The Third DESTINATION FINALLY , 25 November 2008
  • Final Destination 3 on DVD (2006)
Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead,  Ryan Merriman,  Texas Battle
    Director: James Wong
    Certificate: 15
Another in the teen slasher style movie genre. This follows straight on from its predecessors in much the same way. Which on the strength of the ideas invoked by them all leaves this likeable.
Once again we left with someone who has seen deaths design & found a way of cheating it. We've had plans and omens, plans and warning signs but to make this interesting we have plans and ??? - well I don't like including spoilers so you'll have to watch to find out.
As with all film of this type you have to expect lots of teenagers getting killed in many gruesome ways - thankfully as with all of the 'Destinations' those ways are not always obvious and quite often new and dare I say entertaining. As wrong as that sounds in a day and age when 'kids just aren't scared as they used to be' you have to be inventive and create a death that makes them go WOW.
Unfortunately for myself this was one to many in the franchise. It had some great moments and twists that weren't expected, especially the ending I mean where did that come from! However the story itself was starting to get old and as a movie enthusiast retellings of stories can get very stale.
As with any film who uses a relatively unknown cast I tip my hat to them and say well done you believe the flick is good enough without needing an overpaid celebrity. The drawback can sometimes be awful acting, this was not to be seen here and all the characters are thoroughly credible. Ok you don't overly attached to them but do you always in this style as anyone is fair game!
The plot is simple enough to follow as is to be expected - avoid death to avoid well...dying!
The locations are well chosen but for most of the deaths they had to be as they were integral to the killings themselves but they are by no means the best you'll ever see.
Finish the trilogy by watching this film if nothing else it will like *FD1&2* have you watching over your shoulder and leave a sense of impending doom.
