Before I started to write this review I read some of the review's that were critical of this film. I was interested to see what comments people made. Someone wrote that the film was brutal and unpleasant. I'm guessing that this particular person was sitting in their comfortable home with their computer and tv to watch the film on. Well what a shame the film was a bit 'unpleasant' for them.

This film is not a story, the atrocities in Africa happened and there are many more happening today. Blood Diamond should be taken for what it is - a film trying to portray the conflict over diamonds coming out of Africa. Yes it's Hollywood but it has to be otherwise the world wouldn't take notice of the message that they were trying to tell.

I also don't believe that anyone who watches this film, whether they liked it or not, would ever buy a diamond without thinking about it again. For that you can say that this film is brilliant because it actually makes us think about what's outside of our western bubble with all of our creature comforts. The point is the message in the film, not the 'chemistry between the main characters' or the 'unpleasantness'. I recommend watching Blood Diamond as it makes you think.
