    Eli is 12 years old but has been 12 for a very long time. Oskar is also 12 and is suffereing daily humiliation from bullys at school.
    Both children are without any parental support in their difficult lives.

    Eli is a vampire so already a murderer by necessity. Oskar is fast developing an obsession with violent crime to vent his feelings of helpless rage and misery.

    When they find each other and we see their friendship develping it feels like the sun coming out after a long dark night of the soul.

    This is not your usual vampire fare. There are very interesting elements in the storytelling that were intruging enough to make me watch it again with the commentary on. Who is the man ineptly attempting to fetch blood for Eli? Are the drunks that hang around the Chinese resteraunt every night an indication of what Oskar would have become if he didnt manage to assert himself?

    Yes, watch the film, watch the commentary and read the book. Its by John Ajvide Lindqvist.
    If you cant stand subtitles then wait and get the remake. They are making it now. Although I doubt they will find such fine acting talent for the two children as they did here.
