About me: Been there (been everywhere), done that. Got the T-shirt. Don't wear it any more. I know quality when I see it, whether it's rom-com or all-action.

Just the job - and the job is entertainment. We will not be asked to sit an A-Level paper or write a doctorate thesis on this film . . . so we can just enjoy it for what it is. As rom-coms go, it's as good as anything that came out of Hollywood. The plot - correction, both the plots - are both sound and good, and the dialogue surprisingly witty. If watching for a second time, watch for scenes where sliding doors appear (a nice touch).

If mum served us a lemon meringue for afters, we'd lap it up - but we wouldn't EVER be rude enough to tell her she doesn't deserve a Michelin star. And we'd ask for a second helping, if we still had some room. Well, that's Sliding Doors . . . delicious.

If, fifteen minutes after the film has finished, I am still smiling, I'd say that was as good a tribute as a film could receive. The ending? A spolier coming up? Certainly not, but I promise you it's the best coffee and After Eight mint combination you could ever want. One final word of warning: if your powers of concentration are modest, you will miss a large slice of pure enjoyment. Bon appetit!
