I rented this as a nonchristian trying to get some grasp on what it's all about. I'm not already familiar with this or other translations or the central themes, I'm almost completely new to it. From that basis I found this DVD absolutely terrible. It has the whole bible on there and that can't be a bad thing. The language of the translation is good, and not difficult to follow. However, on each page, which can be turned manually or is automatically progressed when the narration is finished (will get to this in a moment) there is only a couple of verses. This makes sense as you can't read writing that's too small, but to skip it manually will take you years to get through it. So you can rely on the guy reading it. Except you can't! Imagine Darth Vader's voice with the broken speech rhythm of Adam West's Batman, or Captain Kirk. I found it incredibly offputting, and while I admit I didn't persevere for long, I never even made it out of Genesis (that's the first book, for those who were born and raised under a rock ;) ) Honestly, I'm disappointed. Thankfully I have christian friends who have explained some stuff to me already, and I know it's not as boring as this DVD reads it, but for someone going in without any prior knowledge, this DVD makes what is incredibly daunting almost completely unapproachable. Better off just using google.
