Masque of the Red Death is one of a series of films made by low budget B Movie maestro Roger Corman based on the short stories of Edgar Allen Poe. As with most of these films its got fantastic moments and longer stretches of boredom/weirdness (imagine a three page short story stretched to feature film length). MOTRD has a great gothic feel, with decadent cruelty and bizarre dream sequences. For me the whole thing was spoiled though by the silly mask worn by the Red Death at the end which looks like an enormous false moustache. Great fun though - watch as if you were in a drive-in with someone to snog during the boring bits and you won't go far wrong.
