I never thought they could pull it off; but it was much better than expected. , 22 May 2008
  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Cry... (2007)
Starring: Harrison Ford,  Shia LaBeouf,  Cate Blanchett
    Director: Steven Spielberg
    Certificate: 12
I have to admit, I am not a hardcore Indy fan. I liked the first three movies, with favourite scenes popping to mind from each (Such as the Begging sequence to Raiders and The Final sequence to Crusade), but I never really fell in love with them. Enter Kingdom of the Crystal skull. I actually did want to see this movie at the Cinema, but having a baby sister, it was an awkward situation. So I said to a friend 'Hey, do you wanna go see Indy 4 at the pictures?' He agreed to. Then I started suddenly feel all hyped about the movie, and I had a craving to watch all 3 films over and over. MY anticipation and expectations rose for this movie, and I thought it would be awesome. I never thought they could do it; But Indy 4 is so much better than expected.
But with it come some definite flaws in the movie, such as the plot, which is muddled slightly. You can tell George lucas has had a hand in it just because the fact that it's part Sci-fi, and there's definitely and over-use of computer generated imagery. But it was immersive, you felt like you were part of the action, and it felt great. To see an Indiana Jones film to its fullest requires one hell of a Surround Sound Cinema System; Which fortunately, the Cinema's do have. Hearing the Indiana jones theme when he does something heroic will never fail to raise a smile and the humour thorought the film will make you giggle like a school girl. The new character Mutt was a nice inclusion, as he's dripping of charisma and character, and a few surprise plot twists involving him will make you think 'Oh my god!'. The acting was superb and Harrison Ford still insists on performing his own stunts even at the ripe old age of 65, But Mac, constantly swapping sides every 5 or so minutes gets confusing and was a pointless addition to the plot, and Sean Connery not reprising his role as Indy's Dad is a shame, as he was one of the fan favourites, as he sort of 'Baby'd' Indy. Overall, Indy's latest outing is alittle jagged, but is far better than my expectations. 4 stars ++   3 out of 3 people found this review helpful
