VIKING: Battle For Asgard
on Xbox 360
(2008)
Certificate:
Reading a lot of bad reviews on this game I think people tend to want it to be something it isn't. You aren't going to get a great, deep halo-like storyline from a simple button mash hack and slash. That's pretty much the rule, and exactly how I like it. If I have to stop killing 100s of enemies just to check up and how my main quest is getting along then surely it's under the catagory adventure? Overall the game has decent graphics, considering it wasn't made at the same time as Battlefield 3 you can't expect it to have the same visuals Gameplay was easy to pick up and you just add moves from there on in. The game is worth it just for the mass battles within it, not trying to ruin any content, but the battles are brutal. The only real bad thing about the game is the repetative nature of it. But few hack and slash games manage to achieve original long lasting gameplay. Sadly, Viking is no different. By 75% of the way through you will be wanting the next big carnage-fest, don't worry though, it arrives when needed, much like a Wizard, a battle is never late. To sum up, 3 and a half stars I believe is a fair rating. Takes a bit of time to get going but if you can strive through 20 minutes of small time slashing you will start to real get into the flow of things, if you enjoy a good sword smasher that is.
