Puzzle League DS
on DS
Certificate:
Puzzle league, or 'panel de pon' or 'tetris attack' or 'pokemon puzzle league/challenge' as it's previous versions have been called is a puzzle game in which lines of blocks fill the screen from the bottom and move to the top until the screen is full and it's game over. The gameplay has you either using the styus (ds held on its side) or normal controls (dpad or abyx for lefties) to switch blocks in order to line up 3 or more of the same colour and get rid of them. The screen is about 6x14 blocks (6 wide, 14 high) and you can make 'combos' by getting rid of 4+ blocks at once, or by doing 'chains' by causing more blocks to fall after getting rid of some. Puzzle league ds has a very good tutorial mode to show the user basic and advanced gameplay (useful for beginners). There are 3 types of games to play, the first one involves getting the highest score you can in the time limit (usually 2 minutes), the second one involves clearing blocks until you clear all the blocks above a solid line and the final game type is 'garbage' in which doing combos and chains sends garbage blocks to your opponent and the first one to have their screen filled loses. Time attack, line clear and garbage mode are available in 'daily play' in which you play the mode once per day and the game puts your high scores onto a continous line chart, they are also available to play against computers, or just for high scores in time attack type modes. Puzzle league ds is playable wirelesely (single pack download play or multi cart play), which can be a good laugh with friends. The best thing about puzzle league ds is the online play (though the stats are reset weekly). You either use friend codes to play time attack line clear or vs against friends, or play garbage mode against randomly chosen people. The worst thing about puzzle league ds is the learning curve. If you're new to it then you will be beaten online or by 'hard' computers very quickly. In short, it's a simple puzzle game and gets 5/5 for being easy to play, difficult to master, and good variety of modes to play. If you don't like puzzle games then obviously stay away from it.
