In terms of films I mostly like comedies and documentaries. I don't have much patience with anything else, and regularly despair of the nonsense Hollywood makes such a fuss over. The British film industry with it's over reliance on formulaic comedies is starting to bug me too.
I'm very much more into music than film anyway, though I do also like TV comedy.
You'll notiice that I haven't named a favourite actor or director. I find it hard to admire such people, and am sickened by the way they are fawned over in the media - "oh making your last film must've been SO hard!!!"
I also haven't mentioned a favourite film. Despite my obvious cynicism, picking one is too difficult. I like Anchorman, Dogtown and Z Boys, This Is Spinal Tap, Hot Fuzz, Touching the Void, School of Rock, Zoolander, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Mean Girls and one or two others.
Lovefilm? I don't love film, but I do like the enormous variety of DVDs that Lovefilm can provide.
I put a sign on my guitar that says "This Machine Kills Fascists". It means exactly what it says. , 20 March 2008
Woody Guthrie - This Machine Kills Facists
on DVD
(2005) Starring:Woody Guthrie Certificate:
Very, very informative documentary. In fact, it's probably a bit too informative. Some of the interviewees are the kinds of people who tell you a fact or observation two or even three times, so this makes the film quite long. There are lots of snippets of footage, and extracts from Woody's songs, so it's definitely worthwhile for anyone interested in learning about Woody Guthrie, folk music, or even 20th century American history. I don't understand why some people are complaining about a lack of footage - this is a documentary, not a comprehensive compendium of footage.
