Director: Alfred Hitchcock

An interesting and unusual Hitchcock film, but ultimately unsatisfactory due to the contrived ending. You are kept interested throughout as the film contains some wonderful Hitchcock moments and Fonda is great as the man wrongly accused. This shows what a fine actor he is. Without wanting to give the ending away, the final on-screen text spoils the whole thing and you are left feeling cheated. This is a typical 'Hollywood' ending, and I get the impression that it was added by the studio and not by the director. Pity. BTW, The Radio Times review above is not for this film.
