Entourage - Season 1
(2 discs)
on DVD (2004)
Starring: Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon
Certificate:
I’d heard a lot about Entourage and after devouring Californication, I was up for losing myself headlong in another series. I think it’s a important to address a few concerns from ‘A customer from London’, who’s opinions, whilst a little knee-jerk, are not without note. For a long time I was of the mind that indeed, there was no story and certainly episodically there’s no standard beginning/middle/end, the series as a whole employs a more decompressed storytelling style, with the *actual* story flowing out of the season, as we see these people interact with one another, find out the true depths of their relationships and there’s a genuine resolution to the series come the end of episode 8. What shines in the meantime is the acting and the characterization. In particular Vince genuinely does have star quality and Jeremy Piven genuinely lights up the screen each and every time Ari Gold is on screen. Indeed within those early episodes Piven is the actor knocking things out of the ballpark from the get-go and in many ways the reason to keep watching. Please do keep watching, because things do start to click much further down the line. It isn’t a brilliant pilot episode and it does take time to bed in, but for me it got to a point where I’m now eagerly awaiting Season 2. I have to more. Which can only be a good thing.
