructible and when you combine this with co-op play this is where the games fun lies. So give it a rent if you fancy creating some fun mayhem with a friend online.

Probably worth a bash tho

In my opinion this game is brilliant for coop play. Didn't played single player though.

Rated - 3 starsPlain Average

A customer from Chipping Norton , 19/11/2008

Theres nothing about this game which excites me, the story line is pretty good and the graphics are solid. But the gameplay smacks of a GTA wannbe.

I would give this game a miss its just a little boring.

Rated - 4 starsMercs 2... a great rent

A customer from Leicester , 05/11/2008

Mercs 2 is special. A rare occurence that baffles the mind. A game that is genuinly fun! Yes the AI sucks but this is more hilarious than frustrating and Yes there are glitches. But who cares. Ill be honest and say that I only got this game for the trophys but it deserves so much more than that.

You feel like a one man army, an all powerful being that can shape the landscape in any way you choose. Front door to heaviy gaurded? Got some C4? go round the back.

This is a game that you shape, you create your own set pieces and memorable events and they become so much more meaningful because of that.

Its big, its dumb but massive fun. If only they had tarted up the textures a bit and added a layer of overall polish.

Rated - 3 starsWorth renting

A customer from Bury , 03/11/2008

Much better than the 1st. Good graphics and gameplay, did not complete as was excited to rent another game, however will be renting again and keeping till completed which just goes to show its worth renting. No gta 4 but people are only comparing them because you can steal vehicles, not similar games in my eyes.

Rated - 1 starOh sweet jesus.

A customer from Rugby , 01/11/2008

This is genuinely, far and away, one of the worst games I've ever played! The characterisation is purely diabolical, the graphics are fairly average, cars handle like they did in the Playstation one game DRIVER. I'm also fairly sure the game engine is last-gen too... why is firing from the hip more accurate than using ironsights?! It makes no sense, I tell you!

I'd easily rate Haze about this, at least it had an original premise and a fairly engrossing storyline with an undercurrent of 'War is bad'. Mercs just.... eugh, it's just awful.

Rated - 3 starsGood for simple pleasures like blowing stuff up

A customer from Norwich , 23/10/2008

It's amazing when it comes to explosions and blowing everything up. But the game doesn't offer much more. It's fun, and the story of revenge is one you follow yourself and empathize with, but again: There is not much to offer other than very pretty and destructive explosions. If you want that and only that, go ahead! If not, I suggest you rent, play the story, blow stuff up and return it.

Rated - 4 starsGood action game.....

A customer from Suffolk , 21/10/2008

First impressions of this game were the graphics are a bit rubbish, and it did not output in 1080p full hd. Thought I'd give it a try anyway and I ended up playing it for over 3 weeks as it was really good fun. The graphics actually grew on me and were pretty good in the end. There was a large range of weapons and vehicles to try and also a big playing area to explore .You can also call in different air strikes using different types of bomb ( including nuclear !!!!) Also the fact that everything in the game could be blown up added to the enjoyment.

It's an unpretentious funny action game and the only reason it did not get 5 stars is that the side missions in the game were a bit similar.

Rated - 3 starsBit of a Let Down, But Still Fun!

TheOrs from Southampton [Highly rated reviewer] , 22/09/2008

I think i kind of expected more from this title than it could deliver, that or I have in fact seen a lot of this kind of thing before and knew far too well what to expect.

It's a decent action title and compared to GTA4 it's very easy to pick up and play. Shoot at people and buildings, get car - drive at people and buildings, get tank - shoot and drive at people and buildings etc, etc... However, because it feels like it lacks the depth and complexity of something like the GTA series, it doesn't feel as rewarding to play.

That's not to say that getting into a chopper and hacking it around the place blowing seven shades out of anything that moves isn't fun, because it is, but I couldn't get into it long term.

Graphically, the game also feels a bit rushed, especially when compared to the awe inspiring graphical display that is Metal Gear Solid 4, and whilst there are some lush environments and some excellent explosions, overall things are definately not as refined or as sharp as they could have been.

In fact that sums the game up as a whole, not as good as it shoud have been and must try harder in the future, should there be a Merc's 3.

reeders from Goole , 19/09/2008

After much anticipation I was very disappointed with this game as it contains an array of bugs. One thing I couldn't do was the grenade launcher training level 1. Had to shoot some concrete posts and fired all my ammo into one and the thing still never went down. The aiming system is all over the place. I fired off a whole magazine into one bloke who just wouldn't die. He fired one shot at me and I was dead. This game would be much better if an update was available for it to get rid of all the bugs.
