I have to say, I was slightly disappointed with this film. Having read the book, I had high hopes for the movie, which was supposed to be amazing, too, but I don't think the film did the book justice. Kathy Bates was great, but her character in the film was nowhere near as scary as Annie was in the book. I think the film missed out a lot of Annie's actions which showed Paul (and the reader) just how crazy she really was, and how much trouble he was in, being imprisoned in her house. The film changed a lot of minor details, which I thought it was completely pointless to change, as well as quite a few major details, which didn't do the plot any favours. For example, the book Paul wrote just before the accident was called 'Fast Cars', but in the film in was untitled - but what's the point in changing that? Also, I think the little sub-plot with the sheriff and his wife was pointless, and there was no such story added in the book. Overall, it is a very good film, and if I hadn't read the book before, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more than I did. But I think that, because the film was based on a great book, there was no reason to change things, and they should have stuck to the plot of the book a lot more than they did. If you enjoyed the film, you should definitely read the book, as it is much better, and much more scary.
