  • Robocop Trilogy (3 discs) on DVD (1987)
Starring: Peter Weller,  Nancy Allen,  Ronny Cox
Director: Paul Verhoeven,  Irvin Kershner,  Fred Dekker
    Certificate: 18
I may be bias. This movie had everything I wanted to see in a movie as a teenage kid, still does I suppose. So when I see Robocop through adult eyes I am overcome with a feeling of nostalgia.
As far as Sci-Fi goes it doesn’t get any better than this for me. The story is action packed, the violence is ‘cartoon extreme’ and Robocop is one of the best screen creations in movies.
The overall presentation of the movie has a timeless style that is all its own. The story and action move effortlessly along and are nicely inter-cut with news broadcasts and advertisements which add a refreshing touch of satire and parody to the movie. Everything is overblown and over the top in New Detroit . OCP are corrupt beyond measure, street bad guys are comic book psychotic and the police are apathetic wrecks on the brink of meltdown. The whole city is the epitome of chaos and social breakdown. The characters are all enjoyable and all have some funny tongue and cheek dialogue to deliver. I love this movie. What can I say?
The whole concept of Robocop has always impressed me. I see both 1 & 2 as the same movie. I don’t know what happened with 3. That was just a lazy attempt with some great source material. Robocop deserves to breathe again. To be revived seriously like Christopher Nolen is doing with the Batman franchise. I would love to see some new adventures for the Big Man to get into.   8 out of 8 people found this review helpful
