Okay so its not going to win any awards but The Last Legion is definitely fun viewing. If you like historical movies with lots of sword wielding then you will surely like this. I like the formula of TLL - a band of warriors tasked with protecting the last Western Roman Emperor: There’s the dashing hero (Colin Firth), the wise and mysterious sorcerer (Ben Kingsley), an absolutely stunning Byzantine Assassin (Aishwarya Rai - guys, she is super super hot) and the rest of the roman legionaries including the obligatory strong man and a deadly knife expert. A few liberties have been taken with the history but there’s nothing wrong with that (show me a movie that doesn’t distort history in some way) - for example there are no records of Romulus Augustus having been anywhere near Britannia but neither is there any evidence to the contrary. Suggesting that he went on to become the legendary Pendragon is a bit silly but certainly creative! The bad guys are also very colourful - I loved seeing both Odoacer and Vortigern the film. The action is exciting and the fight scenes are very well performed.
