Ravenous
on DVD
(1999)
Starring: Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle, David Arquette
Director: Antonia Bird
Certificate:
After reading the Radio Times review at the top of the page, I was expecting some horror comedy cum farce, not the case, in fact I'd go so far as to say that reviewer shoots far too wide of the mark. Sure there are whitty moments, robert carlyle plays his role with obvious glee and David Arquette does his wacky weird thing that we've seen him do so many times before but I think the story is the winner. I found myself comparing Ravenous to a Richard Laymon / Dean Koontz pulp horror novel, to those of you who've never read such material, it can be easy explained by saying it was written / directed by someone clearly having fun writing the script and giggling as they write the twists, turns and gore aplenty rather than some of the stuffy all to serious writings of some of the more pretentious horror writers. I really enjoyed the different sections of the film, rather that just revolving around one scenario the film dragged the cannible plot back and forth abit creating ,what i thought was, a fun ride. You'll enjoy Ravenous, its a kooky little oddball but a well made one though i have to say the soundtrack is the most annoying garbage i've heard in a long while, Mr Albarn disappearing completley up his own colon...again ;)
