I often wonder whether it is us in the West who have it wrong about 'what we eat', why do we differentiate between species as to what is right and what is wrong to eat? Why is the dog any different to the tuna, or the rabbit? why are some of us okay with eating rabbit, and not others? It seams that 'intellegence' is the answer; the more a species is 'self aware', the more 'Human' its characteristics, the harsher we feel about killing and eating it. Part of the problem is that most of us Westerners have no idea about the killing process and are happy to remain nieve; we know it happens, but refuse to think about it. A film like this gains ground due to the simple fact that your witnessing living creatures being slaughtered en-mass...but how is this different to the slaughter house a few miles away? An 'endangered status' should definately place a hold on the harvesting of a species until stocks replenish...but then the dolphin is as abbundant as the tuna, in ALL of our oceans. The truth of the matter is however that there should be no discrimination between the cow, the snake or the dolphin (or other non-endangered whales)... ...but then, how far to we take this, should a Minnow be treated similarly to a Dolphin?...or even an ant!? Where do we draw the lines? Is the problem not that there are too many of us??? I cannot endorse this film for the simple reason that I don't know that I back its ideals. That said, it was enthrawling to watch, horrific, compelling... and those envolved were completely commited to the message. The bottom line (I guess) is that I'm glad I watched it as it made me re-address the questions, even if no answers were forthcoming.
