    INNOCENCE reminded me of a Carl Dreyer movie, or a Balthus painting: unsettling, beautiful, and shot with a quiet, seething menace. There are some wonderful performances from the children, and from Marion Cottilard in particular. But as a parable of puberty or a tale of paradise lost, I felt it was somewhat too coy and restrained in its approach. Thought-provoking, but cool and elegant to a fault.
