Square Enix have in the past made some great RPGs - Final Fantasy being the most popular and well known. This game however is not up to their usual standard. Although at times visually stunning, the quality is inconsistant. You will find yourself admiring the cut scenes however you will be dissapointed when you begin to explore the world because of the lack of detail in the environment. There is also some issues with the camera and the fact that when you enter a new area the console will still be 'drawing' the environment. This however is more of a hardware problem going by the amount of times I've seen this happen with other games.

Soundwise the game is average, the music is nothing to speak of and the voice talents are incosistant. However there are moments during the battles when the characters shout the same thing again and again - pretty annoying after a while.

As far as the storyline goes you are not going to be gripped by it, after seeing the first few opening scenes you can pretty much figure out where the story is heading. You will find the usual cliches about friendship, loyalty and being true to yourself here (rolls eyes).

The gameplay is a turned based menu driven system that is common in JRPGs. They have tried to make a few innovations such as making the position in the battle important as well as the order in which you attack. This makes it seem like you are commanding troops at times. At first its confusing but as you get into the game you eventually get the knack of it. Personally I felt it didn't quite work as well as it should have.

Overall I was dissapointed with the game, it seemed as if the developers got bored with it midway through and rushed to finnish it. Iits not the worse game I played and there are moments when I did have fun with the game, however there wasn't enough to keep me playing till the finnish.   2 out of 2 people found this review helpful
