This film could have been so much better. I open on that line because although there are many good things about this film, the bad parts make the most impact in your thoughts and are the parts that played in my mind well after the film has finished. I disagree with 'SAI81 from Tonbridge' mainly that I thought the quite lengthy scene setting was inch perfect as it got you thinking about what kind of people are in close proximity of Eden Lake and really set the tone for what was to come. Also I found the main characters (Reilly and fassbender) very likable characters that really didn't need to show more dimension than they did due to the nature of the film and the events thereafter. The acting was first class in my opinion from most of the characters (especially Reilly and the leader of the gang she faced) the film was entertaining and showed big promise for atleast the first hour. If you are do not like films that have 'cringe' violence then I think there isn't much point in watching this film. Being a fan of the Saw and Hostel films I liked the (Far less so than Saw or Hostel) shock factor of this film that really managed to get me on edge more so than many horror films have done in the past. The most impressive thing was how they manged to get me to really hate the antagonists (especially the ring leader) in the way a good horror film should. I would have liked to have given this more than 3 stars as it was well acted, directed and the story line was both fairly realistic and had started to be very engrossing for the first hour. The main points that drag this film down are that it seemed to want to drag out the characters trauma in a sadistic way that seemed really to just pad the film into 90 minutes more than anything else. And a series of sadistic coincidenses towards the end left me feeling deflated, slightly depressed and quite wound up like the film 'right at your door'.
